Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and routinely attract 320 to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? South Burnett & Cherbourg On Show
The South Burnett & Cherbourg On Show October long weekend festival of events will get into full swing today, with 17 different events all around the region ranging from the Yhurri Gurri Arts & Culture Festival at Cherbourg to the South Burnett Community Orchestra's concert at Kingaroy Town Hall, the Maidenwell Folk Festival and the Xtreme Rodeo at Cooyar. Hatchy's Memorial Golf Day - Kingaroy
Hatchy's Memorial Golf Day will be held at the Kingaroy Golf Club on the Bunya Highway south-west of town this afternoon. The event is a 3-person ambrose over 9 holes held in memory of Adam Hatch, and it will kick off with a BBQ lunch at noon, followed by a shotgun start at 2:30pm. Green fees are $15 per head and there'll be prizes for the winners as well as novelty prizes. Art In The Park - Nanango
POSTPONED: The official unveiling of this year's "Art In The Park" murals will be held at Pioneer Park in Nanango today. More details will be published as they become available. Note: This event was postponed to a new date yet to be fixed on Monday, September 25.

Jazz On The Platform - Yarraman
"Jazz On The Platform" will be held at Station Park in Millar Street, Yarraman from 3:00pm to 6:00pm today to kick off this year's Colours Of Yarraman festival. The Greg Bird Band will play swing jazz and popular favourites, and the entry fee is a plate of food to share at a long table, plus your own chair. If you're heading up to the Bunya Mountains today, go via Maidenwell and you can browse the Maidenwell Markets at the Maidenwell Sportsgrounds (just next to the Rural Fire Brigade HQ in the heart of town) between 8:00am and 12:00 noon this morning. These markets offer a range of arts and crafts, local produce, plants, home baking, bric-a-brac, sauces, jams, chutneys, coffee, food and lots more (there's even a jumping castle for children). South Burnett Tabletop Gamers is a small but passionate tabletop games club servicing the South Burnett. Members' core interests usually cover a wide range of board, card and miniatures games, but the group is always on the lookout for new games to play. The final term of the 2016 school year begins today and all school-age children attending State schools are required to return to class this morning. Motorists should take note that reduced speed limits around school grounds also begin to apply from today and they can face a steep fine for exceeding them - so drive slowly. A torch relay for the 2016 Australasian Police & Emergency Services Games will pass through Kingaroy’s CBD today, starting at the Alford Street police station at noon, then travelling down Alford Street to Glendon Street, Haly Street and William Street before finishing at the Kingaroy State School oval with a display of emergency services vehicles. The Murgon Men's Shed at 75 Macalister Street in Murgon will be offering free stroke checks today. If you're over 40, a smoker, overweight, diabetic, have high blood pressure or have a family history of strokes you may be at risk of a stroke yourself. South Burnett Pantry - Tablelands
The South Burnett Pantry will be open from noon to 2:30pm today at Tablelands Hall in Tablelands. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). 2016 Relay For Life - Kingaroy
The South Burnett's annual Relay For Life fundraiser will be held on the main oval at the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Steet, Kingaroy from 3:00pm this afternoon right through until 9:00am tomorrow morning. The Captains Dinner earlier this year took the fundraising total for the South Burnett Relay For Life to more than $1 million for the decade - an amazing effort - but organisers are hoping to raise even more this weekend from the overnight walkathon. Spectators are very welcome to come along and cheer the walkers on as they march around the ring (and around... and around again...). The Relay's annual Candlelight Ceremony - held in remembrance of friends and relatives lost to cancer - will be held about 6:30pm this evening. The first major day of the four-day Waterhole Rocks rock 'n' roll campout weekend will roar into life at the Nanango Showgrounds this afternoon and continue on until late tonight. This includes hot rods, custom cars, vintage caravans, driving games and dance lessons, all backed up by red hot rock 'n' roll acts. Cooyar Trail Bike Ride
