The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). Art Exhibition Opening - Wondai
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery on the roundabout at Wondai will be opening their eighth monthly exhibition for 2015 with a wine and cheese tasting at 6:00pm tonight. This month the gallery will be hosting the 17th annual South Burnett Regional Art Competition, which showcases works in art, photography, sculpture and ceramics categories created exclusively by South Burnett artists. The competition offers $4800 in prize monies, including a $1500 South Burnett Acquisitive sponsored by the South Burnett Regional Council, and is the biggest art competition of its kind in the region. Tonight's opening will also launch this year's South Burnett & Cherbourg On Show long weekend festival of events, and it will be followed by the festival's Sample The South Burnett & Cherbourg Dinner across the road at the 101-year-old Wondai Hotel & Cellar (see entry below). As usual, tonight's opening will also feature great hot and cold finger foods and punch, along with wine tastings from a South Burnett winery, live entertainment and lots of fun socialising. The Sample The South Burnett & Cherbourg Dinner will be held at the Wondai Hotel & Cellar In Haly Street, Wondai from 7:30pm until late tonight. The dinner is the official launch event for this year's South Burnett & Cherbourg On Show long weekend festival of events, and guests will get to tuck into a gourmet dinner of locally produced foods and wines in the historic hotel, as well as enjoy live music by some of our region's best indigenous musicians. Noel Miller Art Exhibition - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Art Gallery in Haly Street, Kingaroy (right next to the Visitor Information Centre) will be showing artworks by Brisbane artist Noel Miller between 10:00am and 4:00pm today. The exhibition has drawn rave reviews since it opened and its display time has been extended to 2:00pm on Monday as part of this year's South Burnett & Cherbourg On Show long weekend festival of events. Maidenwell Folk Festival
If your tastes lean more towards folk than art or gourmet dinners, you should get along to the historic Maidenwell Hotel today. The twice-a-year Maidenwell Folk Festival will be getting into its first full day of activities with lots of informal jam sessions and chalk-boarding sessions that will start early in the day and continue until late tonight on the hotel's spacious verandahs. Maidenwell Hotel publican Spud and the team will be serving up great pub grub along with an array of cleansing ales. Admission to the Festival is free and there's also free camping on the adjoining Maidenwell sports field if you want to stay overnight or take your full long weekend vacation in the town. Cooyar Campdraft
The first day of the two-day Cooyar Campdraft will be running at the Cooyar campdrafting grounds off the New England Highway just west of the town from early this morning through until late tonight. This twice-yearly campdraft always draws large numbers of competitors and this year it will be featuring an Open Draft, Novice Draft, Maiden Draft, Junior Draft, Juvenile Draft and a Local Challenge Draft. Admission to the campdraft is 100% free for spectators, and tonight the campdraft will also be hosting a free concert (from 7:00pm onwards) with music provided by popular local entertainer John Kohler. Maidenwell Folk Festival
The major day of the twice-a-year Maidenwell Folk Festival will be held in and around the historic Maidenwell Hotel in Maidenwell today, kicking off at around 9:30am and running late into the night. This is an all-acoustic event and during the day a wide variety of performers will be entertaining on an outdoor stage set up at the rear of the hotel. In the evening, the action will move onto the hotel's wide verandahs and indoors. Admission to the Folk Festival is completely free and you can read more about it on our website.

