Monday Night Line Dancing - Proston

Alcoholics Anonymous - Nanango
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other to help solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership. A.A. isn't allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organisation or institution. Chatty Craft Evening
A Chatty Craft Evening will be held at the QCWA Rooms at 122 Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy from 6:00pm to 8:00pm tonight. This free social evening is held on the first Tuesday of each month (except January) and it allows women to get together with other women interested in crafts, forge new friendships and have a great time. Danny's Diner - Kingaroy
Danny's Diner - a free community dinner - will be held at the Uniting Church Hall at the corner of Alford and Youngman streets in Kingaroy from 5:30pm to 7:00pm tonight. The dinner is an initiative of the Kingaroy District Ministry Association for the benefit of anyone who's hungry or otherwise doing it tough. Maidenwell QCWA Meeting

KCCI Meet & Greet - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be holding its regular six-weekly meet'n'greet for local businesspeople at 5:15pm this evening. Tonight's host is the Kingaroy Police Station in Alford Street, Kingaroy and Officer In Charge Snr Sgt Dave Tierney and Detective Sergeant Scott Prendergast from Kingaroy CIB will be the evening's special guest speakers. Other speakers will include representatives from the Entrepreneurship Facilitation Program, local businesses and the South Burnett Regional Council. Meeting fees are $10 per person - which includes nibbles and drinks - and the meeting is open to everyone, whether they're KCCI members or not. South Burnett Futsal Semi-Finals
The semi-finals of this season's South Burnett Futsal competition will be held at the Maryknoll Centre at St Mary's Catholic College in Kent Street, Kingaroy this evening. Intoxicate will play Inter Me-Van at 6:00pm and at 6:45pm KJ's Team will play Benchy's, with the winners of both games going on to play in next week's Grand Final. These matches will be followed at 7:30pm with a friendly game between Kingaroy Koalas United and the Red Bees. Spectators are very welcome!

Proston Men's Shed

The Yarraman Rising Stars Playgroup will be meeting at the Yarraman P9 State School Meeting Room between 8:45am and 10:30am this morning. Children involved in the playgroup will get to enjoy a morning of indoor and outdoor play and fun; develop pre-reading and pre-writing skills; form strong relationships with other children; and transition to school more smoothly. The South Burnett Regional Council will be holding an information session about an up-coming $2 million upgrade of Nanango's library and administration centre at the Nanango Cultural Centre in George Street, Nanango at 5:30pm this evening. The South Burnett Arthritis & Osteoporosis Support Group will be running Tai Chi classes at the Uniting Church Hall in Alford Street, Kingaroy this morning. An intermediate class will run from 9:00am to 10:00am, followed by a beginners class from 10:15am to 11:15am. The classes aim to help relieve pain and improve quality of life, relieve stress, sharpen concentration, and improve balance, posture and mobility. The Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery in Haly Street, Wondai (opposite the peanut silos) will be officially opening its biennial $10,000 Kingaroy Sculpture Prize at 11:00am this morning, and announcing the winners. The Sculpture Prize started in 2017 and offers two major prizes - a $7000 Acquisitive for the winner, whose creator can live anywhere in Australia; and a $2000 Acquisitive for South Burnett and Cherbourg artists only. There is also a non-acquisitive $1000 prize on offer as well. The winning pieces will ultimately go on display as public art somewhere in the region, but after today's opening all entries will remain on display at the Gallery from 10:00am to 4:00pm weekdays, and 9:00am to 1:00pm on weekends and public holidays, until Saturday, May 25. The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). 110th Annual Nanango Show
The main public day of the 110th Annual Nanango Show will get underway at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street, Nanango at 7:00am this morning when the gates open and prime cattle judging begins. This will be followed by horse events and stud cattle judging; barrel racing and rodeo events in the main ring; and chainsawing and wood chopping. The Show's official opening will occur around 1:30pm and will be followed by trotting (2:00pm); woodchops (3:00pm); a rodeo (3:00pm to 5:30pm); and monster trucks and rollover cars. Other features of this year's Show to look out for include a big Sideshow Alley, lots of great amusement rides, live music and the great Heritage Nanango fireworks display in the evening. Admission is still just $15 for adults and $10 for pension card holders and children over 14, but children under 14 accompanied by a paying adult can get in for free. Good Friday
Today is Good Friday, a public holiday. Most South Burnett business will either be closed today or operating on restricted hours. Easter Saturday, Sunday and Monday are also public holidays. If you're planning to attend something today, it would be wise to phone beforehand to check they're not taking an Easter break. And if you need to do some grocery shopping at a supermarket, your only choices are Kingaroy's Super IGA (7:00am to 9:00pm), Yarraman IGA (6:00am to 8:00pm) and Goomeri Foodworks (8:00am to 4:00pm). Finally, licenced premises are permitted to sell and supply liquor from 10:00am to 12:00pm in conjunction with a meal today if they elect to open, but takeaway sales are not permitted.

