Goomeri SES Meeting
The Goomeri SES will be holding their regular Wednesday night training session at the SES Building in Dickinson Park, Goomeri from 6:30pm to around 8:30pm tonight. Rising Stars Playgroup - Yarraman
The Yarraman Rising Stars Playgroup will be meeting at the Yarraman P9 State School Meeting Room between 8:45am and 10:30am this morning. Children involved in the playgroup will get to enjoy a morning of indoor and outdoor play and fun; develop pre-reading and pre-writing skills; form strong relationships with other children; and transition to school more smoothly. If you're bringing your child along, you should also bring along morning tea, a water bottle, a hat, closwed-in shoes suitable for climbing and old clothes (sunscreen will be provided). The Nanango Country Quilters And Crafts group meet every Wednesday at the Nanango Cultural Centre in George Street, Nanango between 9:00am to 2:00pm. Members can get to pursue a wide variety of crafts at these informal gatherings and the $3 meeting fee includes morning tea (but BYO cup and lunch). There's also usually a raffle as well. Blackbutt Camera Club Meeting
The Blackbutt Camera Club will be holding a meeting at the Uniting Church Hall in Coulson Street, Blackbutt from 4:00pm to 8:00pm this evening. The club meets on the first and third Wednesdays of every month except December and January. The first Wednesday is devoted to practical photography (bring your own camera and equipment) and the third Wednesday to a review of those images and talks and tips on software (bring your laptop), followed by a committee meeting at 7:00pm. Alcoholics Anonymous - Proston
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other to help solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership. A.A. isn't allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organisation or institution. A Chatty Craft Evening will be held at the QCWA Rooms at 122 Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy from 6:00pm to 8:00pm tonight. This free social evening is held on the first Wednesday of each month (except January) and it allows women to get together with other women interested in crafts, forge new friendships and have a great time. Art Exhibition Opening - Wondai

South Burnett Pantry - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). Nanango Cup Race Meeting
The Nanango Race Club will be holding their annual Nanango Cup Race Meeting at the Lee Park Raceway off the D'Aguilar Highway just south of Nanango from 11:00am to around 5:00pm today. Today's races will have a "Elegant Black and Ravishing Red" fashion theme and everyone is encouraged to dress up in their most stylish outfits and/or accessories to be in the running for some great Moffatdale Ridge Fashions Of The Field spot prizes. The race club's popular Champagne@TheBit Bar will be serving up platters all day if you fancy a bite; a licensed bar and BBQ will be operating under the extended covered area; the race club canteen will be open for sit-down dining; and there'll be plenty of bookmakers and an on-course tote available in the betting ring to take your wagers. This meeting patrons can also enjoy two mini-grandstands that will be erected on the grounds - but if it rains there's heaps of undercover seating too! A lot of people like to use the Nanango Cup race meeting for relaxed get-togethers, and you're welcome to picnic on the lawns or even bring your own marquee if you like. The annual BVRT E2E Challenge - a 165km cycling race over the full length of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail between Wulkuraka and Yarraman - will be running from 6:00am to 6:00pm today. And after the recent completion of the BVRT's "missing link" between Toogoolawah and Moore, this will be the first year this gruelling race has been run entirely on the Trail. The BVRT E2E is a race for serious cyclists (who'll be in the running for prizes) and those cyclists who just want to test their fitness (they'll be in the running for a feeling of elation if they can manage to complete the course). 25th Annual Kumbia Brain Drain
Yes! It's on again and more mind-snapping than ever! The 25th Annual Kumbia Brain Drain will be held at Kumbia Hall on the Bunya Highway in Kumbia from 6:00pm until late this evening. The event - which is the major annual fundraiser for Kumbia State School P&C - is a trivia-style tournament where teams of 6 compete for great cash prizes. Guests at this year's Brain Drain are encouraged to dress to the theme "'Straya – 1993 to 2018" to be in the running for great prizes for the best-dressed dinki-di team and best team name. There'll also be cash prizes for round winners and overall winners, along with the usual fun-filled audience participation games and raffles. The 15th round of this year's local football competition will be played in Wondai and Kingaroy today - the last round before the all-important 4-week finals series. The Nanango Kennel Club will be running a 20km Endurance