Kilkivan Railway Markets
The weekly Kilkivan Railway Markets will be held in Lester Millar Park in Kilkivan from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon this morning. Kumbia Museum
The Kumbia and District Historical Society's museum, located in the Federation Heritage Centre behind Kumbia Hall in Bell Street, will be open from 1:30pm to 3:30pm this afternoon. Maidenwell Running Festival
The third and final day of the 4th annual Maidenwell Running Festival (formerly known as the Maidenwell Marathon) will be held at Maidenwell today. As the name suggests, the Marathon is for runners and walkers, and today will offer the biggest choice of events, ranging from a half or full marathon that starts at 6:00am; a 10km run at 7:00am; a 5km run at 8:15am; and a 2.2km run at 9:15am. All runs will start and finish at the Maidenwell Sports Ground, and while they're happening there'll be an Easter Egg hunt and other fun activities for children. The Festival will conclude with the annual Maidenwell Bull Ride (see entry below). Free camping is also available at the Sports Grounds if you'd like to stay the full weekend. AGL Kumbia & District Charity Campdraft
The second day of the three-day Kumbia & District Charity Campdraft will be held at the Kumbia Sports Grounds off Bell Street in Kumbia from 6:00am this morning when the canteen opens and begins serving up Big Country Breakfasts through until late this afternoon. This year's Campdraft will have a bumper field of competitors and will be offering some really great Easter campdrafting action. Today's action will feature the continuation of yesterday's Novice first round; the finals of the Restricted Open and Novice drafts; a Junior draft; a Juvenile draft; the second round and final of the Open draft; and the first round of the Maiden draft, followed by a BBQ dinner in the canteen. Admission to the campdraft is 100% free for spectators. There's also free overnight camping in the Sports Grounds all weekend if you want to stay over. Everyone is welcome! More details? Sunday Poker - Kingaroy
Sunday afternoon poker games will be played at Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street, Kingaroy today. Registrations start at 2:00pm and play begins at 2:30pm. All games are free to play and there are prizes for first, second and third. More details? Phone the RSL on (07) 4162-1755

Maidenwell Bull Ride
The annual Maidenwell Bull Ride will be held behind the Maidenwell Hotel from 5:00pm until late tonight to wrap up the three-day Maidenwell Running Festival. There'll also be a barbecue dinner available at the hotel, and after the bull ride winds down there'll be live music performed by Boots’n'Bandits, a top flight band that recently performed in Tamworth, playing until late tonight. There's an admission fee to get in to see the Bull Ride, which runs in a restricted access area ($15 for adults, $10 for high school students, or $40 for a family, but primary school age and younger children are free) and there's no admission fee if you just want to see the band. Free camping and hot showers are available in the hotel's grounds too. Timbertowns Woodworkers - Blackbutt
The Timbertown Woodworkers group will be holding their regular Sunday morning meeting at the Blackbutt Showgrounds in Bowman Road, Blackbutt from 8:30am until around 12:00 noon today. Easter Monday Public Holiday
Today is Easter Monday, a public holiday. Most South Burnett businesses will be either closed or operating on restricted hours today, but some community groups will be operating as normal. If you plan on attending anything today, we suggest you phone in advance to confirm the event is running and not taking a brief Easter vacation.