Maidenwell Running Festival
The first day of the 5th annual Maidenwell Running Festival (formerly known as the Maidenwell Marathon) will be held at the Maidenwell Sportsgrounds next to the Maidenwell Hotel today. As the name suggests, the Marathon is for runners and walkers and this year there will be 12 events over three days, ranging from 400m foot races to a 56km ultra-marathon. Whatever your fitness or competitive level - and no matter whether you're walking or running - the festival has a distance to suit everyone. Today the Festival will kick off at 12:00 noon, where runners will have the choice of a 14km, 28km or 42km full marathon course. And tonight, volunteers will be preparing a Good Friday pasta meal with a vegetarian option for participants and guests ($15 per head). Free camping is available at the Sports Grounds if you'd like to stay the full weekend. Yarraman Walk Of Faith
The annual inter-denominational "Yarraman Walk Of Faith" will be held in Yarraman today, commencing with a brief service at 10:00am at the Calvary Lutheran Church at 14 McDaniell Street, Yarraman. After this, marchers will proceed to the rest of Yarraman's churches (ie Our Lady Of Dolours Catholic church, St Philips' Anglican Church and the Uniting Church) before concluding with tea, coffee and hot cross buns. This Good Friday walk - which has been running in Yarraman for decades - embraces all the town's churches, and everyone is welcome to attend this community celebration of Easter. An offering plate will be in place if you'd like to make a donation towards expenses, and transport will be available for those who are unable to undertake the walks between churches.

Nanango Easter Saturday Race Meeting
The Nanango Race Club will be holding their Easter Saturday Race Meeting at the Lee Park Raceway in Racecourse Road just south of Nanango from 10:00am to around 5:00pm today. Today's races will have an "Easter Bonnets and Top Hats" theme and everyone is encouraged to dress up in their best Easter outfits and/or accessories to be in the running for some great Moffatdale Ridge Fashions Of The Field spot prizes. The race club's popular Pink Champagne Bar will be serving up platters all day if you fancy a bite; a licensed bar and BBQ will be operating under the extended covered area; the race club canteen will be open for sit-down dining; and there'll be plenty of bookmakers and an on-course tote available in the betting ring to take your wagers. There's also plenty of undercover seating and lots of parking on course. Monogorilby Camp Oven Comedy Night
The annual Monogorilby Camp Oven Comedy Night will be held at Monogorilby Hall 45km north-west of Boondooma from 10:00am this morning through until the same time tomorrow. Nanango Panthers Movie Night
POSTPONED: The Nanango Panthers will be holding a free Outdoor Movie Night at the Burnett Street sports fields in Nanango from 5:00pm this evening (movie screening starts at 6:00pm). The night's feature movie is the recently-released animated classic How To Train Your Dragon III - The Hidden World (rated PG), the heart-warming tale of how Toothless the dragon finally met his mate and how he, his human partner Hiccup and Hiccup's feisty fiancee Astrid went on to liberate dragons everywhere. This beautiful film is the final in a trio of How To Train Your Dragon movies. It was only released in cinemas this January, and it scored a high 88 to 91 out of 100 rating from movie review site Rotten Tomatoes. Proston Easter Parade
Here's something else that's really different! The Proston QCWA will be holding an Easter Parade from 9:30am to 11:30am in Proston this morning. The parade will assemble at the Baptist Church at 9:30am and then travel along Blake Street to the QCWA Rooms in Railway Park around 10:00am. There'll be prizes for the best-decorated floats of any description (ie cars, trucks, tractors, horse and cart, scooters, walkers and bicycles) and also the best fancy dress costume. Parade fees are just $2 to take part, or 50c for a small float or bike. Afterwards there'll be a morning of fun games including thong-tossing, egg and spoon races, a scavenger hunt and the awesome Proston Regatta (see above), wrapping up with an Easter hat competition at around 11:00am. AGL Kumbia Charity Campdraft
The first day of the two-day Kumbia & District Charity Campdraft will be held at the Kumbia Sportsgrounds off Bell Street in Kumbia from early this morning when the canteen opens and begins serving up Big Country Breakfasts through until late this afternoon. This year's Campdraft will have a bumper field of competitors and will be offering some really great Easter campdrafting action, with today's competitions focussing on an Open draft and a combined Maiden/Novice draft offering a combined $5600 in cash prizes. Proston Regatta In The Park
Here's something different! No need to travel to the Territory for the Henley on Todd Regatta - the Proston Round Table, the Coverty Creek Social Club, Mondure District Rural Fire Brigade and the South Burnett Regional Council will be holding their own Regatta In The Park at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston from 10:00am this morning following the Proston QCWA's Easter Parade and markets (see below). To be part of the Regatta, participants simply need to hire a pretend boat for $2.50 per race (children aged 4-7 can hire an inflatable for free) and take part in a range of fun, non-competitive, gender-neutral events in the park with the chance to win some great prizes. Spectators can enjoy the entertainment, too (there's no admission fee). Easter Saturday Grocery Shopping
If you need to restock the larder over the Easter break, today is the best day to do it. All the region's supermarkets will be open today and trading until late afternoon or evening. But if you overlook something essential, there's no need to panic - most supermarkets will be open tomorrow and Monday as well (except for Woolworths and Aldi in Kingaroy, which will both be closed on Sunday and Monday).

