Rugby League Preliminary Final - Kingaroy
Rugby league fans should head to T.J. O'Neill Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy at 6:30pm tonight to watch the A-grade Preliminary Final between Kingaroy's Red Ants and the Murgon Mustangs, both of whom are seeking a Grand Final berth to play Nanango's Stags next week. A bar and canteen will be operating and everyone is very welcome. Meanwhile, junior league matches will be played in Gayndah this week.

Men's Saturday Bowls - Yarraman
The Yarraman Bowls Club in Margaret Street, Yarraman will be holding their weekly Men's Lawn Bowls games from 9:30am this morning. New players are always welcome. More details from the club: (07) 4163-8269.

Murgon Cricket Sign-On Day
Murgon's junior and senior cricket teams will be holding their 2018-19 season Sign On Day at the Murgon Sportsgrounds in Macalister Street from 10:00am to 12:00 noon this morning. Ex-Bulls player Chris Simpson will be on site and there will also be some skills sessions. This year, the Murgon Cricket Club will be running a Junior Blasters program for 4-7-year-olds (In2Cricket) on Thursdays from 4:00pm-5:00pm; and a Master Blasters program on Friday nights from 6:00-8:00pm for beginners (8-12-year-olds), so all ages are very welcome.

Spring Cent Auction - Nanango
The Nanango RSL Citizen's Auxiliary will be holding their 5th annual Spring Cent Auction at Taras Hall next to the Nanango RSL in Henry Street, Nanango this afternoon. Doors will open at 11:30am so early birds can inspect all the items on offer and formulate their bidding strategies. The auction itself will get underway at 1:00pm and conclude at around 2:30pm. There'll be lots of great items up for grabs - over 100 - and the $5 admission includes a free sheet of tickets and a great afternoon tea, plus a Lucky Door ticket. Charity Bike Ride - Cooyar
A Charity Bike Ride to raise money for the Cooyar Hotel's UGLY Bartender entrant Karyn Williamson and leukaemia research will depart the Cooyar Hotel at 10:00am this morning and return at around 3:30pm this afternoon after a 260km round trip over a mystery course. Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and attract up to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? 101st Annual Wondai Show
The 101st Annual Wondai Show will get underway at the Wondai Showgrounds at the end of Baynes Street in Wondai at 8:30am this morning and will run until late tonight. Highlights of this year's Show include judgings of dogs, horses, poultry, stud beef and dairy cattle; pavilion and trade displays; sideshow alley; displays of antique tractors stationary engines and arts and crafts; chainsaw racing; a ute and truck show; a performance by the Wondai & District Town Band; entertainment by the St Mary's Whip Cracking Team and Amber Goldsmith; barrel racing at 4:00pm and an action-packed bull ride at 6:00pm. Admission to today's Show is $10 for adults, $6 for pensioners and $6 for high school students with ID, and food and drink will be available throughout the day.

South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip
Noosaville's Outbike Australia will be running a South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip for cyclists today. The day trip will pick up participants at Noosa, Noosaville and Gympie and will offer three options: an easy ride from Kingaroy to Murgon (45km sealed); a hard ride from Murgon to Kilkivan (45km unsealed); and an extreme 90km ride from Kingaroy to Kilkivan. Bus fares are $120 return from Noosa, and bikes can be hired for $20 if you don't have your own. South Burnett locals are also welcome to take part, and there's $40 rider and bike transfers from Kilkivan to Kingaroy available if you need help getting back home. More details? Ringsfield House Clearing Sale - Nanango
A clearance sale of kitchen gear and other surplus items from Ringsfield House will be held at Kimlin Road, Nanango (behind Showgrounds) at 10:00am this morning. Proceeds will go to the Nanango Historical Society.

Garage And Boot Sale - Proston
The Proston Men's Shed will be holding a Spring Garage and Boot Sale and an auction at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston from 8:00am until noon today (auction starts at 10:00am). There'll be tea, coffee and soft drinks available along with a sausage sizzle, and all proceeds will go to farmers' drought relief.

South Burnett Football Grand Finals
South Burnett football will be holding their 2018 Grand Finals at Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street in Kingaroy this afternoon. In the Women's Division, Nanango's Panthers will play the Barambah Bears at 1:00pm, and this will be followed by the Men's Division clash between Wests and the Barambah Bears at 3:00pm. A canteen will be running on site and spectators are assured of two really great games of football as all four teams wrestle it out for victory. Note: Today's matches had originally been planned for Wondai, but were moved to Kingaroy early this week because the Wondai soccer fields have been knocked about by this year's dry, cold weather.

Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404

Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. Kennel Jam Session - Hivesville
The monthly Kennel Jam Session will be held at the Hivesville Hotel in Main Street, Hivesville from 5:00pm until late tonight. All musicians young and old are welcomed at these sessions, and so are all music genres. All the necessary backline gear is provided, too - just bring along your guitar, your voice and your friends and enjoy a great night of music. Accommodation is available at special rates for music lovers on the night, there's free camping nearby, and dinner will be served from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

Kingaroy Junior Cricket Sign-On Day
Kingaroy Junior Cricket will be holding a Come & Try and Sign-On Day at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy (next to Beangrowers) from 10:00am to noon this morning. New players are very welcome!

