The Wondai Neighbourhood Watch group will be holding their regular monthly meeting from 7:30pm to about 9:00pm tonight at the Wondai Diggers Club in Mackenzie Street. The group meet at the same time and venue on the first Tuesday of every month, and all local residents are very welcome to attend.

Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at the old railway station building at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for its regular Tuesday get-together today, kicking off with a cuppa at 9:00am. The Proston Show Society will be holding its Annual General Meeting at the Golden Spurs Hotel in Blake Street, Proston at 7:00pm tonight - a change of the originally planned venue due to the latest COVID restrictions. Wednesday Night Poker - Kingaroy

Alcoholics Anonymous - Kingaroy
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other to help solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership. A.A. isn't allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organisation or institution. Father's Day Fun Day - Proston
The Golden Spurs Hotel at the corner of Blake and Rodney Streets in Proston will be holding a Fathers Day Fun Day today, kicking off with a BBQ breakfast and followed by pig racing, a pig on a spit, lots of prizes and give-aways and live music tonight. Free overnight camping is available nearby and a courtesy bus will be operating from Kingaroy to Murgon as well. This is a COVID Safe event so while there's no admission charge, bookings are required. You can make one or reserve a seat on the bus by phoning Di and Andy at the Spurs on (07) 4168-9069.

Macrame Afternoon - Kingaroy
CANCELLED: A Macrame Afternoon will be held at the SB Care Hall at the corner of Kingaroy and Avoca Streets in Kingaroy (just opposite SupaIGA) from 3:00pm to 5:30pm this afternoon as a fundraiser for Relay For Life. Today's event will be led by Villa Sapi and all materials, nibbles and drinks will be provided. Tickets are $75 per head and only 20 are available. You can book them or get more information through the event's Facebook page. Note: This event was cancelled on Monday, August 31 due to new COVID restrictions.

Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets, but they'll be operating in a COVID Safe way. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and attract up to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Kingaroy Art Gallery Open Day
CANCELLED: The Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery in Haly Street, Kingaroy (just opposite the peanut silos) will be running an Open Day from ?9:00am to 1:00pm this morning to showcase their new exhibitions. Everyone is welcome and admission is free. Note: This Open Day was cancelled on Monday, August 31 due to tightened COVID restrictions. However, the Gallery will be open from 10:00am to 4:00pm Mondays to Fridays as usual if you'd like to pop in and view the latest offerings.

Junior Cricket Training - Nanango
A Junior Cricket Training Day will be held at the Nanango Scorpions cricket grounds in Burnett Street, Nanango from 10:00am to noon today. This COVID Safe event is open to all South Burnett junior players eligible for and interested in U13s and U12s representative cricket (ie boys born after September 1, 2007 and girls born after September 1, 2006; registered with a local club in the SBCA competition). Only players and coaches/assistants will be permitted onto the grounds, with separate entry and exit points in use. Hand sanitizer will be available and strict adherence to social distancing rules will be required. All players and staff must also sign in, and players must also bring their own drinks/snacks and playing equipment, preferably including their own 142gm leather cricket ball.

Goomeri Twilight Markets
Goomeri will be holding its quarterly Twilight Markets and Food Vans night from 4:00pm to 8:00pm this evening at Goomeri Market Square behind Joe's Grand Hotel. The markets feature a range of food vans from Gympie and the Sunshine Coast offering dishes that are usually unavailable locally (unless you cook them yourself) along with market stalls and entertainment, and are run as a fund-raiser for the Goomeri Pumpkin Festival. Previous Twilight Markets have attracted close to 1000 people to this family friendly, pet friendly and COVID Safe outing, and everyone is welcome!

