Art Exhibition Opening - Wondai
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery on the roundabout at Wondai will be opening their latest monthly exhibition for 2016 with a wine and cheese tasting at 6:00pm tonight. This month the gallery will be hosting “Point Of Difference” by well known artists Rhonda Pullen, Judith Goodman, Sarah McCathy and June McCotter, who are working in conjunction Nambour with interior design firm Vo'ia Design. This exhibition - which features works by all four artists - will fill all three galleries, and promises to be something quite different. As usual, tonight's opening will also feature great hot and cold finger foods and punch, along with wine tastings from Cranes Winery, live entertainment and lots of fun socialising. Zombie Laser Skirmish - Murgon
The South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon will be holding their latest "Friday Night Live" from 5:00pm to 9:00pm this evening - and tonight will be a special Zombie Laser Skirmish event with 30 minute games available every half hour for $10 per game (and you can dress up as a zombie if you want, too). Friday Night Live is open to all primary school and high school students and the get-together features music and a range of fun activities. Food and soft drinks are available from the PCYC canteen and free bus travel is available from Goomeri and Wondai, with pick up at 5:15pm and return at 9:00pm. Friday Night At The Shed - Nanango

The program is designed to address the issues that many have with ageing and it's not just for seniors! Raising Hell In Maidenwell Rock & Roll Dance
The first day of the three-day Raising Hell In Maidenwell Car Show 'N' Shine camp out weekend will be held at the Maidenwell Sportsgrounds (right next to the Maidenwell Hotel) all day today. This popular event - which is run by the South Burnett Gas Guzzlers to support local charities - is a campout weekend featuring live music; a big Show'n'Shine focussing on hot rods, street machines and pre-1975 customs; and vintage and veteran caravans. Today's daytime activities will largely focus on setting up camp (for guests spending the full weekend), meeting the neighbours and getting acquainted - the main public day is tomorrow - but tonight there'll be a big Rock & Roll Dance at the Maidenwell Hall from 7:00pm until late featuring the South Burnett's very own Elvis Jeff Hancox. Admission to the dance is $10 (or $5 if you're camping out at Raising Hell in Maidenwell) and everyone is very welcome! South Burnett Pantry - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. RACQ Careflight Enduro Challenge - Boondooma
Manar Park at Boondooma will be holding its 2016 RACQ Careflight Enduro Challenge today (and also tomorrow morning) as a fundraiser for RACQ Careflight, who airlift injured patrons from the Park to hospitals all year round. Competitors in the Challenge will need to complete four different Enduro loops. Tonight there'll also be a gold coin donation big screen slide show of photos taken during the day along with a camp fire sausage sizzle (BYO drinks, chair or blanket and photos), with all proceeds donated to Careflight; and tomorrow morning there'll be a more relaxed Novice Loop Challenge for children, beginners and families. Federal Election
The Federal election will be held today, and South Burnett voters will need to cast their ballots for the House of Representatives and the Senate (unless they've already voted at a pre-poll station or applied for a postal ballot). Depending on where you live in the region, you'll be voting for a representative in either Maranoa, Flynn or Wide Bay in the House Of Representatives; and wherever you live, you'll also be selecting twelve Queensland Senators to represent Queensland in the upper house. Polling booths will be open at all the usual locations and the first results of the counting can be expected later this evening. Voting is compulsory. Raising Hell In Maidenwell
The main public day of the three-day Raising Hell In Maidenwell Car Show 'N' Shine camp out weekend will be held at the Maidenwell Sportsgrounds (right next to the Maidenwell Hotel) all day today. This popular event - which is run by the South Burnett Gas Guzzlers to support local charities - features live music; a big Show'n'Shine focussing on hot rods, street machines and pre-1975 customs; and vintage and veteran caravans. Today's activities will kick off at 8:00am for Show & Shine exhibitors, and at 9:00am for the public. There'll be food stalls, raffles, engine blow-ups, a live band and market stalls, along with a free jumping castle, face painting and a colouring competition for the kiddies. No Inverlaw Hall Dance
Because of the Federal Election, there will be no Inverlaw Hall dance tonight. Inverlaw dancers take their politics very seriously and will be staying home to watch the results on the Net or TV instead. Dances will resume their normal schedule next month.

