The Shed in Little Drayton Street, Nanango (just next to the Scott Car Park) will be open from 7:30pm until late tonight for local musicians and anyone else who enjoys music to come along, bring their instruments and jam in a relaxed and informal setting (or just sit on the Shed's lounges, listen in and enjoy the wide variety of talent on offer). 2017 Wondai Show
The first day of the two-day 100th Wondai Show will be held at Wondai Showgrounds in Baynes Street, Wondai from early this morning through until late tonight (the gates will open to the public at 9:00am). As usual, most of the activities will be given over to judging this year's pavilion exhibits and the Burnett Kennel Club's annual 3-day Championship Dog Show - the Show's main public day is tomorrow. But at 5:00pm the Show's traditional Stud Beef Young Judges and Paraders Competition will be run. A licensed bar and BBQ will also be operating and the public are most welcome to come along to today's Show activities for free. More details? South Burnett Pantry - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). St Joseph's School Fete - Murgon
St Joseph's School in Angel Avenue, Murgon will be holding their annual School Fete from 5:30pm to around 9:00pm today as a fundraiser for the school and parish. In addition to plenty of food and market stalls, there'll be performances by students from all grades from Prep through to Year 7, as well as fun entertainment for the whole family including amusement rides; celebrity dunking of teachers and police; a giant double-lane Big Drop slide and lots more, plus live entertainment. Last year around 350 people attended the Fete and this year organisers are hoping for even more. Everyone is welcome and it's always a great family fun night out! Spots Concert - Nanango
Nanango State High School's annual Spots Concert will be held at the school's hall in Elk Street, Nanango tonight. Doors open at 5:30pm for a 6:00pm start. Family entry is $15, adults are $5 and students $4 (under 5s are free). There'll be lots of great performances, good food and many raffle prizes to be won, and everyone is welcome!

QRRRWN Barambah Branch Meeting
The Barambah branch of the Queensland Rural, Regional and Remote Women's Network will be holding their first Friday of the month meeting today. Art Exhibition Opening - Wondai
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery on the roundabout at Wondai will be opening their latest monthly exhibition for 2017 with a wine and cheese tasting at 6:00pm tonight. This month the gallery will be hosting three separate exhibitions: artist Zane Stuart in the main gallery; artist Helen Blythman in the front gallery; and the South Burnett Cake Decorators Association in the rear gallery. Children from Taabinga State School will also be mounting a mini exhibition of their own in Kidz Korner. As usual, tonight's opening will also feature great hot and cold finger foods and punch, along with wine tastings from Crane's Winery, live entertainment and lots of fun socialising. The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. Spring Cent Auction - Nanango
The Nanango RSL Citizen's Auxiliary will be holding their 4th annual Spring Cent Auction at Taras Hall next to the Nanango RSL in Henry Street, Nanango this afternoon. Doors will open at 11:30am so early birds can inspect all the items on offer and formulate their bidding strategies. The auction itself will get underway at 1:00pm and conclude at around 2:30pm. There'll be lots of great items up for grabs and the $5 admission includes a free sheet of tickets and a great afternoon tea. Funfest Casino Night - Nanango
The Heritage Nanango Funfest committee will be holding their 4th annual Funfest Casino Night at Taras Hall next to Nanango RSL in George Street, Nanango from 7:00pm until late this evening as fundraiser for RACQ LifeFlight (game play starts at 8:00pm). Guests at this gala event will get to enjoy a really great night out. Professional croupiers from Brisvegas will be offering blackjack, roulette, Texas hold'em poker, craps and casino war on casino-standard tables (along with help if you don't know how to play any particular game). There'll also be great live entertainment throughout the evening from the South Burnett's very own Elvis, Jeff Hancox, and the entry fee includes $2,000 in fun money, two drinks (there'll be a licensed bar operating if you want more), delicious finger food and unlimited tea and coffee. There'll also be a valuable Lucky Door Prize up for grabs. Spring Ball - Inverlaw
A Spring Ball will be held at Inverlaw Hall on the Burrandowan Road (roughly 20km from Kingaroy) from 8:00pm until late this evening. Music will be supplied by the Mystique Band and there'll be the usual great supper and novelties, along with a Lucky Door draw. 2017 Wondai Show
The main public day of the 100th Wondai Show will be held at the Wondai Showgrounds in Baynes Street, Wondai from 8:30am this morning until 5:00pm tonight when the Country Music Muster kicks into action. This year's Show will feature a jam-packed programme of events including chain-saw racing; 3 rings of horse events; the second day of the South Burnett Kennel Club Dog Show; free roving entertainment for children; an arts and crafts display under the grandstand; a Show & Shine across five classes; plus displays and demonstrations of vintage machinery and many, many other things. There'll also be performances by the Wondai Town Band and a great sideshow alley. The Show will be officially opened at 1:00pm by Queensland Governor Paul de Jersey, and the Grand Parade will follow at 2:30pm. This in turn will be followed by live entertainment. A licensed bar and hot food outlets will be operating throughout the day and evening too. Admission is $10 for adults, $6 for pensioners and high school students and $2 for primary schoolers (pre-schoolers are free!). Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. The South Burnett's 2017 soccer season will be holding its Preliminary Finals (the match that precedes next week's Grand Finals) at Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street in Kingaroy today. The winners of today's Preliminary Finals will go on to contest the Grand Finals next week, while the losers will end their season, so spectators can expect some pretty hard-fought, fast paced football games! Today's action will get underway at 2:00pm with the 2nd Division clash between Gunners and Wests. This will be followed at 4:00pm with the Women's Division match between Wests and Barambah, and thwen at 6:00pm with the 1st Division game under lights between Gunners and Barambah. Rugby League Preliminary Finals - Nanango
The South Burnett's 2017 Rugby League competition is also coming close to its finale today, and the preliminary finals will be played at Stags Oval off the D'Aguilar Highway just south of Nanango's CBD all day today. Matches will kick off at at 10:45am with the U12s clash between Cherbourg and Nanango, followed by U14s at 11:45am, and then the U16s game between Cherbourg and Kingaroy at 1:00pm. The A Grade clash - between the Murgon Mustangs and Nanango's Stags - will take to the field at 2:30pm. Today's semis will offer very fast-paced footy and a canteen and bar will be operating in the grounds. Spectators are very welcome!

