The South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon will be holding a "Seniors Having A Ball" exercise class from 8:30am to 9:30am this morning. The program is designed to address the issues that many have with ageing and it's not just for seniors! It provides light exercise to keep the heart and joints moving, improving coordination and mobility. It also provides a beginner platform to start any fitness activity on. The Sister Dolores Carroll Training Centre at St Mary's Catholic College at 10 Kent Street in Kingaroy will be transforming into a "Man's Cave" between 6:30pm and 10:00pm tonight. Qualified instructors will be demonstrating the use of all the equipment in the centre - great stuff like lathes, drills etc - and if you're a man interested in restoring or manufacturing wood or metal products and socialising with other men who have similar interests, then this could be the place for you! Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other to help solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. Regional Karaoke Sing-Off - Wondai
The final heat of the Wondai Show Society's brand new Regional Karaoke Sing-Off will be held at the Warana Hotel in Mackenzie Street, Wondai tonight. This new competition is searching for the best karaoke singers in the region, and they'll be in the running to win $2500 in cash prizes at this year's Wondai Show. The competition is open to anyone and if you want to take part, you'll need to register at the Warana between 6:00pm and 7:30pm, after which the sing-offs will run until late. Meals will be available at the hotel, too, if you race in early - their new bistro menu will debut at 6:00pm. Everyone is welcome and admission is free. Art Exhibition Opening - Wondai
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery on the roundabout at Wondai will be opening their latest monthly exhibition for 2016 with a wine and cheese tasting at 6:00pm tonight. This month the gallery will be hosting the annual South Burnett High School Art Competition which will feature works by Juniors (Years 7-9) and Seniors (Years 10-12), along with a 2D division (paintings) and a 3D division (for sculpture, pottery and papier mache). First, second and third prizes will be awarded in all sections, and a perpetual trophy will be awarded to the winning school. As usual, tonight's opening will also feature great hot and cold finger foods and punch, along with wine tastings from Clovely Estate, live entertainment and lots of fun socialising. Junior Rugby League - Wondai and Cherbourg
Apart from the junior games that will precede this year's Grand Final at Kingaroy (see entry further above), there will also be junior games played at Wondai and Cherbourg today. At the Wondai Sportsgrounds, the U6s/U8s Wolves will play Central Burnett at 9:00am; the U10s at 10:00am; and the U12s at 11:00am. This will be followed with an U14s match between the Wolves and Nanango's Stags (a planned 1:00pm clash between Murgon and Central Burnett has been forfeited by Central Burnett). And in Cherbourg at Jack O'Chin Oval, the U6s/U8s Hornets will play the Mustangs at 9:00am; the U10s at 10:00am; and the U12s at 11:00am. This month's exhibition will feature artworks by award-winning master pastellist Karol Oakley in Gallery 1, and silk paintings by well-known artist Cherry Carroll in Gallery 2. Nanango Army Cadet Expo
The Nanango Army Cadets will be holding an Army Cadet Expo at the Nanango State High School Hall from 12:00 noon until late today. The expo will be preceded by Army Cadets from Brisbane and the surrounding area attending the Nanango Markets for a march around the main arena supported by Cadet drummers. This will be followed by a sausage sizzle and bacon and egg burgers on sale back at Nanango State High School, along with the Expo itself which will showcase the many activities Cadets get involved in. If you're a young person who's wondering if Cadets are right for you, today's Expo is a great way to get all your questions answered, as well as a chance to meet current cadets who are really enjoying the experience. 2016 South Burnett Rugby League Grand Final - Kingaroy
South Burnett rugby league fans need to head to T.J. O'Neill Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy today. Matches will kick off at 9:00am when the U6s and U8s Red Ants play Nanango, followed at 10:30am with an U10s game between both teams. At 11:30am, the U16R team will play Brothers, followed at 12:45pm with an U12s game between the Red Ants and Nanango, and then an U14s clash with Chinchilla Green at 1:45pm. At 2:45pm, the last junior match of the day will be played between U16W and a combined Nanango/Wondai team before the biggest match of the day - the A-Grade Grand Final between the Nanango Stags and Cherbourg Hornets - kicks off at 4:00pm. The Hornets are currently at the top of the table and the Stags are in second place, but both sides are running hot and this year's Grand Final seems likely to be one of the best games of the season. A bar and canteen will be operating in the grounds, and spectators and supporters are very welcome!