Saturday Rugby League - Wondai and Ipswich
Thanks to the school holidays there won't be any junior rugby league this weekend, and there'll only be one local A-grade match too - a clash between the Wondai Wolves and Nanango Stags at the Wondai Sportsgrounds on the Bunya Highway just north of the CBD, which will kick off at 3:00pm and should be a pretty good game. But if you'd like to travel, the Kingaroy Red Ants will be playing the Cherbourg Hornets at Ipswich Reserve at 2:15pm this afternoon prior to an Intrust Super Trust game between Ipswich and the CQ Capras. IKC Re-Opening - Cherbourg
Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council will be officially reopening the Winfred Fisher Indigenous Knowledge Centre at its new home in the Old Maternal Child Welfare Clinic at 15 Barambah Avenue in Cherbourg at 10:00am this morning. The IKC was originally launched at Cherbourg State School in 2002 but was closed in 2011. Today's celebrations will include live music by the South Burnett's favourite Indigenous band Muddy Flats, community art exhibitions, coding and robotics demonstrations and children's activities. As part of NAIDOC Week (which began yesterday), this year's local NAIDOC award winners will also be announced, and there'll be a community BBQ operating as well. QCWA Nighttime Country Kitchens - Kingaroy
The second workshop for the new night-time QCWA Country Kitchens will be held at the Kingaroy QCWA Hall in Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy at 5:30pm this evening (the workshop starts at 6:00pm and runs until 8:00pm). This new program from the QCWA teaches participants how to cook healthy foods in a fun environment, and also provides qualified food and nutrition advice along the way. There are five monthly workshops in the full $50 course, and all participants receive a shopping bag, apron, tea-towel and nutrition information along with a cooked meal at the end of each workshop they can either eat for dinner or take home with them. Art Exhibition Opening - Kingaroy
The second month of the Kingaroy Winter Craft Festival will be officially opened at the Kingaroy Art Gallery in Haly Street, Kingaroy (opposite the peanut silos) at 6:00pm this evening. The two-month long festival, which runs from June 2 to July 31, features exhibitions, demonstrations, make and take activities and workshops. This month the exhibition will feature woodwork created by the South Burnett Woodcrafters; paper tole works by Rosemarie Matthews-Frederick; and a retrospective exhibition of Barambah Pottery created at Cherbourg from 1969 to 1986, which will go on to the State Library later this year. Saturday Soccer - Kingaroy and Murgon
After a week's break for the winter school vacation, Round 12 of the 2016 South Burnett Football League competition will be played at Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street in Kingaroy and at the Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street today. Today's matches - and the three weekly rounds that will follow them until the end of this month - are the last four games of the season before the Semi-Final, Preliminary Final and Grand Final. So the competition is expected to be especially fierce and the gameplay from all teams very tight. In Kingaroy, Gunners will play the Nanango Panthers with 2nd Division hitting the park at 2:00pm; Women's Division at 3:30pm; and 1st Division at 5:00pm. And in Murgon, Barambah will play Wests with 2nd Division kicking off at 2:00pm, Women's Division at 3:30pm and 1st Division at 5:00pm. Canteens will be running at both venues and spectators are very welcome. Meanwhile, Junior Soccer matches will be continuing to take a break until July 16.

The South Burnett's annual Mini Mods rugby league carnival will be held over three ovals at the Wondai Sportsgrounds on the Bunya Highway in Wondai today. Ringsfield Film Society Movie Afternoon - Nanango
The Ringsfield Film Society will be screening a Sunday afternoon movie at their cinema - the old chapel in the grounds of Ringsfield House at 41-45 Alfred Street, Nanango - at 2:30pm today. This month's film is "Chariots Of Fire", a drama based on the true story of athletes Eric Liddle and Harold Abrahams who ran for British and Scottish gold respectively in the 1924 Paris Olympics despite great personal obstacles. The film parallels the preparations and struggles of the two men, the first a devout missionary who runs because he believes it glorifies God, the second a Jewish student at Cambridge determined to achieve fame and escape religious prejudice. National Tree Day
Today is National Tree Day, a day when all Australians are encouraged to get outdoors and (if possible) plant a tree. There are no Tree Day activities planned in the South Burnett, but Toowoomba Regional Council and the Oakey Urban Landcare group will be holding a working bee at the eastern end of Arthur Shooter Park in Stanley Street, Oakey today. The aim of the working bee is to regenerate a section of creek bank and parkland to increase habitat for local native species and prevent erosion, and any South Burnett residents who'd like to get involved are welcome.
