Art Exhibition Opening - Wondai
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery on the roundabout at Wondai will be opening their latest monthly exhibition for 2020 with a wine and cheese tasting at 6:00pm tonight. This month the gallery will be hosting the 22nd annual South Burnett Regional Art Competition, which showcases works in art, photography, sculpture and ceramics categories created exclusively by South Burnett artists. The competition offers $8000 in prize monies, including a $3000 South Burnett Acquisitive sponsored by the South Burnett Regional Council, and is the biggest art competition of its kind in the region. As usual, tonight's opening will also feature great hot and cold finger foods and punch, along with wine tastings from a South Burnett winery, live entertainment and lots of fun socialising. Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets, but they'll be operating in a COVID Safe way. South Burnett author Chrys McDuffie will be launching her children's book "Daddy's Little Hero" at Memorial Park in Haly Street, Kingaroy between 11:00am and 1:00pm today. Guests can meet the firies, wildlife carers and animals that inspired the book as well as enjoy a sausage sizzle with Chrys' family and friends and meet the book's illustrator Amber Fitz-Herbert (a 17-year-old local high school student) along with Amber's father Rob and younger sister Lily, who jointly composed and recorded a supporting song and music video for the book. Saturday Cricket
The South Burnett's cricket season is now under way, and today local teams will be playing everywhere from Murgon to Nanango. In A Grade, Murgon Crusaders will play the Southern District Devils at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy at 9:30am. Then they'll travel back to Murgon to play Gympie Valleys at the Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street from 1:30pm (yes, it's a big day for the Crusaders). In B Grade, Cherbourg will play Murgon Diggers at Murgon State High School; Kingaroy Services will play the Warriors at Taabinga State School in Kingaroy; and Kumbia will play Wondai at the Kumbia Sportsgrounds in Gordon Street, Kumbia (all matches start at noon). Finally - in Juniors - Kingaroy will play Nanango at Taabinga State School in the Stage 3 competition, while Stage 2 players will take part in a muster game at the Nanango Sportsgrounds in Burnett Street. Spectators are welcome at all matches but must observe proper social distancing.

League fans who've been feeling a bit left out this year can start to get back into the swing of things today with four pre-season trial matches being held at Jack O'Chin Oval at the end of Broadway Street, Cherbourg. The action will kick off at 12:50pm with an U13s match between the Cherbourg Hornets and Sunshine Coast Bunyas. This will be followed at 2:10pm with an U15s match between South Burnett Development and the Sunshine Coast Bunyas, and then a 3:30pm with an U17s clash between the Cherbourg Hornets and the Sunshine Coast Bunyas. After this, the day will end with an A-grade match between the Hornets and Sunshine Coast Bunyas at 4:50pm. Queensland State Election
The Queensland State Election will be held today to decide which party will run the state for the coming 4 years. With COVID still an issue, this election has been a little different to previous years, with many people choosing to use pre-polling or postal voting options to avoid the crowds. Depending on where you live in the region you'll be voting for your preferred representative in Nanango, Callide or Gympie state electorates. Halloween At The Shed - Nanango
POSTPONED: Tonight is Halloween, and the 7th annual Halloween Night will be held at The Shed in Little Drayton Street, Nanango (just next to the Scott Car Park) from sunset onwards (ie about 6:30pm to 7:00pm). Children wearing the scariest outfits will be in the running to win trophies for their efforts, and The Shed will be providing a suitably spooky backdrop with its usual over-the-top Halloween display. Due to COVID restrictions there won't be a free sausage sizzle, costume parade or scary dance competition this year, but all children will receive an ice block and a bag of sweets for attending. Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held weekly. Make It A Date - Nanango
SOLD OUT: The Nanango Theatre Company will be presenting the fifth (and final) performance of their first show for 2020 at their playhouse in Elk Street, Nanango at 7:00pm tonight. The new show is "Make It A Date" and is a collection of four one-act plays: “Blind Date”, by Peter Quilter; “Short Term Affairs”, by Donna Spector; “Pastiche”, by Nick Hall; and “The Un-Cucumber Man”, by Ian Austin.
