The Sister Dolores Carroll Training Centre at St Mary's Catholic College at 10 Kent Street in Kingaroy will be transforming into a "Man's Cave" between 6:30pm and 10:00pm tonight. Qualified instructors will be demonstrating the use of all the equipment in the centre - great stuff like lathes, drills etc - and if you're a man interested in restoring or manufacturing wood or metal products and socialising with other men who have similar interests, then this could be the place for you! The SBCUG is a not-for-profit group that aims to help seniors get the most from their computers. Beginners through to more advanced users are catered for with demonstrations and practical lessons. Art Exhibition Opening - Wondai
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery will be opening their sixth monthly exhibition for 2015 with a wine and cheese tasting at 6:00pm tonight in the newly refurbished Gallery building on the roundabout at Wondai. This month, the Gallery will be featuring three different exhibitions: “Near And Far” by popular Brisbane artist Lance Lamb in the main gallery; “2 Hot Chicks” - a joint exhibition of encaustic art by Betty Descovich and Gwen Olm in the front gallery; and “Winter Warmth in Wondai” by the the Graham House Spinners and Weavers Group in the third gallery. Raising Hell In Maidenwell Car Show & Shine
The first day of the three-day Raising Hell In Maidenwell Car Show 'N' Shine will be held at the Maidenwell Sportsgrounds (right next to the Maidenwell Hotel) all day today. This popular event - which is run by the South Burnett Gas Guzzlers to support local charities - is a campout weekend featuring live music; a big Show'n'Shine focussing on hot rods, street machines and pre-1975 customs; and vintage and veteran caravans. Today's activities will largely focus on setting up camp (for guests spending the full weekend), meeting the neighbours and getting acquainted - the main public day is tomorrow - but there'll be some entertainment at the hotel and in the grounds this afternoon and evening (including a gold coin donation welcome BBQ and drinks, bench session and games) plus lots of great cars to inspect. The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). Raising Hell In Maidenwell Car Show & Shine
The main public day of the three-day Raising Hell In Maidenwell Car Show 'N' Shine will be held at the Maidenwell Sportsgrounds (right next to the Maidenwell Hotel) all day today. Saturday Rugby League - Cherbourg
If you're a League fan, the place to go today is TJ O'Neill Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy, which will be holding three matches: an Under-18s match at 2:00pm between the Murgon Mustangs and the Cherbourg Hornets; then an A-Grade tussle between Kingaroy's Red Ants and Cherbourg's Hornets at 3:30pm; and then a second A-Grade match between the Mustangs and the formidable Wondai Wolves at 5:30pm. A canteen will be running all afternoon and evening, and spectators and supporters are very welcome.

Open Gate Day - Cloyna
An Open Gate Day will be held at Glenrock Farms at 32 Nielsons Road, Cloyna from 9:00am today. The event is aimed at agricultural producers who are interested in learning how to use grazing animals to increase profits and productivity. Dual Arts Exhibition Opening - Murgon
The Dual Arts Exhibition - featuring paintings and photos of 20 iconic South Burnett scenes - will be holding its world premiere opening at 90 Lamb Street, Murgon between 10:00am and 2:00pm today. The exhibition will be run in conjunction with a street party, and there'll be a sausage sizzle, amusement rides for children and more in Lamb Street, while adults tuck into champers and nibbles at the pop up gallery. Reserve Forces Day - Wondai
Today is Reserve Forces Day, which commemorates the two million-plus Australian men and women who've served in the ranks of the Army, Navy and Air Force Reserve since 1948 and also recalls the many thousands who served in the militia and other volunteer formations in the years prior to that. Wondai will be marking the event with a flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony at the Cenotaph outside the former Wondai Shire Council chambers in Mackenzie Street at 10:00am, and then a parade which will march along Pring and Bramston Streets into Mackenzie Street, and then to Coronation Park at 11:00am. The Parade is open to anyone who served in the CMF or in the reserves of any of the three Service Arms at any time, as well as any Regulars or Nasho’s (naturally, spectators are encouraged to come along and wave the flag to show their support). After this there will be a Recognition Service in Coronation Park, before the event concludes with a Beating Retreat ceremony held on the roadway fronting the Cenotaph. Everyone will then be invited to the nearby Wondai Diggers Club for refreshments. Note: Wondai is the smallest centre in Australia to hold a Reserve Forces Day parade, but it's always well supported. Maidenwell Markets
