Widgee Campdraft
CANCELLED: The first day of the annual three-day Widgee Campdraft (aka the Widgee Bushman's Carnival) will get underway at 6:00am this morning at the Widgee Showgrounds at Widgee, north of Kilkivan. The main event on today's program will be the Ladies Draft, and it will run right through the day into late afternoon. A licensed bar and canteen will be operating on site, and the canteen wil be offering hot meals this evening too. There are also full camping facilities in the grounds. South Burnett Pantry
The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 11:00am to 1:00pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $35 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). Art Exhibition Opening - Wondai
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery will be opening their fourth monthly exhibition for 2015 with a wine and cheese tasting at 6:00pm tonight - and it will be held at the Wondai Town Hall in Mackenzie Street while renovation work on the Gallery's own building continues. This month the gallery will have three exhibitions on display: "Variety" by the Wondai Art Group on Sundays; "A Family Affair" put together by the Postle family and covering a variety of media; and "Tole'd In Paper", a paper tole exhibition by Kingaroy craftworker Rosemarie Matthews-Frederick and her students which showcases their paper tole creations. As usual, tonight's opening will also feature great cold finger foods and punch, along with wine tastings, live entertainment and great socialising. Yarraman & District Historical Society Open Day
The Yarraman & District Historical Society will be holding a special Open Day at Heritage House at 75 Millar Street in Yarraman today. A highlight of the event will be the official opening of the Yarraman Historical Society's new Military Museum by Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott. The museum display was made possible by the closure of the Burnett War Museum in Kingaroy last year and the gifting of most of their collection of military memorabilia to the Yarraman Historical Society. The Open Day will also feature tours of the historic former convent (ie the main Heritage House building) and other historic buildings in the museum's grounds, and morning and afternoon teas will be available as well. Proston Rally
CANCELLED: The Proston Car Rally Club will be holding their second quarterly CAMS Khanacross Multiclub Rally for 2015 at their racing track this weekend. The Club's track is located 7.5km west of Proston on the Proston-Boondooma Road, and racing will commence around 12:00 noon this morning and conclude around 1:30pm tomorrow. Up to 50 cars attend Proston Rally Club meetings from all over Queensland and NSW and spectators are very welcome. There'll be a BBQ and soft drinks stand running throughout the event, as well as a hearty breakfast supplied by the Proston Lions club early on Sunday morning. Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. Lucas Oils Kingaroy Speedway
CANCELLED: The South Burnett Speedway will be roaring into life from 4:00pm this afternoon in the main ring of the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street for the club's traditional Kingaroy Show meeting. Racing this afternoon and evening will feature Wingless Sprints competing for the 2015 Queensland Title along with bone-jarring runs by Late Models, Modified Sedans, Street Stocks and Junior Sedans. Speedway admission on Show night is just $10 for adults, $8 for pensioners or students, or $30 per family with under-12s free - but if you come to the Kingaroy Show you can get in for free as a bonus. Men's Breakfast - Kingaroy
A special Men's Breakfast will be held at the Presbyterian Church Hall at 48 Alford Street in Kingaroy at 7:30am this morning. In addition to a great breeakfast, Donald Woodland OAM, a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Salvation Army, will be a special guest speaker. Donald is an authority on Trauma Management and Critical Incident Support and has had experience in many incidents, including Sydney's Granville rail disaster. Goodbye & Hello Party - Wondai
The Wondai Hotel & Cellar will be holding a "Goodbye & Hello Party" from 6:00pm until late tonight to farewell owners Michael & Jessica Beohm and welcome the new owners who'll be taking over the 110-year-old building shortly. Michael and Jessica extensively renovated and re-opened the wooden hotel in October 2013, and in December that same year gave the town of Wondai another gift: the only known reproduction of the iconic "Chloe" painting which lives at Young & Jackson’s Hotel in Melbourne. Since then the hotel has been a hub of Wondai socialising and many comunity fund-raising activities. Tonight there'll be a spit roast wood fired buffet on offer, along with with music from resident duo Helen and Deano (aka Deal'n). Everyone is welcome and while there may be a bit of table-dancing at some point, there's unlikely to be a dry eye in the house as the popular couple bid adieu to their patrons.

