Danny's Diner - a free community dinner - will be held at the Uniting Church Hall at the corner of Alford and Youngman streets in Kingaroy from 5:30pm to 7:00pm tonight. The dinner is an initiative of the Kingaroy District Ministry Association for the benefit of anyone who's hungry or otherwise doing it tough. Blackbutt Car Enthusiasts Club
The Blackbutt Car Enthusiasts Club will be holding its first Tuesday of the month meeting at the Blackbutt RSL at the corner of Muir and Douglas Streets, Blackbutt at 7:00pm tonight. South Burnett Community Agriculture Network - Wondai
The South Burnett Community Agriculture Network will be holding a forum at the Wondai Town Hall at the corner of Scott and Mackenzie Streets in Wondai at 5:30pm this evening (for a 6:00pm start). The forum is designed for agricultural producers and growers and the aim is to discuss the potential of forming an over-arching producers group within the region to encourage a combined approach to the challenges and opportunities facing agriculture locally. Kumbia producer, Peter Howlett, and former Rural Financial Counsellor and Nanango grazier, Alan Broome, will be special guest speakers, and Rural And Remote Mental Health will be providing a free winter warmer soup and bread roll at 5:30pm for an early dinner. South Burnett Pantry - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). Art Exhibition Opening - Wondai
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery on the roundabout at Wondai will be opening their latest monthly exhibition for 2017 with a wine and cheese tasting at 6:00pm tonight. This month the gallery will be hosting three separate exhibitions: artist Zane Stuart in the main gallery; South Burnett photographer Denise Keelan in the front gallery; and the Monday Artists in the rear gallery. Children from Proston State School will also be mounting a mini exhibition of their own in Kidz Korner. As usual, tonight's opening will also feature great hot and cold finger foods and punch, along with wine tastings from Moffatdale Ridge, live entertainment and lots of fun socialising. Friday Night At The Shed - Nanango
The Shed in Little Drayton Street, Nanango (just next to the Scott Car Park) will be open from 7:30pm until late tonight for local musicians and anyone else who enjoys music to come along, bring their instruments and jam in a relaxed and informal setting (or just sit on the Shed's lounges, listen in and enjoy the wide variety of talent on offer). The South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon will be holding their latest "Friday Night Live" from 6:00pm to 9:00pm this evening. Friday Night Live is open to all primary school and high school students and the get-together features music and a range of fun activities. Food and soft drinks are available from the PCYC canteen and free bus travel is available from Goomeri and Wondai, with pick up at 5:30pm (5:50pm in Goomeri) and return after 9:00pm. Steve Parish Photography Workshop - Kingaroy
Acclaimed Australian landscape photographer Steve Parish OAM will be presenting a photography workshop for young people aged 12 to 18 at St Mary's Catholic College in Kent Street, Kingaroy from noon to 3:00pm today. Mr Parish has been brought to the region by the Kingaroy Concerned Citizens Group as part of its 385 Alive! art project, thanks to funding from the South Burnett Regional Council's RADF fund, and the workshop is free. Note: Mr Parish will also be giving a public talk at the college tomorrow night.

KSHS Annual Flair Concert - Kingaroy
Kingaroy State High School's annual Flair Concert will be held at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon St, Kingaroy from 6:30pm this evening (the show starts at 7:00pm and usually finishes around 9:00pm). This year's program includes talented solo singers, dancing, instrumental and comedy acts, and the Kingaroy State High School Stage Band and Men's Choir. Tickets are $7 for single admission (or $5 if pre-purchased at the school) or $15 for a family of four. Come along with your friends and family for a night of entertainment!