At The Wineries
Three of the South Burnett's wineries will be running special events today. At Moffatdale, Moffatdale Ridge will be holding a "Sax On The Ridge" session with top saxophonist Tom McKenzie, who'll be laying down some smooth grooves while guests sip a wine or take in a morning or afternoon tea or lunch. Cranes will be open from 10:00am to 4:00pm today serving wines and platters, with the popular Guy Davis providing music between 10:00am and 2:00pm. Read more about this here. Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and routinely attract 320 to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Cultural Concert At Yallakool
Yallakool Tourist Park at Bjelke-Petersen Dam will be holding a free Cultural Concert from 6:00pm to 9:00pm this evening, featuring the South Burnett's most popular indigenous band Muddy Flats, along with the Wakka Wakka Dancers. The Flats will be playing their stylish mix of country and rock and roll classics and everyone is welcome along, whether they're camping at Yallakool for a weekend of fishing or just want to pop in for a great concert under the stars. The 2015 South Burnett Regional Art Competition Exhibition, which was officially opened at the Wondai Regional Art Gallery on the roundabout at Wondai last night, will be on display at the Gallery today between 10:00am and 4:00pm. This annual competition, which is only open to South Burnett artists, features paintings, sculpture, ceramics and photographic works. High Tea At Dimities Cottage - Wondai

Nanango Stamp Club Meeting
The Nanango Stamp Club will be holding its monthly meeting at 94 Burnett Street, Nanango from 10:00am onwards this morning, followed by a social lunch. The club is the South Burnett's sole affiliated member of the Queensland Philatelic Council, and promotes the hobby of stamp collecting in our region. Queensland Dairy Industry Museum Open Day - Murgon
The Queensland Dairy Industry Museum at 2 Sommerville Street on the southern side of Murgon (just off the Gayndah Road) will be holding an Open Day from 9:30am to 2:00pm today. This big event will offer lots of fun for all the family, including draught horse ploughing, whip cracking, blacksmithing, corn shelling, sheep shearing, milk separating, wash board and copper washing displays; baby farm animals; antique cars; and tours of the Museum's buildings. There'll also be bush poets, live music and lots of children's activities, plus billy tea, damper and food stalls if you get hungry or thirsty. Team Penning Competition - Kilkivan
The Kilkivan Great Horse Ride Association will be holding a two-day Team Penning Competition at Kilkivan Showgrounds today and tomorrow as a fund-raiser. Today's events will kick off at 9:00am with an Open Team competition, and will be followed in the afternoon by a Beginner Team competition, and then a free concert tonight. Food and drinks will be available in the grounds all day and night, and admission is 100% free for spectators. Camping is also available in the grounds for $10 per site, but there won't be any EFTPOS available - so bring cash! Bunya Red Farm at Inverlaw will be holding a Picnic In The Paddock from 10:00am to 3:30pm today. Bunya Red Farm are Queensland's largest producers of capers, and today they'll be running field walks where guests can learn everything they never knew about how capers are grown, picked and processed; try out some of the many ways capers are used; and then cuddle one of the farm's alpacas for good measure if they want to - all for free. South Burnett Kart Hire on the D'Aguilar Highway at Nanango (opposite the Big Bucket) will be hosting an Auskart Racing Weekend from 12:00 noon today until 12:00 noon tomorrow. If you like to watch fast-paced, adrenalin fuelled go kart racing there'll be a lot of action on the track today, and admission for spectators is completely free. Open Day At The Ration Shed Museum - Cherbourg
The Ration Shed Museum in Barambah Avenue, Cherbourg will be holding an Open Day from 10:00am to 2:00pm today. For $10, guests can take a guided tour through the Museum's extensive historical displays and learn all about the history of Cherbourg and the surrounding area. They can also get to see locally-produced, authentic indigenous art and crafts produced in the Museum's arts workshop. Battle Of The Bands - Nanango
The Nanango Funfest Committee, Heritage Bank Nanango and Phantom Studios will be staging a Battle Of The Bands in Pioneer Park, Nanango from 1:00pm to 5:30pm this afternoon. Over a dozen duos and bands from the South Burnett, Bundaberg, Ipswich and the Sunshine Coast will be competing for cash prizes, with each performer limited to just 15 minutes on stage. R&R Rail Trail Duathlon - Blackbutt
