South Burnett Pantry - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). Blackbutt-Benarkin Community Christmas Festival
The annual Blackbutt-Benarkin Lions Club community Christmas Festival will be held at the Blackbutt Memorial Hall in Bowman Road, Blackbutt from 8:00am this morning until around 10:00pm tonight. This year's Festival will have two major components - the annual Arts and Crafts Fair that will run in the Hall between 8:00 and 8:00pm - perfect for Christmas gift shopping! - and the evening Food Festival that will run from 6:00pm to 10:00pm in conjunction with a twilight markets and carol singing. Food and drink will be available on site all day, there'll be a $1 per ticket raffle for a big Christmas hamper, and Santa will arrive to delight children around 6:30pm. Everyone is welcome and admission is free.

Kingaroy RSL Bingo

Friday Night At The Shed - Nanango
The Shed in Little Drayton Street, Nanango (just next to the Scott Car Park) will be open from 7:30pm until late tonight for local musicians and anyone else who enjoys music to come along, bring their instruments and jam in a relaxed and informal setting (or just sit on the Shed's lounges, listen in and enjoy the wide variety of talent on offer). Art With Lyn - Nanango

Friday Afternoon Scroungers - Nanango

Blue Light Disco - Murgon
The final Blue Light Disco for 2017 will be held at the South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon from 6:30pm to 8:30pm this evening. This disco is open to children from Year 7 to Year 10 only, and admission is $5. As usual, guests are asked to remember that Blue Light Discos are drug, alcohol, chewing gum and tobacco free and no passouts or early exit will be given without parental permission and/or collection.

Art Exhibition Opening - Wondai
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery on the roundabout at Wondai will be opening their final monthly exhibition for 2017 with a wine and cheese tasting at 6:00pm tonight. This month the gallery will be hosting a very large exhibition from the Childers Visual Arts Group across all three interior galleries, and it will remain on display for both December and January. Children from Wondai State School will be mounting a mini exhibition of their own in Kidz Korner. As usual, tonight's opening will also feature great hot and cold finger foods and punch, along with wine tastings from Clovely Estate, live entertainment and lots of fun socialising. QRRRWN Barambah Branch Meeting
The Barambah branch of the Queensland Rural, Regional and Remote Women's Network will be holding their first Friday of the month meeting today. The branch meets at a different venue each month, starting with smoko at 9:30am before the meeting gets underway at 10:00am. New members and guests are always welcome! Cuppa And Chat Group - Kingaroy
The Cuppa and Chat Group will be holding its weekly meeting at The Biscuit Tin behind St Mary's Church at 15 Albert Street, Kingaroy from 10:00am to around 11:00am this afternoon. Santa Paws - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy RSPCA will be running Santa Paws at Kingaroy Shoppingworld from 2:00pm to 4:00pm this afternoon. Santa Paws allows dog owners to get a photo of their pet with Santa Claus (at prices ranging from $9.99 to $29.99) as a keepsake, while helping a good cause. Proston Men's Shed

Christmas For A Cause - Wondai
The Barambah Branch of the QRRRWN will be holding a "Christmas For A Cause" luncheon at Wondai RSL from 11:00am today. The event is a fundraiser for Sr Christine Downs & West Community Support to thank them for supporting the South Burnett in the 2011 and 2013 floods, and it will feature a two course Christmas lunch with a free glass of wine or juice, live entertainment (a Wearable Art fashion parade), raffles and a guest speaker. Garage/Boot Sale and Auction - Proston
The Proston Mens Shed will be holding a Garage/Boot Sale and Auction at their shed in Railway Park in Rodney Street from 8:00am until 12:00 noon this morning. There'll also be a sausage sizzle, tea, coffee and soft drinks available if you get hungry or thirsty while you look for a bargain. Christmas Dance - Inverlaw
A Christmas Dance will be held at Inverlaw Hall on the Burrandowan Road (roughly 20km from Kingaroy) from 8:00pm until late this evening. Music will be supplied by the Mystique Band and there'll be the usual great supper and novelties, along with a Lucky Door draw and perhaps even a visit from Santa Claus. Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and routinely attract 300 to 400 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Note: Because these are the last Nanango Country Markets before Christmas, today's markets will have a special Christmas theme, including a surprise visit by Santa Claus during the course of the morning. There'll also be lots of stalls selling Christmas gift items.

