Art Exhibiftion Opening - Wondai
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery on the roundabout at Wondai will be opening their seventh monthly exhibition for 2014 with a wine and cheese tasting at 6:00pm tonight. This month the gallery will be hosting the annual South Burnett High School Art Competition, and the gallery will be full of works by South Burnett high school students competing for a range of cash prizes in both junior and senior divisions. There'll be sections for 2D art (paintings), 3D art (sculpture, pottery and paper mache) and Interpretative Indigenous-Inspired Art. As usual, tonight's opening will also feature great hot and cold finger foods and punch, along with wine tastings from a South Burnett winery, live entertainment and lots of fun socialising. South Burnett Pantry - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 11:00am to 1:00pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $35 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). Nanango Cup Race Meeting - Nanango
The Nanango Race Club will be holding their annual XXXX Gold-Carrollee Hotel Nanango Cup Race Meeting at the Lee Park Raceway off the D'Aguilar Highway just south of Nanango from 10:00am to around 5:00pm today - always one of their biggest meetings of the year. Today's races will have a "Classic Black and White" theme and everyone is encouraged to dress up in their best black and white outfits to be in the running for some great Moffatdale Ridge Fashions Of The Field prizes. There'll also be a "Blessing Of The Jockeys" ceremony to mark the start of a new racing year, official Premiership Presentations and a whole lot more! The race club's popular Pink Champagne Bar will be serving up platters all day as well if you fancy a bite; a licensed bar and BBQ will be operating under the extended covered area; the race club canteen will be open for sit-down dining; children will be well catered for with entertainment; and there'll be plenty of bookmakers and an on-course tote available in the betting ring to take your wagers. A lot of people also like to use the Nanango Cup Race Meeting for get-togethers and parties, and you're welcome to picnic on the lawns or even bring your own marquee if you like. This will be a 5-race meeting and buses will be running to the races from Kingaroy's Carrollee Hotel (at noon) and Glendon Street Bus Depot (12:15pm), and the Nanango RSL at 12:30pm. Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and routinely attract 320 to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Relay For Life Dinner With The Captains - Kingaroy
The annual Relay For Life "Dinner With The Captains" - one of the highlights on the South Burnett's annual social calendar, and a big fundraiser for the Queensland Cancer Council - will be held from 6:00pm onwards tonight at Kingaroy Town Hall (the dinner starts at 6:30pm sharp). This year's event will be addressed by Australian sporting legends Allan Border (pictured at right), Libby Trickett and Tommy Raudonikis. Guests at this semi-formal soiree will get to enjoy a gourmet three course dinner, and a cash bar will be operating too. There'll also be a great auction of sporting memorabilia which includes several rare items by Don Bradman, amongst many others. Benarkin To Linville Rail Trail Walk
Here's something different! A community Rail Trail Walk from Benarkin to Linville will be held along the Blackbutt Rail Trail this morning. If you take part you'll be able to walk the track with others, experience the quiet and beauty of the forest, see wildlife and smell the fresh mountain air as you walk down to the range to Linville, then enjoy a picnic lunch (included in the cost) of sandwiches, fruit, tea/coffee and a sweet slice before boarding a bus to be ferried back to Benarkin. The walk will kick off from Benarkin Park (8:00am for an 8:30am start) and will be followed by a support vehicle. All you really need to bring along is comfortable clothing and footwear, a hat, water, sunscreen and a sense of adventure. Tickets are $15 for adults or $8 for children aged 10 or younger, but to allow for catering tickets need to be booked and paid by August 1st (no tickets will be available today). The second (and main) day of a three-day Scots In The Bush Scottish and Celtic Festival will be held at Boondooma Homestead at 8262 Mundubbera-Durong Road at Boondooma today. After a one-week break for the Ekka long weekend, the Souuth Burnett Evolution Solar Football League will be playing a Super Soccer Sunday at the Murgon Sportsgrounds in Macalister Street, Murgon all day today. Today's games are the Elimination and Qualification Semi-Finals that will see all teams take to the fields in the run-up to this season's penultimate matches (in the Elimination Semis, losers get knocked out of the competition for the remainder of the season; in Qualification Semis, losers get a berth in the Preliminary Semis, and winners a place in the Grand Final). The action will get underway with an Elimination Semi-Final between Wests and Gunners 2nd Division at 9:00am, followed by a Qualification Semi between Nanango and Barambah's 2nd Division teams at 11:00am. After this, Barambah and Gunnettes will play a Women's Division Elimination Semi at 1:00pm, and will be followed by Nanango and Wests in a Women's Division Qualification Semi at 3:00pm. Today is Vietnam Veterans Day, which was formerly known as Long Tan Day in memory of the 18 Australians killed at the battle of Long Tan on the 18th August 1966 when troops from 6th Battalion of the Royal Australian Regiment engaged a large enemy force there. Cats (The Musical) - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Musical Comedy Society will be holding their first performance of the classic Andrew Lloyd Webber musical "Cats" at the Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy at 7:30pm tonight. The musical tells the story of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles and the night they make what is known as "the Jellicle choice" to decide which cat will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life. Cats first opened in the West End in 1981 and Broadway the succeeding year, and as of 2014 has become the second longest-running show in Broadway history, and the fourth longest-running West End musical. The South Burnett Evolution Solar Football League will be playing their Preliminary Finals at Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street in Kingaroy today - and it should be a great day of football action for soccer fans as all teams battle it out for a place in the season's Grand Final. At 2:00pm, Barambah will play Gunners in 2nd Division; at 4:00pm, Nanango will play Gunnettes in the Women's Division; and at 6:00pm, Barambah will play Wests. Kumbia Brain Drain