Two Bob Short - Kingaroy

Ride For Relay Barefoot Bowls - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Mountain Bike Club will be holding a fundraising event for this year's 'Ride For Relay' team at the Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman Street from 2:30pm and 5:30pm this afternoon. The Ride For Relay team will be making an epic 5-day ride between Murgon and Camp Duckadang, then back to Kingaroy Showgrounds this year as part of Relay For Life and there'll be barefoot bowls games on offer (always a lot of fun - but wear soft-soled shoes or go barefoot). There'll also be an afternoon tea available, a licensed bar in operation and a multi-draw raffle. Fathers Day
Today is the first Sunday in September: Fathers Day, the counterpoint to Mothers Day and probably the one time of the year that thoughtful children make their Dad breakfast in bed, get him his Ipad so he can read the Sunday news and then stay well out of his hair for at least an hour or two (especially if he was out celebrating last night). Alcoholics Anonymous - Nanango
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other to help solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership. A.A. isn't allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organisation or institution. Danny's Diner - Kingaroy
Danny's Diner - a free community dinner - will be held at the Uniting Church Hall at the corner of Alford and Youngman streets in Kingaroy from 5:30pm to 7:00pm tonight. The dinner is an initiative of the Kingaroy District Ministry Association for the benefit of anyone who's hungry or otherwise doing it tough. The South Burnett Mountain Bike Club will be holding its monthly meeting at the Commercial Hotel at the corner of Glendon and Haly Streets, Kingaroy at 6:30pm this evening. The club caters for mountain bike riding enthusiasts and in addition to regular rides, has built an extensive series of mountain bike cycling tracks in the McEuen Forestry area in Wondai. The 2018 Heritage Nanango Country Music Muster will be held at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street, Nanango from September 6-9, and today it will get underway in a low-key fashion as guests file into Nanango from all over south-east Queensland to set up camp and prepare for a long weekend of country music fun. The 2018 Muster will kick off with a Campers Walk Up Concert which will start at 6:00pm and continue until around 10:00pm tonight. You can get in to attend today's concert for free, but tomorrow the fee will be $20; an all-day Saturday pass will be $35 or $20 if you come after 3:00pm; or you can buy a 4-day pass to the entire event for $50 (young people aged 14 to 17 can get tickets for half price, and under-14s accompanied by an adult can get in for free). Camping will also be available at the Showgrounds and fees range between $7 and $9 per night for unpowered or powered sites - but a booking for any camp site is essential because the Muster usually packs the Showgrounds to capacity. Rugby League Grand Finals - Nanango
The South Burnett's 2018 rugby league season will wrap up today with the Grand Finals, which will be played at Fred Kassulke Oval off the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango's CBD, kicking off at 12:00 noon with the U12s grand final between Murgon and Cherbourg. This will be followed by the U14s match between Chinchilla and Kingaroy at 1:15pm, and then the U16s clash between Nanango and Chinchilla at 2:30pm. After this, the A-grade Grand Final will be played between Nanango's Stags and Kingaroy's Red Ants at 4:00pm in what promises to be an excellent match. South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip
Noosaville's Outbike Australia will be running a South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip for cyclists today. The day trip will pick up participants at Noosa, Noosaville and Gympie and will offer three options: an easy ride from Kingaroy to Murgon (45km sealed); a hard ride from Murgon to Kilkivan (45km unsealed); and an extreme 90km ride from Kingaroy to Kilkivan. Bus fares are $120 return from Noosa, and bikes can be hired for $20 if you don't have your own. Heritage Nanango Country Music Muster
The 2018 Heritage Nanango Country Music Muster will be held at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street, Nanango from September 6-9, and today the Muster will start at 9:00am with a mammoth Invited Artists Concert that will play right through to 11:00pm tonight. Confirmed artists for this year's Muster are Tom Maxwell, Mary-Ann Benz, the Gottani Sisters, Wayne Horsburgh, Jeff Brown, Terry Gordan, Glenn Jones, Peter Pratt, Graham Rodger, Brian Letton, Justin Standley, Dean Perret and Bev Branson. Blackbutt Avocado Festival
The 2018 Blackbutt Avocado Festival will be held in the area stretching from Blackbutt's CBD down to Blackbutt Showgrounds from 7:00am this morning (with breakfast at the Country Canteen) through until late tonight. Outside the newly relocated Blackbutt Memorial Hall near the Roy Emerson Museum at the end of Hart Street, there'll be Avocado Rolling for big cash prizes, along with Avocado Tossing and Avocado Judging. And inside the hall, there'll be avocado cooking demonstrations by South Burnett Food Ambassador Jason Ford, along with avocado sales, games and demos. Elsewhere, visitors can browse a big range of market stalls or watch woodcutting competitions near the XXXX Gold Woodcutters Bar. The giant Ken Mills Toyota Street Parade will wend its way along the highway at 11:00am, and there'll be live music all day thanks to Meandu Mine. And at 5:00pm in the evening when the market stalls begin to pack up, the festival will conclude with a fun rock and roll dance at the Showgrounds that will run until 8:00pm. All day there'll be lots of activities and stalls to browse, plus displays of antique machinery, cars and all manner of other things. The first day of the annual two day Kingaroy & District Vintage Machinery Club Rally will be held at Geoff Raph Drive at Kingaroy Airport between 9:00am and 5:00pm today. The first day of the weekend long Wondai Spring Garden Expo will be held at the Wondai Sports Grounds off the Bunya Highway just north of Wondai's CBD from 8:00am this morning through until 4:30pm this afternoon. The Expo is one of the largest gardening shows of its type in south-east Queensland, and it always draws hundreds of keen gardeners to Wondai every September. SR Automotive Manumbar Rally - Nanango and Manumbar
The fourth round of the Queensland Rally Championship - the SR Automotive Manumbar Rally - will be held in and around the forestry areas of Nanango and Manumbar today. Drivers will depart from Fred Kassulke Oval south of Nanango's CBD at 9:00am for the first two stages east of the town, then return for a service and refuelling, then tackle another three sections before a second refuelling at the Manumbar Campdraft Grounds. After this they'll do four more stages before concluding at the campdrafting grounds. There's plenty of spots along the courses for spectators and free camping at Manumbar, along with toilets and showers, and there'll be breakfast, lunch and dinner available at Manumbar too, along with a Sunday brekkie. National Police Remembrance Day - Kumbia
Today is National Police Remembrance Day, a day when police officers and their supporters gather together to remember fellow officers who have fallen in the line of duty, as well as recognising the commitment, dedication and bravery of all past, present and future police officers. In the South Burnett, a service is held at a different location in the region each year to mark the day. This year's service will be held at the Peace Lutheran Church at 10 Kearney's Road, Kumbia at 3:00pm, and everyone is welcome.