Maidenwell Wood Chop
The first day of the inaugural two day Maidenwell Wood Chop will be held at the Maidenwell Sports Grounds from 2:00pm this afternoon when the event kicks off with two heats of an open post rip. This will be followed at 6:00pm with an RACQ LifeFlight charity dinner at the Maidenwell Hotel. The Wood Chop is being run by the Maidenwell Community Group as a fundraiser for RACQ Lifeflight and the action will get into full swing tomorrow. Many of Australia's top axemen will be attending (including one-armed wonder Nick Fredriksen) and food and drink will be available in the grounds, along with free overnight camping. Admission is free and everyone is welcome!

Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding their Saturday meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.

Goomeri Christmas Carnival
The Goomeri Lions' popular annual Christmas Carnival will be moving from Dickinson Park to a new location this year: the Breitkreutz Pavilion at the Goomeri Showgrounds off the Burnett Highway south of town. The Carnival will kick off at 4:00pm and will feature live music, a visit by Santa Claus, a bar and BBQ, food stalls, a coffee van, ice creams, sno cones, fairy floss, popcorn, soft drinks and local business stalls. There'll also be a free jumping castle, climbing wall, balloon hunt and pony rides to keep children amused, plus games, competitions and business house bingo for adults. The whole night will be capped off with the BGA Agriservices Giant Fireworks Display after dark. Everyone is welcome and admission is free.

Maidenwell Markets
If you're heading up to the Bunya Mountains today, go via Maidenwell and you can browse the Maidenwell Markets at the Maidenwell Sportsgrounds (just next to the Rural Fire Brigade HQ in the heart of town) between 8:00am and 12:00 noon this morning. These markets offer a range of arts and crafts, local produce, plants, home baking, bric-a-brac, sauces, jams, chutneys, coffee, food and lots more (there's even a jumping castle for children). Stallholder fees are very modest and all proceeds go to the Maidenwell Community Group for the development of the township. Everyone is welcome! More details? Phone Robyn on 0423-032-080.

Nanango Christmas Race Meeting
The Nanango Race Club will be holding their annual Nanango Christmas Race Meeting at the Lee Park Raceway off the D'Aguilar Highway just south of Nanango from 11:00am to around 5:00pm today. Today's races will have a "70s Flares And Big Hair" theme and everyone is encouraged to dress up in their best 1970s hats and/or accessories to be in the running for some great Moffatdale Ridge Fashions Of The Field prizes. The race club's popular Champagne@the Bit Bar will be serving up platters all day if you fancy a bite; a licensed bar and BBQ will be operating under the extended covered area; the race club canteen will be open for sit-down dining; children will be well catered for with face-painting and ice creams plus a visit from Santa Claus; and there'll be plenty of bookmakers and an on-course tote available in the betting ring to take your wagers. A lot of people like to use the Christmas race meeting for festive season parties and you're welcome to picnic on the lawns or even bring your own marquee if you like. This will be a 5 race meeting and buses will be running to the races from Kingaroy's Glendon Street Bus Depot (12:00 noon) and the Nanango RSL at 12:30pm. The first race will leave the barriers around 1:20pm but gates will open at 11:00am so go-getters can get a head start on that all-important socialising. Nanango Community Christmas Carols
Nanango's popular annual Community Christmas Carols will be held at the Nanango State School Auditorium in Burnett Street from 4:30pm to around 7:45pm this evening (carol singing starts around 6:00pm). There'll be community carol singing, candlelight and traditional carols as well as some fun Australian carols, along with amusements for children. Food will be available for purchase, too, if you get peckish. Nanango's Community Carols are always a really great night out for the whole family to celebrate Christmas, and it's completely free. Sunday Poker - Kingaroy