Tuesday Morning Card Games - Yarraman

Kilkivan Great Horse Ride
The 2018 Kilkivan Great Horse Ride will kick off today with a "Dinner Under The Kilkivan Moon" at a secret location in the Kilkivan area. For $70 per head, guests can enjoy a complimentary welcome drink followed by a deluxe 3-course meal prepared by famous chef Matt Golinski and a live performance of the original song ‘Kilkivan Moon’ by local artists Mark and Marnie Burgess. Kilkivan Great Horse Ride
The fourth (and major) day of the expanded, five day 2018 Kilkivan Great Horse Ride will kick off at 7:00am this morning when participants line up at the Kilkivan Showgrounds for the 31km Kurandah Trail ride, the second of the Festival's four rides. This will be followed at 9:00am by horses pulling carriages when participants assemble at Weier Oval for the Oakview Carriage Trail. For non-riders, though, the day will really get underway at 9:30am there'll be a black powder shooting demonstration at the Kilkivan Range, and back in Bligh Street at the Kilkivan Public Hall, a $10 per head Line Dancing Social will run from 10:00am to 3:30pm along with a program of free street entertainment in Bligh Street from 11:00am to 4:00pm. At noon, one final batch of riders will assemble at the Showgrounds for the 15km Landcare Olympic Park Trail (the Festival's fourth and final ride) before riders from all the day's three trails meet up at the end of Bligh Street for the Grand Parade at 4:00pm. The day will be capped off with a free Tom Grady Campfire Concert at the Showgrounds featuring the Whisky Mountain Boys, a mechanical bull, jumping castle, auction and talent quest final that will run from 6:00pm until midnight. So far this season, United have won three games and drawn one, which puts them narrowly on top of the table, while Chinchilla occupy 5th spot. The second round of the South Burnett's 2018 rugby league competition will get underway at the Murgon Showgrounds at 5:00pm tonight when the Murgon Mustangs play the Wondai Wolves in A-grade. South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip
Noosaville's Outbike Australia will be running a South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip for cyclists today. The day trip will pick up participants at Noosa, Noosaville and Gympie and will offer three options: an easy ride from Kingaroy to Murgon (45km sealed); a hard ride from Murgon to Kilkivan (45km unsealed); and an extreme 90km ride from Kingaroy to Kilkivan. Bus fares are $120 return from Noosa, and bikes can be hired for $20 if you don't have your own. Wondai Autumn Garden Expo
The first day of the weekend long Wondai Autumn Garden Expo will be held at the Wondai Sports Grounds off the Bunya Highway just north of Wondai's CBD from 8:00am this morning through until 4:30pm this afternoon. The Expo is one of the largest gardening shows of its type in south-east Queensland, and it always draws hundreds of keen gardeners to Wondai every April. Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street in Kingaroy will be playing host to an FFA Cup match between the South Burnett and University Of Southern Queensland at 1:00pm this afternoon. The FFA competition is now down to four Darling Downs teams and the South Burnett is one of them, so it should be an exciting match. Manumbar Campdraft
The third (and final) day of the three day 2018 Manumbar Campdraft will be held at the Manumbar Campdraft Grounds, kicking off around 6:30am this morning and continuing until 5:00pm in the afternoon. Wondai Autumn Garden Expo
The second (and final) day of the weekend long Wondai Autumn Garden Expo will be held at the Wondai Sports Grounds off the Bunya Highway just north of Wondai's CBD from 8:00am this morning through until 1:00pm this afternoon. The Expo is one of the largest gardening shows of its type in south-east Queensland, and it always draws hundreds of keen gardeners to Wondai every April. The Wondai Art Gallery are also running a special exhibition on a floral theme too - so make sure you check out both venues! As well as the usual huge range of plant and garden-related product displays, the Expo will also feature a number of interesting and well-informed guest speakers talking on a variety of gardening topics throughout the day. Spirit Of The Bush Balladeers Muster - Boondooma
The first day of the five-day Spirit Of The Bush Balladeers & Heritage Muster will be held at Boondooma Homestead at 8262 Durong-Mundubbera Road, Boondooma today. This popular annual campout week features lots of Australia's top bush balladeers and poets (more than 50 will be appearing at the Muster this year) along with walk-up artists. The Muster routinely attracts 700 to 800 caravanners plus day-trippers, and in addition to bucketloads of non-stop great music there'll also be great camp oven meals, a licensed bar, BBQ, stalls, displays of vintage cars and engines, photography and historical items. Admission to today's Muster is $15, and activities will kick off with a bush poet's breakfast followed by an Anzac Day service at 9:00am before the entertainment gets underway. Wondai Anzac Day Race Meeting
The South Burnett Race Club will be holding their 45th Anzac Day Race Meeting at the Wondai race track in Baynes Street today in aid of Legacy. Today's meeting will feature an on-course TAB; live telecasts of interstate races and interstate betting fluctuations; a vigorous undercover betting ring; a great BBQ and bar; the Lady Luck Cocktail Bar; and a card of five races. Gates will open at 11:00am and the first race will leave the barriers at around 1:45pm. Everyone is welcome and admission is $10. Anzac Day
Today is Anzac Day, a national public holiday when the nation pauses to remember the sacrifices of tens of thousands of Australians who have fought for the democratic principles our country is committed to in conflicts all over the world. Most South Burnett businesses will either be closed completely today or operating on restricted hours (ie from noon onwards) as a mark of respect. Anzac Day commemorative services will be held throughout the region from 4:27am onwards: the same time the original Anzacs began their assault on the beaches of Gallipoli 103 years ago. Here's where they'll be held:

  • Blackbutt-Benarkin will be marking Anzac Day with a Dawn Service at the Memorial at the corner of Hart and Coulson Streets at 4:27am; and then a Commemoration service at the Coulson Street memorial at 11:00am.

  • Boondooma and Durong will hold a commemoration and wreath-laying service at 9:00am at Boondooma Homestead at 8262 Durong-Mundubbera Road.

  • Bunya Mountains will hold a wreath-laying service at the Lone Pine in the Dandabah camping area at 8:00am.

  • Cherbourg will hold a Commemoration Service at 8:00am, followed by a morning tea at the Ration Shed Museum.

  • Hivesville will hold at Dawn Service in Main Street at 5:30am, followed by a community breakfast in Anzac Park opposite the Hivesville Hotel

  • Kingaroy will hold a Dawn Service at the rotunda in Memorial Park at 4:28am, followed by a pilgrimage to the War Service Graves at Taabinga Cemetery at 8:00am. At 10:30am, marchers taking part in the annual march should assemble at Kingaroy RSL for an 11:00am march to Memorial Park, where there will be a citizen's observance at 11:15am.

  • Kumbia will mark Anzac Day with a march. Marchers should assemble at the flower garden at the northern end of Bell Street at 8:45am for a step off, which will be followed by a Commemoration Service at 9:00am.

  • Maidenwell will mark Anzac Day with a QCWA morning tea at Maidenwell Hall at 9:30am, followed by a wreath laying at the Maidenwell War Memorial at 10:30am.

  • Murgon will hold a fellowship at the Murgon RSL Club at 4:45am, followed by a Dawn Service at the Murgon War Memorial at 5:30am. Marchers in the annual parade should assemble in the RSL's rear car park at 9:00am for a 9:45am step off, which will be followed by a Commemoration Service and wreath laying at the Memorial at 10:00am.

  • Nanango will hold a fellowship for RSL Sub-branch members and their families, visiting veterans and ex defence personnel at Taras Hall at 5:00am, then a march from the RSL to the Memorial at 5:20am, where a Dawn Service will be held at 5:30am. This will be followed by a pilgrimage to the Veterans Graves at Nanango Cemetery at 7:00am. Participants in the annual Anzac Day march should assemble in Howlett Lane at 8:15am for an 8:45am step off, followed by a Commemoration Service at the War Memorial at the corner of Drayton and Henry Streets at 9:00am.

  • Proston will hold a Dawn Service at the Proston RSL Rooms in Collingwood Street at 5:30am.

  • Wondai will hold a Dawn Service at 5:00am, which will be accompanied by a march from the Post Office along Mackenzie Street to the War Memorial. At 8:00am there will be a pilgrimage to the War Service Graves at the Wondai Cemetery, followed by a 10:00am Commemoration Service, wreath laying and procession at the War Memorial outside Wondai Town Hall.