Blackbutt will be playing host to more than 100 extra visitors today. They'll be taking part in the 2nd annual R&R Rail Trail Duathlon: a series of running and cycling athletic contests that will take place on the Rail Trail. Competitors in the duathlon have come from all over south east Queensland to participate, and racing will get underway early this morning and conclude towards lunch time. Kingsley Grove Winery at Stuart Valley Drive off the Bunya Highway south-west of Kingaroy will be open from 10:00am to 5:00pm today, and winemaker Simon Berry will be running one hour, completely free Wine Masterclass tours at 10:00am and 3:30pm in the Grove's modern, state of the art winery. The Masterclass will teach you how wine is made and the different factors that go into producing great wines, and they'll include a vertical tasting so you can see how different factors - including ageing - can have a great effect on the end result. Open Day At Taabinga Homestead - Haly Creek
Historic Taabinga Homestead at Haly Creek, south-west of Kingaroy, will be holding an Open Day from 8:30am to 1:00pm today. The Homestead was built in 1846 as one of the area’s pioneering properties, and is one of the oldest continuously-occupied buildings in Queensland, and is now part of the National Estate. The South Burnett Regional Council will be joining other Queensland councils in the LGAQ's Safer Families campaign by holding a number of "No To Domestic Violence" events around the South Burnett today. 2015 Relay For Life - Kingaroy
The South Burnett's annual Relay For Life fundraiser will be held on the main oval at the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Steet, Kingaroy from 3:00pm this afternoon right through until 9:00am tomorrow morning. This year a record 46 teams will be taking part in the all-night walk-a-thon in a bid to raise more than $140,000 for the Queensland Cancer Council, which would bring the South Burnett's Relay for Life fundraising total over the last decade to more than $1 million - a remarkable achievement for a region of little more than 32,000 people. Spectators are very welcome to come along and cheer the walkers on as they march around the ring (and around... and around again...). The Relay's annual Candlelight Ceremony - held in remembrance of friends and relatives lost to cancer - will be held about 6:30pm this evening. Lesley Williams and her daughter Tammy will be jointly launching their new book "Not Just Black And White" at the Ration Shed Museum in Barambah Avenue, Cherbourg from 12:00 noon to 2:30pm today. The new book - which has already won the David Unaipon Award - is a memoir of Lesley's nine year journey to recover the wages and savings she earned as an Aboriginal domestic servant from her "protector", the Queensland State Government. This turned out to be a journey that would test every ounce of her resolve, but also a battle she ultimately won. Told with honesty and good humour, the book is an extraordinary memoir about two women determined to make sure a bleak part of Queensland's history is not forgotten. The Waterhole Rocks Festival - Nanango
The first day of the three-day Waterhole Rocks rock 'n' roll campout weekend will roar into life at the Nanango Showgrounds this afternoon and continue on until late tonight. The festival is devoted to all things associated with 1950s and 1960s rock 'n' roll. This includes hot rods, custom cars, vintage caravans, driving games and dance lessons, all backed up by red hot rock 'n' roll acts. This afternoon the Festival will get underway with performances by Boby Ricks, the South Burnett's very own Elvis Jeff Hancox and Heartbeat before things step up a notch at 6:30pm with rock & roll band Old 45s playing until late - just perfect if you're looking for a rock & roll Friday night out, complete with dancing on the Festival's special rock 'n' roll dance floor! The South Burnett Community Orchestra string ensemble will be presenting their annual Spring Strings concert on the rear lawn of historic Ringsfield House at 45 Alfred Street, Nanango at 4:00pm this afternoon. This includes hot rods, custom cars, vintage caravans, driving games and dance lessons, all backed up by red hot rock 'n' roll acts. 2015 South Burnett Business Excellence Awards - Kingaroy
SOLD OUT: The winners of the 2015 South Burnett Business Excellence Awards will be announced at a black tie dinner held at Kingaroy Town Hall this evening. Tickets to the dinner - at $80 per head - were sold out several weeks ago, and proceedings will commence at 6:00pm. This year's Business Excellence Awards have been sponsored by Heritage Bank Nanango and TAFE Queensland South West, and sectional awards have been sponsored by Bill Hull Car Centre, the Burnett Business Centre, Supa IGA Kingaroy, the Tarong Power Stations, Proteco Oils and Meandu Mine.