Gav On Guitar - Blackbutt

Fathers Day
Today is the first Sunday in September: Fathers Day, the counterpoint to Mothers Day and probably the one time of the year that thoughtful children make their Dad breakfast in bed, get him his Ipad so he can read the Sunday news and then stay well out of his hair for at least an hour or two (especially if he was out celebrating last night). Horsetrax Oz will be holding a 25km, half day BYO horse ride for three riders around the Yarraman forestry area today. Heritage Nanango Music Muster
The 2017 Heritage Nanango Country Music Muster will be held at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street, Nanango from September 7-10 this year - and today the Muster will get underway in a low-key way as attendees file into Nanango from all over south-east Queensland to set up camp and prepare for a long weekend of country music fun. The 2017 Muster will kick off with a BBQ and a Campers Walk Up Concert which will start at 10:00am and continue until around 1:00pm; and then an Evening Walk Up Concert from 6:00pm to 10:00pm tonight. A bar will be operating at the Showgrounds from 10:00am to midnight as well. You can get in to attend today's barbie and concerts for free, but tomorrow the fee will be $20; an all-day Saturday pass will be $30 (or $15 if you want to attend from 3:00pm onwards); or you can buy a 4-day pass to the entire event for $45 (young people aged 14 to 17 can get tickets for half price, and under-14s accompanied by an adult can get in for free). Camping will also be available at the Showgrounds and fees range between $7 and $9 per night for unpowered or powered sites - but a booking for any camp site is essential because the Muster usually packs the Showgrounds to capacity. The Kingaroy Clay Target Club will be hosting the 2017 Queensland Police Clay Target Club Trap Nationals shooting competition today and tomorrow. Teams of four players can start the day with lunch at noon (your choice of beef, satay, honey and soy or a chilli burger) followed by game of bowls, some raffles and games and concluding with some nibbles at the end of the day. Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Nanango will be celebrating its centenary this weekend. Art Exhibition Opening - Wondai
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery on the roundabout at Wondai will be opening their ninth monthly exhibition for 2017 with a wine and cheese tasting at 6:00pm tonight. Kumbia Country Markets
The third Kumbia Country Markets for 2017 (run by the Kumbia Hall Committee) will be held in Bell Street and the precincts of the Kumbia Hall from 7:00am to 12:00 noon today. The markets feature homemade gifts, fashions, fresh fruit and vegies, plants and crafts and a sausage sizzle will be operating too! Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. Queensland State ABA Titles - Nanango
The Barambah Bowhunters And Field Archers Association will be hosting the Queensland State ABA Titles at their archery range in Bowhunters Road just off the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango from 10:00am this morning. The Titles feature two 3 1 arrow rounds, and presentations will be held on completion. Camping is available onsite and spectators are very welcome.

Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at the old railway station building at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for its regular Saturday morning meeting today, kicking off with a cuppa at 9:00am. Pig On A Spit Night - Maidenwell
Maidenwell's historic Maidenwell Hotel will be holding another of their popular monthly Pig On A Spit evenings from 6:00pm until late tonight (dinner is served from 6:00pm to 8:00pm). There'll be live entertainment from a local performer and lots of cold beer, along with more pork than you can poke a fork at, all served up with with roast potatoes, pumpkin, corn, peas, carrots, applesauce and gravy! There'll also be roast beef and spit roasted chicken on the menu tonight for those who prefer a non-pork option, plus a vegetarian option (ie vegies only). In addition, there'll also be a Meat Raffle run as a fundraiser for Tanduringie State School. Three quality meat trays from The Little Butcher in Kingaroy will be up for grabs. Everyone is welcome! Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding their Saturday meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.

Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