Test for dogs (and their owners) from 5:00am to 9:00am this morning at the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street. The Endurance Test is open to ANKC registered dogs, which must complete a 20km run within 2 hours and 35 minutes while their handlers ride bicycles or run with the dogs. The day trip will pick up participants at Noosa, Noosaville and Gympie and will offer three options: an easy ride from Kingaroy to Murgon (45km sealed); a hard ride from Murgon to Kilkivan (45km unsealed); and an extreme 90km ride from Kingaroy to Kilkivan. The final round of fixtures for this year's local rugby league competition will be played at Cherbourg, Kingaroy and Wondai today (the finals will start on the August 25). The South Burnett Karate Association will be hosting its annual ISKA South Burnett Martial Arts Tournament at Kingaroy High School's sports hall from 8:00am until around 2:00pm today. Vietnam Veterans Day - Blackbutt, Nanango and Kingaroy
Today is Vietnam Veterans Day, which was formerly known as Long Tan Day in memory of the 18 Australians killed at the battle of Long Tan on the 18th August 1966. Vietnam Veterans Day has come to symbolise our nation's collective memory of the Vietnam War and in the South Burnett, special services are conducted every year to mark it. In Blackbutt, the president and members of the Blackbutt RSL Sub-Branch will be holding a service to commemorate the 52nd anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan at the RSL Memorial in Muir Street at 11:00am sharp; in Nanango, the Nanango RSL will be holding a commemoration service at the George Street War Memorial at 10:00am; and in Kingaroy, the South Burnett branch of the Vietnam Veterans Association will be holding a commemoration service in the Kingaroy RSL carpark at 10:30am with guest speaker Eric Law AM, a Wakka Wakka Elder and himself a Vietnam Veteran. After 15 weeks of hard-fought competition, South Burnett football will be entering the three-week finals season this weekend with the minor and major semi-finals being played at Kingaroy's Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street. In the minor semis, Wests will play the Gunnettes at noon, and they'll be followed by Barambah and Nanango's men's teams at 2:00pm. After this, Nanango's women will play Barambah in the major semi-finals at 4:00pm, followed by Gunners and Wests' men's sides at 6:00pm. The winners of the minor semis will go on to play the losers of the major semis next Saturday in the preliminary finals, while the winners of the major semis will go straight through to the Grand Final on September 1. The second annual RACQ LifeFlight Community Fun Day will be held at Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street from 9:00am to around 5:00pm today as a fundraiser for LifeFlight. Activities will kick off with a Teddy Bears Picnic for children, followed at 10:00am with the official opening and then a LifeLine Recipients Walk, where people who’ve benefitted from the rescue service can take part to say thanks. After this, those with an athletic bent can take part in the Bill Hull Top Gun Challenge, tackling an obstacle course, a two-person Mazda BT50 ute pull and a team tug-o-war. Kingaroy's Friendship Markets will be running in the grounds all day, and there'll be a $5 Show & Shine, too. Children can have fun with face painting, fairy floss, jumping castles and merry-go-rounds, while adults can have a go at dunking local VIPs at $5 for three throws. There’ll also be displays by St John’s Lutheran School’s whipcracking team, Ally Walker Dance Academy and Kingaroy Dance Academy, along with the Lions and Rotary Clubs and the QCWA and after lunch, popular local duo Risa will be taking to the stage to round out the day. The Maidenwell Community Group will be launching the South Burnett's first-ever Street Library outside the Maidenwell Trading Post from 11:00am onwards this morning. Noosaville's Outbike Australia will be running a South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip for cyclists today. The day trip will pick up participants at Noosa, Noosaville and Gympie and will offer three options: an easy ride from Kingaroy to Murgon (45km sealed); a hard ride from Murgon to Kilkivan (45km unsealed); and an extreme 90km ride from Kingaroy to Kilkivan. Business South Burnett will be holding a series of business seminars at Nanango RSL in Henry Street, Nanango today, kicking off with a meeting of the South Burnett Regional Council's Disaster Recovery Economic Sub-Group at 1:00pm and followed by a presentation about the Council's new procurement system at 3:00pm. At 5:00pm, there'll be a series of short presentations from the Burnett Business Centre, Morgan's Health Solutions, Ringsfield House, the Palace Hotel and Nanango Limousines, and at 6:00pm a panel discussion led by representatives from the region's business groups about activity within their areas. The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items).