If you're heading up to the Bunya Mountains today, go via Maidenwell and you can browse the new Maidenwell Car Boot Sales And Market Stalls at the Maidenwell Sportsgrounds (just next to the Rural Fire Brigade HQ in the heart of town). These markets offer car boot sales plus a variety of market stalls selling various goods and wares, including wood fired pizza, fruit and veg, plants, face painting, jams and pickles, cakes, bric-a-brac, books and second hand goodies, crafts and lots more. Stallholder/Car boot fees are just $10 each, payable on day, and all proceeds go to the Maidenwell Community Group for the development of the township. The centrepiece of this month's exhibition will be "Colour For Walls" by South Burnett artist ANON (Lee Brewer), while Gallery 2 will be showcasing landscapes and portraits by Ces Small from the South Burnett Regional Council's permanent collection; Gallery 3 will be showing paintings and sculpture by David Bryce (also from Council's collection); and students from Taabinga State School will be displaying a range of their own artworks in the Youth Gallery. South Burnett Pantry - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). The eleventh round of the 2015 South Burnett Evolution Solar Football League competition will be played at Kingaroy and Nanango this afternoon. In Kingaroy, home team Gunners will face off against Barambah at Tom Alford Oval in Oliver Bond Street, with 1st Division hitting the park at 2:00pm; Women's Division at 3:15pm; and 2nd Division at 5:00pm. The Nanango Funfest Committee will be running a box office at Kingaroy Shoppingworld today to sell tickets to their up-coming Casino Night at the Nanango Cultural Centre on August 1. St Mary's Rock On Stage - Kingaroy
St Mary's Catholic College in Kent Street, Kingaroy will be presenting "St Mary's Rock On Stage" in the school's Maryknoll Centre from 5:00pm onwards tonight (when a sausage sizzle fires up in the forecourt - performance starts at 6:00pm). South Burnett Pantry - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). The South Burnett Regional Council will be holding a Free Community Breakfast outside the South Burnett Private Hospital in Markwell Street, Kingaroy from 7:00am to 8:30am this morning to thank the public for supporting the campaign to keep the facility operating in the region. Mayor Wayne Kratzmann will officially announce the number of submissions the campaign received in the last week, and there'll be free tours of the hospital available as well. Unveiling Of Charlotte The Emu Memorial Statue - Wondai
The Charlotte The Emu Memorial Committee will be officially unveiling sculptor Dan Davie's (pictured) solid steel tribute to Wondai's much-loved former town emu Charlotte at the Wondai Markets at 9:30am this morning. Over the last year the Committee has conducted a fundraising drive to build a permanent community memorial to the emu, and the wraps will officially come off today. The unveiling will be held in Coronation Park across the road from Wondai's IGA Supermarket and will open with a performance of "Old Man Emu" by Wondai State School students. This will be followed by a short address by Mayor Waynme Kratzmann, and then Winston Burrows from the Wondai Town Band will tell how he rescued Charlotte's body after she was run down by a motorist and buried her near the Wondai Tennis Courts (a favourite haunt). After this, the statue will be unveiled while the Wondai CWA Choir sing their own upbeat version of "Old Man Emu". Everyone is welcome! Danny's Diner - a free community dinner - will be held at the Uniting Church Hall at the corner of Alford and Youngman streets in Kingaroy from 5:30pm to 7:00pm tonight. The dinner is an initiative of the Kingaroy District Ministry Association for the benefit of anyone who's hungry or otherwise doing it tough. The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items).