Yarraman Kindy Bingo Night
The Yarraman Kindy will be holding a Bingo Night at the Yarraman Community Hall in Browne Street, Yarraman from 6:00pm this evening (eyes down at 7:00pm). Entry is $2 and guests can purchase game cards on the night. A licensed bar and canteen will also be operating, and there's more than $500 in cash prizes to be won. 24th Annual Kumbia Brain Drain
Yes! It's on again and more mind-snapping than ever! The 24th Annual Kumbia Brain Drain will be held at Kumbia Hall on the Bunya Highway in Kumbia from 6:00pm until late this evening. The event - which is the major annual fundraiser for Kumbia State School P&C - is a trivia-style tournament where teams of 6 compete for great cash prizes. Guests at this year's Brain Drain are encouraged to dress to the theme "The Old West" to be in the running for great prizes for the best-dressed team and best team name. There'll also be cash prizes for round winners and overall winners, along with the usual fun-filled audience participation games and raffles. The South Burnett's 2017 soccer season will hold its 15th round in Nanango and Kingaroy today. Today's round is the last in this season's competition before four weeks of finals kick off on August 19, so all teams will be keen to play at their best. Two Day Horse Trail Ride - Blackbutt
The Blackbutt Pony Express Club and the Somerset Trail Riding Club will be holding a two-day trail ride this weekend, departing from the Blackbutt Showgrounds in Bowman Road at 9:00am this morning for a six-hour BYO lunch ride along the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail and Blackbutt-Benarkin forestry trails (tomorrow riders will depart, again at 9:00am, for a four hour BYO morning tea ride along the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail to Nukku and back again). Ride fees are $5 for either a one day ride or the whole weekend, and can be paid to the Pony Express Club on arrival. Camping facilities and horse troughs are available at the Showgrounds, but you should BYO electric fence because horse pens are limited. The Nanango Race Club will be holding their annual Nanango Cup Race Meeting at the Lee Park Raceway off the D'Aguilar Highway just south of Nanango from 11:00am to around 5:00pm today. Scots In The Bush - Boondooma
The first day of this year's four-day Scots In The Bush Scottish and Celtic Festival will be held at Boondooma Homestead at 8262 Mundubbera-Durong Road at Boondooma today. The Festival features Scottish pipe bands and dancers, folk singers and poets as well as Scottish food, games and more; and special guests this year include the Ishka Ceilidh Band, Celtic Psychosis, Velcro, the Leaping Lizards, the Noosa Pipe Band, Darryl Craft, the Rum City Highland Dancers and many others. A licensed bar will be running throughout the event and meals will be available too, as well as on-site camping and Highland games. Tickets for the full four days are $65 per head for adults (which includes a bush camping site) but you can just but a day ticket if you prefer (children under 14 are free). Today the Festival will largely be about setting things up - the core of the Festival will be Friday to Sunday - but tonight Ceilidh and Celtic Crossover will be taking to the stage after dusk to kick things off in style. The second day of this year's four-day Scots In The Bush Scottish and Celtic Festival will be held at Boondooma Homestead at 8262 Mundubbera-Durong Road at Boondooma today. The Festival features Scottish pipe bands and dancers, folk singers and poets as well as Scottish food, games and more. Today is Vietnam Veterans Day, which was formerly known as Long Tan Day in memory of the 18 Australians killed at the battle of Long Tan on the 18th August 1966, when troops from 6th Battalion of the Royal Australian Regiment engaged a large enemy force there. Vietnam Veterans Day has come to symbolise our nation's collective memory of the Vietnam War and in the South Burnett, special services are conducted every year to mark it. In Blackbutt, the president and members of the Blackbutt RSL Sub-Branch will be holding a service to commemorate the 51st anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan at the RSL Memorial in Muir Street at 11:00am sharp; in Nanango, the Nanango RSL will be holding a commemoration service at the Drayton Street War Memorial at 4:30pm; and in Kingaroy, the South Burnett branch of the Vietnam Veterans Association will be holding a commemoration service in the Kingaroy RSL carpark at 10:30am. After a week's break for the Ekka long weekend, the South Burnett's 2017 soccer season will be moving into its four-week finals season today, kicking off with the Minor Semi Finals between the bottom two teams in each of the competition's four divisions. Today's matches will be played at Tom Alford Oval in Oliver Bond Street, Kingaroy, kicking off with the 2nd Division clash between Gunners and Nanango at 2:00pm. This will be followed by a Women's Division match between Gunnettes and Wests at 4:00pm, and then the 1st Division game between Wests and Barambah under lights at 6:00pm. The losers of today's matches will be wrapping up their season (it's a knock-out minor semi) while the winners will go on to play in the Preliminary Finals match in a fortnight. So spectators can expect to see some top, hard-fought matches today. A canteen will be running on the grounds and everyone is welcome!