Kingaroy RSL Bingo

Advanced Tai Chi - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Arthritis & Osteoporosis Support Group will be running an advanced Tai Chi class at SBcare at the corner of Avoca and Kingaroy Streets in Kingaroy from 9:00am to 10:00am this morning. The classes aim to help relieve pain and improve quality of life, relieve stress, sharpen concentration, and improve balance, posture and mobility. Friday Night At The Shed - Nanango
The Shed in Little Drayton Street, Nanango (just next to the Scott Car Park) will be open from 7:30pm until late tonight for local musicians and anyone else who enjoys music to come along, bring their instruments and jam in a relaxed and informal setting (or just sit on the Shed's lounges, listen in and enjoy the wide variety of talent on offer). Nanango Kennel Club Championship Dog Show
The Nanango Kennel Club will be holding their annual Championship Dog Show at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street, Nanango from 8:30am to late this adfternoon. This huge show usually attracts 300 to 400 magnificent pedigree purebred dogs of all shapes and sizes, and if you're a fan of four-legged friends it's a must-see. Beautiful dogs will be competing (along with their owners) with the ultimate aim of winning Best In Show, and many rare and unusual breeds will be present as well. The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). The annual Cooyar Hotel Rodeo will be held in the grounds of the Cooyar Hotel on the New England Highway at Cooyar from 3:00pm this afternoon (when gates open) through until late tonight. As usual, the rodeo will feature lots of bone-jarring, pulse pounding action followed by live entertainment from Eight Second Ride, and there'll be food and drink available in the grounds as well. South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip
Noosaville's Outbike Australia will be running a South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip for cyclists today. The day trip will pick up participants at Noosa, Noosaville and Gympie and will offer three options: an easy ride from Kingaroy to Murgon (45km sealed); a hard ride from Murgon to Kilkivan (45km unsealed); and an extreme 90km ride from Kingaroy to Kilkivan. Bus fares are $120 return from Noosa, and bikes can be hired for $20 if you don't have your own. South Burnett locals are also welcome to take part, and there's $40 rider and bike transfers from Kilkivan to Kingaroy available if you need help getting back home. More details? Lifeflight Chainsaw Races - Maidenwell
The Maidenwell Community Group will be holding the first day of a weekend-long post ripping competition at the Maidenwell Sportsgrounds today as a fundraiser for the LifeFlight helicopter rescue service. Today's events will start at 10:00am and will focus on heats for the Open Post Rip. There'll be food and drink available on site, thanks to the Tanduringie State School P&C, along with a jumping castle and face painting to keep young children amused. Tomorrow, things will get underway with a BBQ breakfast between 6:00am and 9:00am, followed by a 10 event program that will feature the finals of the Open Post Rip along with a Major Open, a Jack and Jill, a Consolation and a Local post rip, too. There'll also be free overnight camping available in the Sportsgrounds for competitors and/or spectators who want to stay over, and both the nearby Maidenwell Hotel and Maidenwell Trading Post will be operating as well.