SOLD OUT! Yes! It's on again and more mind-snapping than ever! The 21st Annual Kumbia Brain Drain will be held at Kumbia Hall on the Bunya Highway in Kumbia from 6:30pm until late this evening (competition commences at 7:30pm sharp). The event - which is the major annual fundraiser for Kumbia State School P&C - is a trivia-style tournament where teams of 6 compete for great cash prizes. Attendees at this year's Brain Drain are being encouraged to dress to the theme "Space Oddity" (ie something sci-fi) to be in the running for a prize as the best-dressed team. There'll also be the usual fun-filled audience participation games and raffles too. Nibbles, drinks and a hot and cold supper will be provided, but you'll need to BYO esky if you have a righteous thirst that needs specialised attention. Admission is still an incredibly slim $10 per person - minimum age is 15 - and a maximum of 35 teams can take part in the competition. More than $1,000 in prize monies is up for grabs! Medieval Banquet - Nanango
Here's something different! The Nanango Art Society will be holding a Medieval Banquet at the Nanango Cultural Centre in George Street, Nanango from 6:00pm until late this evening as the culmination of today's Medieval Fayre (see entry above). Cats (The Musical) - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Musical Comedy Society will be holding their third performance of the classic Andrew Lloyd Webber musical "Cats" at the Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy at 2:00pm this afternoon. The musical tells the story of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles and the night they make what is known as "the Jellicle choice" to decide which cat will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life. Cats first opened in the West End in 1981 and Broadway the succeeding year, and as of 2014 has become the second longest-running show in Broadway history, and the fourth longest-running West End musical. Cats (The Musical) - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Musical Comedy Society will be holding their fourth performance of the classic Andrew Lloyd Webber musical "Cats" at the Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy at 7:30pm tonight. The musical tells the story of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles and the night they make what is known as "the Jellicle choice" to decide which cat will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life. Cats first opened in the West End in 1981 and Broadway the succeeding year, and as of 2014 has become the second longest-running show in Broadway history, and the fourth longest-running West End musical. Tickets for performances can be obtained in advance from Kingaroy Office Central in Haly Street, but will also be on sale at the door. Two final performances will be held tomorrow at 2:00pm and 7:30pm.

2014 Wondai Show
The main public day of the 97th Annual Wondai Show will be held at Wondai Showgrounds in Baynes Street, Wondai from 8:30am this morning until around 7:00pm tonight when the Live Bucking Bull Bonanza kicks into action. Leukaemia Foundation Charity Ride - Cooyar
A Charity Ride to raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation will be leaving the Cooyar Hotel at around 10:00am this morning, proceeding to the Stanley Hotel at Kilcoy and then across to Somerset Dam for lunch; then travelling on to Perseverance Dam and Crows Nest, before returning to Cooyar in the late afternoon for a pig-on-a-spit dinner and live music until late around a big bonfire supplied by the Mr Q Band. Relay For Life Car Wash - Kingaroy
A Relay For Life Car Wash will be held at Lions Park in Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy from 8:00am to 3:00pm today as a fundraiser for this year's Relay For Life effort. Tableland Markets
The Tableland Hall Committee will be holding their popular bi-annual Market Day at Tableland Hall from 6:30am to around 2:00pm today. These markets are only held twice a year and are becoming quite a crowd-pleaser with a lots of stalls offering everything from fresh produce through to coffee and tea, cakes and baked goods, plants and bric-a-brac. There'll also be a great steak sandwiches and hot chips on offer; a raffle; background music; and fun competitions for adults and children including a cooking compdetition (for both children and adults), where the entries will be auctioned after judging. Cr Kathy Duff will also be in attendance this morning to answer any questions you have about Council or hear about local issues you'd like her to look into. Sunday AFL - Kingaroy
After several weeks without a home game, the South Burnett Saints AFL team will be returning in triumph to Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy at 2:30pm this afternoon when they play University Cougars in the AFL's Darling Downs Division 2 Qualifying Final - the first ever AFL final held in Kingaroy, and the Saints' last home game of the season. The Saints are currently in top place on the 2014 competition ladder after a string of recent wins, so there'll be lot of interest in this match from AFL fans, since it will determine if our boys play in the Grand Final or not. Spectators are most welcome, a bar and refreshments will be available and admission is free.