The annual Cooyar Trail Bike Ride - a fundraiser for the Cooyar State School P&C - will be held in and around the Cooyar Showgrounds on the Cooyar Rangemore Road, Cooyar today and tomorrow. Today's events will kick off with a compulsory rider briefing at 10:00am, followed by riding around the loop from 10:15am to 3:00pm. If you're a participant, an MQ Day Licence will set you back $10 and entry fees are $65 in the Open class, $40 for Sunday riders only, $20 for Novices or $10 for Pee Wees, but spectators are welcome to come watch the action for free. There'll also be free on-site camping in the grounds on Friday and Saturday (with showers and toilets), but you'll need to BYO water and lights, and glass and dogs are forbidden. Another highlight of today's meeting will be a cheque presentation to Legacy of the proceeds of the club's incredibly popular Anzac Day Races. Blackbutt Community Dinner-Dance
A special Community Dinner Dance will be held at the Blackbutt Showgrounds in Bowman Road, Blackbutt from 5:30pm until late this evening as a final fundraiser for the soon-to-be unveiled Roy Emerson statue. For $25 per head, guests can enjoy a main of pig on a spit or lamb and vegetables, followed by dessert, tea and coffee; live entertainment by the South Burnett's favourite indigenous dance band Muddy Flats; a licensed bar; and a talk by special guest speaker, former Australian tennis star Daphne Fancutt. Waterhole Rocks Festival - Nanango
The second (and main) day of the four-day Waterhole Rocks rock 'n' roll campout weekend will roar into life at the Nanango Showgrounds from early this morning and continue on until late tonight. The festival is devoted to all things associated with 1950s and 1960s rock 'n' roll. This includes hot rods, custom cars, vintage caravans, driving games and dance lessons, all backed up by red hot rock 'n' roll acts. Today the South Burnett's very own Elvis Jeff Hancox and Heartbeat will be performing throughout the day. There'll also be competitions, trade stalls, dance lessons, grass driving out on the main show ring and lots of fun to be had before things step up a notch at 6:30pm with rock & roll band Old 45s playing until late - just perfect if you're looking for a rock & roll Saturday night out, complete with dancing on the Festival's special rock 'n' roll dance floor! SOLD OUT: Dusty Hill Vineyard at 80 Waterview Drive in Moffatdale will be holding their sixth annual Dusty Day Out in their grounds today. QCWA Nighttime Country Kitchens - Kingaroy
The final workshop for the new night-time QCWA Country Kitchens will be held at the Kingaroy QCWA Hall in Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy at 5:30pm this evening (the workshop starts at 6:00pm and runs until 8:00pm). This new program from the QCWA teaches participants how to cook healthy foods in a fun environment, and also provides qualified food and nutrition advice along the way. There are five monthly workshops in the full $50 course, and all participants receive a shopping bag, apron, tea-towel and nutrition information along with a cooked meal at the end of each workshop they can either eat for dinner or take home with them. Art Workshop - Blackbutt
An art workshop with well-known artist Cary "Gus" McAulay will be held at Nukku Nook at the end of Hart Street, Blackbutt from 4:00pm to 6:00pm this afternoon. The focus of the workshop will be on creating designs and artworks for the Stanwell Connecting Heart to Hart Project, where your painting will be transferred to a ceramic tile that will become part of the Scott Haven community space and gardens. All art materials are provided for today's workshop, including a mini canvas for your painting that you get to keep. Take To The Track Challenge - Nanango
If you like racing, the South Burnett Go-Kart Track on the D'Aguilar Highway just south of Nanango is the place to be today. Local police are holding a "Take To The Track Challenge" charity fundraiser from 9:00am to 5:00pm, and you'll be able to race against the police to your heart's content. There'll also be road safety displays, an impaired/distracted driving simulator, a jumping castle and a sausage sizzle. Everyone is welcome! Note: This event was originally scheduled for September 18, but had to be postponed at the last minute due to wet weather.
