Public Meeting - Kingaroy
A public meeting to discuss the initial findings of the $2 million South and North Burnett water study will be held at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy at 5:30pm tonight. The meeting would be of interest to irrigators and anyone who'd like to see better future water security in the South Burnett, but to comply with covid restrictions guests will need to RSVP in advance to the SBRC on (07) 4189-9100. Breakfast With BIEDO
BIEDO (the Burnett Inland Economic Development Organisation) will be holding a "Breakfast With BIEDO" Zoom meeting from 7:00am to 8:00am this morning. Alcoholics Anonymous - Kingaroy
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other to help solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership. A.A. isn't allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organisation or institution. Special Store Sale - Coolabunia
Aussie Land & Livestock will be running a Special Store Sale at the Coolabunia Saleyards on the D'Aguilar Highway at Coolabunia from 9:00am this morning. More than 1100 prime cattle will go under the hammer today, but buyers, sellers and spectators will need to observe proper social distancing if they want to watch the auction as it unfolds.

Proston Round Table Meeting
The Proston Round Table community group will be meeting at the Golden Spurs Hotel in Blake Street, Proston at 6:00pm tonight (for a 6:30pm start). Items up for discussion this evening include a possible dump point for visiting caravanners; proposed uses for a vacant block between the former Proston Town Hall and the hotel; tourism ideas for the town; an update on the silo mural project; signage on the CBD footpath regarding bikes; and feedback on a proposed new business. All interested people are very welcome to attend, and dinner can be purchased at the hotel if you get hungry.

NAIDOC Day Public Holiday - Cherbourg
Cherbourg will be having a public holiday today to commemorate NAIDOC Day. NAIDOC - the National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee - runs from the first Sunday in July to the second Sunday, and is usually marked with a community celebration. However, due to the COVID pandemic, this year's commemorations will simply be marked with a brief holiday. Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council's offices, the recycling depot and most other organisations will either be closed today or operating on restricted hours.

Murgon Services Club Reopens Today
The Murgon Services Club in Lamb Street, Murgon will reopen at noon today under Stage 3 restrictions. Patrons will be able to walk up to the bar and order drinks, order meals from the bistro and the club's gaming room will be open. Wooroolin Community Markets
The Wooroolin Community Markets will be held inside the Wooroolin QCWA Rooms on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin from 6:00am until around 12:00 noon this morning. The markets offer stalls, a sausage sizzle, fresh produce, plants and crafts and are run on the 2nd Saturday of every month except January. Saturday AFL - Kingaroy
While rugby league and soccer fans have very little to look forward to this year, AFL fans can enjoy the first round of a shortened 10 round Darling Downs AFL competition that will get underway at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy today. The South Burnett Saints women's team will play the Goondiwindi Hawks at 12:30pm, and they'll be followed by the Saints' men's team playing Dalby Swans at 2:30pm. Spectators are very welcome, but will need to either stay in their cars or observe proper social distancing if they want to watch the game from the fences. Everyone is welcome!

The South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon will reopen today after several months in lockdown. Fitness classes will start next Monday, and gymnastics classes will return next week as well - both with covid-related restrictions. Containers For Change Reopening - Cherbourg
The Containers For Change facility at Cherbourg will reopen today to process recycled drink containers. South Burnett residents who want to reclaim their 10c deposits on the containers can now use the facility again as normal, although safe distancing restrictions will still apply.

Coopers Gap CCC Meeting - Cooranga North
The Coopers Gap Community Consultative Committee will be meeting at Cooranga North Memorial Hall on Niagara Road at Cooranga North from 1:00pm to around 2:30pm this afternoon for an update on the development of AGL's Coopers Gap Wind Farm, and issues related to it. All interested people are welcome to attend as observers. Note: This meeting was originally scheduled for June, but was postponed a month due to COVID-19 restrictions.

South Burnett Regional Council Meeting - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Regional Council will be holding its monthly general meeting at the Glendon Street Council Chambers in Glendon Street, Kingaroy at 9:00am this morning. A highlight of today's meeting will be the release of the Council's 2020-21 Budget, but due to COVID-19 restrictions only Councillors, staff and media can attend this meeting in person. However, the public is welcome to watch a livestream of the proceedings on Council's website.