Rugby League - Cherbourg and Wondai
The last round of games ahead of the finals are being played. At Cherbourg, the Cherbourg Hornets will take on the Kingaroy Red Ants at 2:30pm. At Wondai, the Wondai Wolves will play the Nanango Stags at 3:15pm.

Saturday Soccer - Wondai
The South Burnett's 2017 soccer season will be moving into the second week of its its four-week finals season today with its Major Semi Finals between the top two teams in each of the competition's four divisions. Today's matches will be played at the Wondai Soccer Fields north of the Wondai Sportsground on the Bunya Highway at Wondai, kicking off with the 2nd Division clash between Barambah and Wests at 2:00pm. This will be followed by a Women's Division match between Nanango and Barambah at 4:00pm, and then the 1st Division game between Nanango and Gunners at 6:00pm. The losers of today's matches will have a second chance in next week's Preliminary Finals while the winners will go on to play in the Grand Finals match in a fortnight. As a result, spectators can expect to see some really top, hard-fought matches today. A canteen will be running on the grounds and everyone is welcome!

Rail Trail Triathlon - Kingaroy To Memerambi
Kingaroy's Church In The Marketplace Sunday School will be running a Rail Trail Triathlon for walkers, runners and cyclists along the South Burnett Rail Trail this morning as a fundraiser for the church. The triathlon will begin at the Protoco entrance at the end of William Street, Kingaroy, at 10:00am. Bikers will ride through to Memerambi and back to Crawford (14km), while runners and walkers will finish at Crawford (7km). There'll be check points along the way, and transport can be organised for any participants who need a lift back to Kingaroy afterwards. The triathlon will conclude with a BBQ lunch offering $6 hamburgers and $2 sausages on bread. Cold drinks will be available for purchase, too, but there'll be free tea and coffee. Everyone - including dogs on leashes - is welcome to take part.

Saturday AFL - Kingaroy
AFL fans should head to Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy (just next to Beangrowers) for a full-on day of Aussie rules footy today. The South Burnett Saints men's and women's teams are both aiming for a spot in this year's grand finals, and today's matches will determine if the three-year-old side can achieve its awesome ambitions. The women's side will take to the field at 1:00pm in a do-or-die elimination final against South Toowoomba Bombers. They'll be followed by the men's team at 3:00pm, who'll be playing against the Goondiwindi Hawks. Today's games are the last ones that will be played in the South Burnett this season and spectators and supporters are very welcome. A bar and canteen will be running all day, too.

Ringsfield Movie Afternoon - Nanango
The Nanango Project For The Aged will be screening a Sunday afternoon movie at their cinema - the old chapel in the grounds of Ringsfield House at 41-45 Alfred Street, Nanango - from 2:30pm to around 5:00pm today. This month's film is the 2001 Australian comedy classic "The Man Who Sued God" starring Billy Connolly and Judy Davis, the 28th highest grossing Australian film of all time. Advocate Steve Myers (Billy Connolly) is a disillusioned lawyer who becomes fed-up with the judicial system. He quits the law and buys a small fishing boat to take up fishing for a living. But when his boat is struck by lightning and explodes into pieces, burns and sinks, he informs his insurance company which reviews and then declines his claim on the grounds it is not liable because his fishing boat was destroyed by an "Act of God". Frustrated, Steve then files a claim against God ... and the outrageous comedy quickly unfolds. AGL will be holding a Community Consultative Committee meeting about their proposed Coopers Gap Wind Farm proposal at the Cooranga North Memorial Hall at 41 Cooranga North Niagara Rd in Cooranga from 1:00pm to 3:00pm this afternoon about its recently approved wind farm. This is not a procurement meeting - these will be advertised in future months - but all interested people are welcome to attend as observers.