Western Dressage & Ranch Pattern Clinic - Nanango
The South Burnett Western Performance Club will be holding a Western Dressage & Ranch Pattern Clinic at their club house in Racecourse Road, Nanango from 8:30am today for beginner to intermediate riders. In the morning, the focus will be on correct riding techniques including rider position (legs, hands, seat and posture) and how this influences the horse in terms of tempo, straightness, impulsion and collection, all with a view to maximising points in a test. This clinic will give riders the opportunity to ride a test and have one of Australia’s leading judges critique their strengths and improvement areas and provide invaluable insights about how to build skills in this exact discipline. Wondai Autumn Garden Expo
The first day of the weekend long Wondai Autumn Garden Expo will be held at the Wondai Sports Grounds off the Bunya Highway just north of Wondai's CBD from 8:00am this morning through until 4:30pm this afternoon. The Expo is one of the largest gardening shows of its type in south-east Queensland, and it always draws hundreds of keen gardeners to Wondai every April. This year (for the tenth year running) it's being held in conjunction with the South Burnett Orchid Society's Annual Show, which will be staged at the nearby Wondai Diggers Club in Mackenzie Street, Wondai from 9:30am to 3:00pm; and the Wondai Art Gallery are also running a special exhibition on a floral theme too - so make sure you check out all three venues! As well as the usual huge range of plant and garden-related product displays, the Expo will also feature a number of interesting and well-informed guest speakers talking on a variety of gardening topics throughout the day. Maidenwell Running Festival
The second day of the 5th annual Maidenwell Running Festival (formerly known as the Maidenwell Marathon) will be held at the Maidenwell Sportsgrounds today. As the name suggests, the Marathon is for runners and walkers and there will be 12 events over three days, ranging from 400m foot races to a 56km ultra-marathon. Whatever your fitness or competitive level - and no matter whether you're walking or running - the festival has a distance to suit everyone. Today the Festival will kick off at the Maidenwell Sports Grounds at 6:00am where runners will have the choice of a half marathon, a full marathon or a 56km ultra-marathon course. These will be followed by an 8:00am start for a 10km run; a 9:30am start for a 5km run; and a 10:30am start for a 2.2km children’s run, followed by a Beer Mile Championship at 3:00pm. And tonight, everyone is welcome along to the Maidenwell Hotel for one of their famous pig-on-a-spit nights plus live music. BVRT Easter Adventure Ride - Blackbutt
The Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Users Association will be hosting a 45km BVRT Easter Adventure Ride of about 45km, departing from the Blackbutt Visitor Information Centre in Hart Street, Blackbutt around 7:00am and proceeding down the Blackbutt Range. The ride will combine the Allery Track with the BVRT and Rohlmann's track across a challenging mix of rutted forestry tracks, gravel roads, some asphalt, about 50 metres of hike-a-bike through a deep creek gully, and an old historic track down an open ridge, finishing at the Old Church Gallery in Moore for lunch. The ride is suitable for mountain bikes and gravel bikes only, is fully supported, and the $35 registration fee includes transport back up to Blackbutt by Out There Cycling (lunch is not included, so bring cash). This beautiful film is the final in a trio of How To Train Your Dragon movies. This popular annual campout week features lots of Australia's top bush balladeers and poets (more than 25 will be appearing at the Muster this year) along with walk-up artists. IBRP South Burnett Speedway - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Speedway Club will be holding the first day of a bumper two-day meeting to decide the IBRP SSA National Modified Sedans and Australian Modlites titles at the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy today. Gates will open at 2:00pm and racing will get underway at 4:00pm. This meeting has attracted a top field of speedway driving talent from right around Australia (including multiple national and state title-holders), and a key aim of tonight's racing is to whittle down a field of 95 competitors in the Modified Sedans category to a more manageable number for tomorrow's finals. So spectators can expect thrills and spills aplenty as competitors put the pedal to the metal in order to secure a spot tomorrow. The Hivesville Country Markets will be held at the Hivesville Sports Grounds from 7:00am to around 1:00pm today. 2019 Kingaroy Eisteddfod
The 2019 Kingaroy Eisteddfod - one of the oldest in Australia, and the oldest in Queensland - will get underway at the Kingaroy Performing Arts Centre in Markwell Street, Kingaroy at 9:30am this morning. As usual, competitors will be coming from all over south-east Queensland to take part in this year's Eisteddfod, and today's activities will focus on senior dancers from private dance groups and school dance groups. The Eisteddfod will continue until May 9 with dance solos, duos and trios being judged from April 29 to May 3; music from May 6 to 8; and speech and drama on May 9. Spectators are very welcome!

Bunya Mountains Markets
The monthly Bunya Mountains Markets will be running at Dandabah in the Bunya Mountains today. The markets feature up to 30 stands selling quality, locally-produced fresh produce, arts and crafts and they'll be operating from 9:00am to 2:00pm.