Food hampers are available for a modest price ($40 for a trolley-full of grocery items, fruit and vegetables, meat and dairy products, or $30 without meat, to people facing financial difficulties.

Sunshine State MX Series - Kingaroy
The first day of the weekend-long Sunshine State MX Series will be run at the South Burnett Junior MX Club's track at Edenvale (behind Kingaroy Airport) from around 8:00am this morning until near 5:00pm tonight. Today's events will feature 50cc auto, 65cc, 85cc 9-11years, veterans, women, MX2 pro and expert races, and almost 400 riders have registered to take part. Admission for spectators is $5 for adults or $2 for young people under 13, and COVID restrictions will apply. Everyone is welcome, and racing will conclude tomorrow.

The new Visit South Burnett local tourism organisation will be holding a meeting for tourism operators in the southern end of the region (ie Nanango, Yarraman, Maidenwell and Blackbutt) at the Royal Hotel on the D'Aguilar Highway in Yarraman at 6:30pm tonight. The South Burnett Regional Council's customer contact centre and library in Blake Street, Proston will be closed today due to a planned Ergon Outage which will disable electrical and computer equipment in Proston and surrounds. The Centre will reo[pewn as normal on Tuesday, July 28.

Wondai Country Running Festival
The first day of the weekend-long, family friendly Wondai Country Running Festival will be held in and around Wondai today. The festival will kick off early at 7:00am and will incorporate markets (see entry below), several Fun Runs/Walks, and a McEuen Forest Trail Run this afternoon. There'll also be a full day of live music in Coronation Park along with a bumper Wondai Markets. Tomorrow the Festival will conclude with a 10km Rail Trail run, a half marathon and a full 42km marathon along the South Burnett Rail Trail. You can get the complete entertainment program on the Festival's website. Note: This festival is usually held in June, but it was set back a month this year by the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure it complies with current restrictions.

Saturday AFL - Kingaroy

St Mary's Catholic College in Kent Street, Kingaroy will be holding a Prep Open Morning between 8:00am and 10:00am today to allow parents seeking Prep for their children to inspect the college's facilities and meet with the staff. Saturday Soccer - Kingaroy
The second week of a 10-week round robin competition between Barambah, Gunners and Wests will be played at Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street, Kingaroy from 2:00pm until after sunset today. The contest will see six matches played amongst the three teams as they compete for competition points and the revered Golden Boot award. Spectators are also welcome, but they'll need to observe COVID-safe restrictions.

Wondai Country Markets
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery's popular monthly Wondai Country Markets will be operating at Coronation Park in Wondai's CBD from 7:00am to 12:00 noon today. Today - because of the Wondai Country Festival (see above) there'll be a bumper rollup of at least 105 stallholders selling everything from fresh fruit and vegetables through to arts and crafts, useful knick-knacks, foods and clothing. There'll also be live entertainment; lots and lots of other stalls selling great gifts and goodies; and special hand-made treasures from local artisans available from the Art Gallery's "Studio" building just a short stroll across the park. The BBQs will also be firing up from 6:45am to dish out hearty breakfasts for early bargain hunters. 30th Anniversary Of Wondai Air Crash
A commemoration service will be held at the crash site memorial near Wondai Airport on the Wondai-Proston Road north of the town's CBD at around 11:45am this morning to mark the 30th anniversary of a tragic 1990 plane crash that claimed five lives. The service will be followed by light refreshments at the Wondai Diggers Club in Mackenzie Street.

Junior Motorcycle Club Race Day
The Kingaroy Junior Motorcycle Speedway Club will be holding their first Race Day since February on the main oval of Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy this morning, with gates opening at 8:00am and racing from 10:00am until around noon. The club is for young motorcycle riders aged 4 to 16 and spectators are very welcome. Wondai Country Running Festival
The second (and final) day of the weekend-long, family friendly Wondai Country Running Festival will be held in and around Wondai today. The festival will kick off early at 6:30am with a 42.2km full marathon, followed at 7:00am with a 21.1km half marathon and at 7:30am with a 10km run. Spectators can patronise fopod and coffee vans while they wait for the winners to return, which should occur around 10:30am. You can get the complete activity program on the Festival's website. Note: This festival is usually held in June, but it was set back a month this year by the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure it complies with current restrictions.