  • Wooroolin will hold a parade at 11:00am, followed by a Commemoration Service at the Wooroolin Memorial Hall at 11:15am.

  • Yarraman will hold a Dawn Service at the Cenotaph in Memorial Park at 6:00am, followed by a pilgrimage to the War Service Graves at 7:30am. At 10:45am, marchers should assemble to attend the main service at the Cenotaph at 11:00am for a commemorative service, which will be followed by a community lunch at Yarraman's Memorial Hall in Browne Street.

  • Cooyar will mark Anzac Day with a march from Cooyar Public Hall at 9:45am to the Cooyar War Memorial for a service at 10:00am, which will be followed by a community morning tea at the Cooyar Hotel.

  • Widgee will hold a Dawn Service at 6:00am at the Widgee Cenotaph, followed by a 7:00am breakfast at the Memorial Hall, and then an Anzac Day Parade leaving from principal's residence next to Widgee School at 8:30am. The main commemoration service will commence immediately after the parade ends.

Social Golf - Blackbutt
The Blackbutt Golf Club at 51 Langton Road, Blackbutt will be running their weekly Sporters's Club game at 3:00pm this afternoon. Spirit Of The Bush Balladeers Muster - Boondooma
The third day of the five-day Spirit Of The Bush Balladeers & Heritage Muster will be held at Boondooma Homestead at 8262 Durong-Mundubbera Road, Boondooma today. This popular annual campout event features lots of Australia's top bush balladeers and poets (more than 50 will be appearing at the Muster this year) along with walk-up artists. The Muster routinely attracts 700 to 800 caravanners plus day-trippers, and in addition to bucketloads of non-stop great music there'll also be great camp oven meals, a licensed bar, BBQ, stalls, displays of vintage cars and engines, photography and historical items. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip
Noosaville's Outbike Australia will be running a South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip for cyclists today. The day trip will pick up participants at Noosa, Noosaville and Gympie and will offer three options: an easy ride from Kingaroy to Murgon (45km sealed); a hard ride from Murgon to Kilkivan (45km unsealed); and an extreme 90km ride from Kingaroy to Kilkivan. Bus fares are $120 return from Noosa, and bikes can be hired for $20 if you don't have your own. South Burnett locals are also welcome to take part, and there's $40 rider and bike transfers from Kilkivan to Kingaroy available if you need help getting back home. More details? Polocrosse Carnival - Tansey
The Tansey Polocrosse Club will be hosting a two day carnival at the Tansey Polocrosse Grounds off the Burnett Highway at Tansey this weekend. This will be a multi-horse event where riders can ride multiple horses rather than just one, and competitors are expected to travel from all over the state to attend. 109th Annual Nanango Show
The main public day of the 109th Annual Nanango Show will get underway at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street, Nanango at 7:00am this morning when the gates open and prime cattle judging begins. This will be followed by horse events and stud cattle judging (8:00am); barrel racing and rodeo events in the main ring (10:00am); and chainsawing and wood chopping events, along with a fashion parade in the canteen area (11:00am). The Show's official opening will occur at 1:30pm and will be followed by trotting (2:00pm); woodchops (3:00pm); a rodeo (3:00pm to 5:30pm); a hypnotist (5:00pm) and mini trots (5:30pm). Other features of this year's Show to look out for include a big Sideshow Alley, lots of great amusement rides, vintage midget cars, a Dexter Cattle Show, live music by Jeff Hancox and Arthur Nettelfield, Quilts Of Love, a sculpture and firewood auction and the great Heritage Nanango fireworks display in the evening. The fourth round of the South Burnett's 2018 soccer competition will be held at Nanango and Kingaroy today. In Nanango, home team Panthers will play the Barambah Bears at the Burnett Street sports fields, with the Women's Division hitting the park at 1:00pm, followed by the Men's Division at 3:00pm. And in Kingaroy, Gunners will play Wests at Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street, with the Women's Division hitting the park at 4:00pm, followed by the Men's Division playing under lights at 6:00pm.