Maidenwell Wood Chop
The second (and final) day of the inaugural two day Maidenwell Wood Chop will be held at the Maidenwell Sports Grounds from 6:00am this morning with breakfast at the Maidenwell Markets (see entry elsewhere on this page). This will be followed by the Post Rip finals at 9:00am, where contestants will vie for glory in the Major Open, Jack and Jill, Consolation and Local categories. After this, attention will turn from post ripping to wood chopping, and competitors will work their way through the heats and finals of four handicap events, as well as the final of a combination championship that will include current and former world and Australian wood chop champions. The Tanduringie State School P&C will be ensuring food and drink are available all day, and there’ll also be jumping castles and face painting to keep children amused. The Wood Chop is being run by the Maidenwell Community Group as a fundraiser for RACQ Lifeflight and free overnight camping is available in the grounds. Kingaroy Senior Citizens Club
The Kingaroy Senior Citizens Club will be holding its monthly meeting from 10:00am to noon this morning at the Senior Citizen Hall located at the corner of Avoca and Kingaroy Streets (opposite SupaIGA). Monday Night Line Dancing - Proston

Danny's Diner - a free community dinner - will be held at the Uniting Church Hall at the corner of Alford and Youngman streets in Kingaroy from 5:30pm to 7:00pm tonight. The dinner is an initiative of the Kingaroy District Ministry Association for the benefit of anyone who's hungry or otherwise doing it tough. The Blackbutt Car Enthusiasts Club will be holding its first Tuesday of the month meeting at the Blackbutt RSL at the corner of Muir and Douglas Streets, Blackbutt at 7:00pm tonight. The club is for motoring enthusiasts - any make, model and vintage are welcome - and in addition to sharing their love of motoring, members take part in monthly runs and attend other local events for Show & Shines. The South Burnett Regional Council's customer service centres in Blackbutt, Nanango, Kingaroy, Wondai and Murgon and all Council libraries will all be closing at noon today, and will remain closed until 8:30am on Tuesday, January 2. During the break Council staff will be manning the phones to attend to any emergencies that might arise, but most other Council services like waste collection will operate as usual.

Today's markets will feature stallholders selling fresh fruit and vegetables, arts and crafts, useful knick-knacks and clothing. Wondai Christmas Carnival
Wondai's traditional Christmas Eve Carnival will be held in Coronation Park off Mackenzie Street, Wondai from 5:00pm onwards this evening when the BBQs fire up and the hamburgers and sausages start to sizzle. This popular Carnival will feature amusements for young children; a BBQ plus tea, coffee and soft drinks; a $1-per-ticket ham wheel; a 50c-per-ticket goods wheel; great Super Draws; and Christmas favourites performed by the Wondai & District Band. Santa will also be putting in an appearance at around 7:30pm with free ice-blocks for the children. New Year's Eve Family Rodeo - Goomeri
The Goomeri and District Show Society will be holding their popular annual New Year's Eve Family Rodeo at the Goomeri Showgrounds today and tonight to help ring in the New Year. Gates will open and junior rodeo action will commence at 8:00am; pre-performance events will begin at 1:00pm; and the main rodeo will kick off around 5:00pm and continue into the evening. The event is a full bull & bronc NRA-affiliated Rodeo so you can be certain of seeing some really top class rodeo action. Events on offer include an Open Bull Ride, Saddle and Bareback Broncs, Time Event Stock and the must-have Poddy Ride for all the junior cowboys and cowgirls. And after the rodeo concludes there'll be toe-tapping live entertainment until late. A fully licensed bar and BBQ will be operating all day and night, and there's also free unpowered camping sites available on the grounds if you want to stay over after the party winds down around 1:00am. The third annual Heritage Nanango New Year's Eve Mardi Gras will be held at Pioneer Park in Drayton Street, Nanango from 5:00pm until around 10:00pm tonight. This free entry, family-friendly event will feature showground rides and amusements for children, live entertainment from popular South Burnett trio Pobblebonk, food and drinks at everyday prices and a giant fireworks display at 9:00pm so mums and dads can put their children to bed early, and revellers who want to continue on to midnight can do so at the nearby Nanango RSL, the town's three hotels or at private parties. The Commercial Hotel at the corner of Haly and Glendon Streets, Kingaroy will be holding two parties to celebrate New Year's Eve tonight. In the beer garden, comedy hosts DJ Tetris and DJ Tetanus (Bogan Bingo’s Chook and Rocko) will be reliving the tunes, trivia and Y2K panic of the daggiest decade since the 1980’s. From 8:00pm, the Doomsday Clock will count down to the coming apocalypse with a hilarious line up of 90s live music, DJ sets, comedy, pub games and prizes.