An Olympic Fun Walk with former Olympian Justin Anlezark from Blackbutt to Benarkin and return via the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail will be held at 9:00am this morning. 2016 Census Night
Tonight is the night you need to fill in your Census form for the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Vietnam Veterans Day - Blackbutt, Nanango and Kingaroy
Today is Vietnam Veterans Day, which was formerly known as Long Tan Day in memory of the 18 Australians killed at the battle of Long Tan on the 18th August 1966, when troops from 6th Battalion of the Royal Australian Regiment engaged a large enemy force there. Vietnam Veterans Day has come to symbolise our nation's collective memory of the Vietnam War and in the South Burnett, special services are conducted every year to mark it. In Blackbutt, the president and members of the Blackbutt RSL Sub-Branch will be holding a service to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan at the RSL Memorial in Muir Street at 11:00am sharp; in Nanango, the Nanango RSL will be holding a commemoration service at the Drayton Street War Memorial at 4:30pm; and in Kingaroy, the South Burnett branch of the Vietnam Veterans Association will be holding a commemoration service outside the Kingaroy RSL at 10:30am. The Preliminary Finals of this season's South Burnett senior football competition will be played at the Burnett Street soccer fields in Nanango this afternoon. Six teams will be battling it out to see which three will take their places in next week's Grand Final, so the matches should all be very high quality, hard-fought games. Matches will kick off at 12:30pm, with a 2nd Division game between Wests and Barambah; and the Women's Division game on a second field, also between Wests and Barambah, at 1:00pm. The South Burnett Musical Comedy Society will be presenting the debut performance of this year's production "Little Shop Of Horrors" at the Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy at 7:30pm this evening. Little Shop Of Horrors is a 1980s comedy rock musical about a hapless florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human beings. The main characters are Seymour Krelborn, who runs the florist shop for his overbearing boss Mr Mushnik, and Seymour’s love interest Audrey, who wants to leave her abusive dentist boyfriend Orin. The show’s music, composed by Alan Menken in early 1960s rock and roll, doo-wop and Motown styles, includes several well-known tunes ... and as the play goes on, the plant steadily grows bigger and hungrier, eating one character after another. The South Burnett's senior rugby league season may have come to an end, but there are still a number of junior grades who've yet to play their end-of-season matches. And this morning there will be three good junior preliminary final games most league fans will enjoy at the Wondai Sportsgrounds on the Bunya Highway north of Wondai's CBD. At 9.00am the U14 preliminary final will be played between Cherbourg and Nanango. This will be followed at 10:15am by the U12s, where Cherbourg will play Central Burnett. South Burnett Soccer Grand Finals - Kingaroy
The Grand Finals of this year's South Burnett senior football competition will be played at the Kingaroy Senior Soccer Fields at the end of Oliver Bond Street, Kingaroy this afternoon. At 2:00pm, Nanango's Panthers will play Barambah in 2nd Division; at 4:00pm, the Panthers will play Barambah in the Women's Division; and at 6:00pm, the Panthers will play Gunners in 1st Division. All three matches promise to be some of the best football seen this year, and since die-hard fans usually wear their team's colours to Grand Finals, very colourful too! A canteen will be operating throughout and spectators are very welcome. Meanwhile, junior soccer matches will be played at the junior soccer fields in Oliver Bond Street, Kingaroy this morning.

2016 Wondai Show
The main public day of the 99th annual Wondai Show will be held at the Wondai Showgrounds in Baynes Street, Wondai from 8:30am this morning until 5:00pm tonight when the South Burnett Regional Karaoke Sing-Off kicks into action. This year's Show will feature a jam-packed programme of events including chain-saw racing; 3 rings of horse events; the second day of the South Burnett Kennel Club Dog Show; free roving entertainment for children; Karla's Carnival; an arts and crafts display under the grandstand; a Show & Shine across five classes; plus demonstrations of milking, vintage machinery and many, many other things. There'll also be performances by the Wondai Town Band and a great sideshow alley. The Show will be officially opened at 1:30pm by Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington, and the Grand Parade will follow at 2:30pm. This in turn will be followed by live entertainment. A licensed bar and hot food outlets will be operating throughout the day and evening too. 23rd Annual Kumbia Brain Drain
Yes! It's on again and more mind-snapping than ever! The 23rd Annual Kumbia Brain Drain will be held at Kumbia Hall on the Bunya Highway in Kumbia from 6:00pm until late this evening. The event - which is the major annual fundraiser for Kumbia State School P&C - is a trivia-style tournament where teams of 6 compete for great cash prizes. Guests at this year's Brain Drain are encouraged to dress to the theme "Superheroes And Villains" to be in the running for great prizes for the best-dressed team and best team name. There'll also be cash prizes for round winners and overall winners, along with the usual fun-filled audience participation games and raffles. Superpower energy food, tea and coffee will be provided, but you'll need to BYO Kryptonic liquids if you have a righteous thirst that needs specialised attention. The South Burnett Musical Comedy Society will be presenting the second performance of this year's production "Little Shop Of Horrors" at the Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy at 7:30pm this evening. Little Shop Of Horrors is a 1980s comedy rock musical about a hapless florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human beings. The main characters are Seymour Krelborn, who runs the florist shop for his overbearing boss Mr Mushnik, and Seymour’s love interest Audrey, who wants to leave her abusive dentist boyfriend Orin. The show’s music, composed by Alan Menken in early 1960s rock and roll, doo-wop and Motown styles, includes several well-known tunes ... and as the play goes on, the plant steadily grows bigger and hungrier, eating one character after another. This month's film is "Breaker Morant", a drama based on the true story of Harry "Breaker" Morant, an Australian serving with the Bushveldt Carbineers during the Second Boer War who was arrested and court-martialed for war crimes - one of the first such prosecutions in British military history. Morant retaliated for the death in combat of his commanding officer with a series of revenge killings against both Boer POWs and many civilian residents of the Northern Transvaal. Chemical Application For Agriculture Workshop - Burrandowan
The first day of a one and a half day "Chemical Application For Agriculture" workshop will be held at at Burrandowan Hall on Burra Burri Road at Chahpingah from 1:00pm to 5:00opm today (and from 8:00am to 4:00pm tomorrow). The workshop - which is being presented by TAFE and organised by BIEDO - is designed for experienced and semi-experienced farmers, growers, weed controllers and other users of agricultural chemicals, and is a required course to obtain a licence to become a commercial chemical sprayer. Indoor Bowls & Cards Day - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Senior Citizens Club will be hosting indoor bowls and cards (500) competitions at its centre on the corner of Avoca and Kingaroy Streets, Kingaroy between 9:00am and 4:00pm today. The Sister Dolores Carroll Training Centre at St Mary's Catholic College at 10 Kent Street in Kingaroy will be transforming into a "Man's Cave" between 6:30pm and 10:00pm tonight. Qualified instructors will be demonstrating the use of all the equipment in the centre - great stuff like lathes, drills etc - and if you're a man interested in restoring or manufacturing wood or metal products and socialising with other men who have similar interests, then this could be the place for you!