Cheese & Sourdough Bread Workshops - Yarraman
Two separate 3 hour workshops on making cheeses and sourdough bread will be held at the Yarraman Over 50s Club in Emmert Street, Yarraman today. The first workshop, which will run from 9:30am to 12:30pm, will explain how to make feta cheese, cultured butter, ghee, yoghurt, kefir, kefir cheese and sour cream. And the second workshop (2:00pm to 5:00pm) will show how to make brie cheese from cow's milk, as well as delicious sourdough bread. Kingaroy Swimming Pool Re-Opens
RESCHEDULED: The Kingaroy Swimming Pool - which has been undergoing extensive repairs over the winter months - will re-open to the public today for the 2015-2016 swimming season. In response to public requests, the refurbished pool will have shade sails over the Toddler's Pool and the grassed area. Note: The re-opening of this pool was set back to November 4 due to the installation of new processors at the Gordonbrook Water Treatment Plant, and the need to conserve water for a week while this was being carried out.

The Zone 8 Dressage And Combined Training Championships will be held at the Kingaroy Showgrounds from early this morning until late this afternoon. Nominations closed for this event on Monday, October 19 but spectators are very welcome and a full canteen will be operating all day.

Bunya Mountains Markets
The monthly Bunya Mountains Markets will also be running at Dandabah in the Bunya Mountains today. The markets feature up to 30 stands selling quality, locally-produced fresh produce, arts and crafts and they'll be operating from 9:00am to 2:00pm. Local cafes like Poppies On The Hill and The Bunya Mountains Cafe will be offering special Market Day menus and morning teas, lunches and afternoon teas (as well as Seafood Sunday at Lyrics licensed restaurant - see entry above), and walking trail maps will be available from both cafes, the Bunya Mountains General Store and market stalls if you'd like to take a walk through the adjoining National Park.

The Blackbutt-Yarraman Rugby League Club's touch football competition will get underway tonight at the Blackbutt rugby league grounds (ie Ian “Bunny” Pearce Oval), with Juniors (aged 5-14 years) kicking off at 5:00pm followed by Opens (men's, women's and mixed teams) at 6:00pm. 2015 Murgon Music Muster
The first day of the four-day Murgon Music Muster will get underway at the PCYC complex next to the Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street, Murgon between 3:00pm and 10:00pm this evening. The Muster is being organised by the Murgon Rotary Club and over the next three days it will feature a wide range of country and bush balladeering talents. Tonight's show will focus on walk-up artists, and a freshly-cooked dinner will be available in the grounds at reasonable prices, along with an indoor bar. 2015 Murgon Music Muster
The second day of the four-day Murgon Music Muster will get underway at the PCYC complex next to the Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street, Murgon at 8:00am this morning with a Poet's Breakfast that will last until 9:30am. This will be followed from 10:00am until late by an Invited and Walk-Up Acts concert. The Muster is being organised by the Murgon Rotary Club and over the next two days will feature a wide range of country and bush balladeering talents. Lunch and dinner will be available in the grounds too, along with an indoor bar. Admission today is $20 and overnight camping sites are available in the showgrounds for between $6 (unpowered) and $9 (powered) per night if you want to stay over. South Burnett Wine Appreciation Society - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Wine Appreciation Society will be holding their regular monthly meeting at the 1913 Council Chambers in Edward Street behind the Kingaroy Visitor Information Centre from 6:30pm onwards this evening. The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). A Halloween Party will be held at the Blackbutt Show Hall inside the Blackbutt Showgrounds at the end of Hart Street from 4:30pm to around 10:00pm tonight.