Yarraman Horse Ride
CANCELLED: The annual 25km Yarraman Horse Ride will depart from the Yarraman Showgrounds on the New England Highway at 8:30am this morning for a guided ride around the Yarraman district. Riders need to BYO horse(s) and tack, and because this year's ride was limited to 100 riders due to COVID it's all booked out. The Ride will be preceded by a pre-ride talk at 7:30am, and a BBQ lunch and drinks will be on sale during the ride. Tonight there'll be a $20 per person spit roast dinner available, along with a bar and live music. Free on-site camping is also available on Friday and Saturday nights. More details? Saturday AFL - Kingaroy
AFL fans can enjoy the second-last round of this year's shortened 10-round Darling Downs AFL competition in Kingaroy today when the South Burnett Saints host the Toowoomba Tigers on their home ground at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy. The South Burnett Saints women's team will play Toowoomba at 12:50pm, and they'll be followed by the Saints' men at 2:30pm and - for the very first time! - a Reserve Grade men's game at 4:30pm. Spectators are very welcome, but will need to either stay in their cars or observe proper social distancing. Everyone is welcome!

Today is the first Sunday in September: Fathers Day, the counterpoint to Mothers Day and probably the one time of the year that thoughtful children make their Dad breakfast in bed, get him his Ipad so he can read the Sunday news and then stay well out of his hair for at least an hour or two (especially if he was out celebrating last night). Dimities Cottage in Haly Street, Wondai will be hosting a Fathers Day High Tea on their deck from 8:00am to 11:30am, and following this up with a BYO Fathers Day Roast Lunch from noon to around 2:00pm. NTC Auditions - Nanango
The Nanango Theatre Company will be holding the first of two auditions for its December production of the classic radio play "It's A Wonderful Life" at their playhouse in Elk Street, Nanango from 5:00pm to 7:00pm tonight. The NTC are seeking 6-7 actors to read out the main parts, as well as others to create sound effects and handle the back-of-stage work. The play will be performed four times in early December and everyone who'd like to try out for it is very welcome! Nanango Cup Race Meeting
The Nanango Race Club will be holding their second race meeting since February today by running their deferred Nanango Cup Meeting at the Lee Park Raceway off the D'Aguilar Highway just south of Nanango from 11:00am to around 5:00pm. Today's races will run under COVID Safe conditions and all guests will be required to sign in at the ticket office on arrival and observe proper social distancing. The race club's popular Champagne@TheBit Bar will be serving up platters all day if you fancy a bite; a licensed bar and BBQ will be operating under the extended covered area; seating will be outdoors on the lawn; and there'll be plenty of bookmakers and an on-course tote available in the betting ring to take your wagers. This will be a 5 race meeting and buses will be running to the races from Kingaroy's Glendon Street Bus Depot (12:00 noon) and Nanango's Fitzroy Hotel at 12:30pm. The first race will leave the barriers around 1:30pm but gates will open at 11:00am so go-getters can get a head start on that all-important socialising. The festival is being sponsored by the South Burnett Regional Council and inexpensive caravan and camping sites and cabins can be booked from the Yallakool Tourist Park. Final competition winners will be announced around lunchtime tomorrow. Sudden Death Saturday AFL - Kingaroy
AFL fans can enjoy a bumper day of footy at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy when the South Burnett Saints host the first round of this year's finals series on home turf. The day will begin at 9:30am with an U12s clash between Coolaroo and the Dalby Swans, and this will be followed by an U14s match at 11:10am between the Toowoomba Tigers and Dalby Swans. At 12:50pm, the Saints' women's team will take to the field to battle it out with the Goondiwindi Hawks, and they'll be followed by the Saints' men's team at 2:30pm, who'll take on the Dalby Swans. All today's matches are Elimination Finals (ie. sudden death), with the winners going through to the Preliminary Finals while the losers finish their season. The Grand Final will be played in Toowoomba on October 3. Spectators are very welcome at all of today's matches, but will need to either stay in their cars or observe proper social distancing. National Police Remembrance Day
Today is National Police Remembrance Day, a day when police officers and their supporters usually gather together to remember fellow officers who have fallen in the line of duty, as well as recognise the commitment, dedication and bravery of all past, present and future police officers. In the South Burnett a service is normally held at a different location in the region each year to mark the day (eg: at Wondai in 2019; at Kumbia in 2018 etc). However this year - because of the COVID-19 pandemic - the traditional service will not be held. Instead, people who support this event are asked to observe a minute's silence at some point today to recognise the sacrifices of serving, retired and fallen officers.