Wondai Firies Charity Golf Day
The 7th annual Wondai Firies Charity Golf Day - a fundraiser for RACQ CareFlight Rescue and the QFES "Bike For Burns" charity bike ride - will be held at the Wondai Country Club on the Bunya Highway today. This is a fun social event for golfers and non-golfers alike with a 10:00am tee-off, and a sausage sizzle wil be running all day too if you get peckish. 2015 Kingaroy Show
REDUCED FORMAT: The first day of the two-day 2015 Kingaroy Show will be held at Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street from 8:00am this morning (when the gates open to the public and miniature horse events commence next to the woodchop area) until late tonight when the Kingaroy Speedway winds down. This year's Show will feature an Australian National Saddle Horse Feature Show; Freestyle Motorbike Events running at Cheers Triangle; donkey rides for kids; wood-chopping competitions; chainsaw events (also at Cheers Triangle); stud beef and stud dairy cattle judging; smallgoods making demonstrations in the Kucks Pavilion; sheep-shearing and Tae-Kwon-Do demonstrations; a Truck Show; whip-cracking by St John's Lutheran School and the Kingaroy Junior Motorcycle Speedway (both in the main ring) and lots more, including a jaw-dropping Sideshow Alley that's always the biggest in the region. The Show's official opening will occur in the main ring at 1:30pm and be followed by the Grand Parade. Then the Kingaroy Speedway will roar into life around 4:00pm (see entry further below); and there'll be a Giant Fireworks Show at 7:30pm that will light up the night sky. Saturday Soccer - Kingaroy and Murgon
PARTIALLY CANCELLED: After a one-week break for Anzac Day, the fourth round of the 2015 South Burnett Evolution Solar Football League competition will be played in Murgon and Kingaroy this afternoon. In Murgon, Barambah will play Nanango at the Murgon soccer fields in Macalister Street, with 2nd Division hitting the park at 2:00pm; Women's Division at 3:30pm and 1st Division at 5:00pm. And in Kingaroy, Gunners will play Wests, with 2nd Division kicking off at 2:00pm, Women's Division playing at 3:30pm and 1st Division at 5:00pm. A bar and canteen will be running at both venues, admission is free and spectators are very welcome! Note: In Senior soccer, the Barambah v Nanango games to have been played in Murgon have been postponed, and a decision about the Gunners v Wests games in Kingaroy will be made on Saturday morning. And in Junior soccer, games scheduled for Saturday at Wondai - Squirts and U6s through to U10/11s - have also been postponed; and a decision about the U12/13 and Cadet games will be made on Saturday morning.

2015 Kingaroy Show
The final day of the weekend-long 2015 Kingaroy Show will be held at Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street from 8:00am this morning (when the gates open to the public and miniature horse events commence next to the woodchop area) until late this afternoon. Today's Show will focus on horse events in the centre rings and show-jumping in the main ring, but there'll also be a Barnyard Chooks Competition for children in the Poultry Pavilion at 8:30am and lots of other pavillion displays to explore from that time onwards too. Other things to look out for today include smallgoods demonstrations in the Kucks Pavillion with meat tray raffles held each session; the judging of this year's Ute Show at 9:45am; sheep shearing demonstrations; Freestyle Motorcycle Events at Cheers Triangle; and pet Guinea Pig judging at 1:00pm. There'll also be lots of vintage machinery displays (tractors, bikes, and stationary motors); chainsawing; whip-cracking; free wagon rides for both children and adults; reptile displays; and an Australia's Living History show that will feature demonstrations of rope-making and broom-making, along with an authentic bush camp and working dogs shepherding chooks. As always, the Show will also have a jaw-dropping Sideshow Alley running - always the biggest in the region - and there'll be a lot more happening as well. The South Burnett PCYC will be holding a South Burnett Charity Golf Day at the Murgon Golf Club on the Bunya Highway north of town today, with a 10:00am tee-off. The event is a fundraiser for the Cherbourg Junior Rangers and youth leadership programs for Murgon and Cherbourg's youth, and the $30 entry fee includes 18-hole green fees. Silver Serenade - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Musical Comedy Society will be celebrating the group's 25th anniversary with "Silver Serenade" at Kingaroy RSL's Tobruk Room in Markwell Street, Kingaroy from 6:30pm until late tonight (show starts at 7:00pm). 93rd Annual Burrandowan Picnic Races
The 93rd annual Burrandowan Picnic Races - a South Burnett tradition since 1922 and one of Queensland's most famous picnic race meetings - will be held at the Burrandowan Race Track 66km southwest of Kingaroy from early this morning (when clay target shooting blasts into action) until very late tonight (when the last exhausted race-goer drops off to sleep). This year's bumper seven-race program will get underway at 12:30pm and there'll also be a Fashions of the Field competition with more than $4000 in prizes; a fully licensed bar operating from around 11:00am; good country food available all day from the race club's canteen; and the traditional Burrandowan pit-fired barbecues and sizzling steaks at night. This year attendees can dance the night away under the stars with entertainers Kerry Kennedy and Double Barrel or take advantage of shuttle buses that will be running from Kingaroy to Burrandowan and back again for the benefit of those who'd rather party hard than drive (you can get full details about these on the Burrandowan Picnic Races web site). Mothers Day Classic Fun Run/Walk - Kingaroy
The annual Mother's Day Classic Community Fun Run / Walk this morning to raise funds for breast cancer research is being organised today in Kingaroy by Zarly Anne's Fitness. The Mother's Day Classic was established in 1998. Its purpose is to raise money for breast cancer research, to increase awareness of breast cancer within the community and to support and remember those affected by breast cancer. The Classic is a national event which was originally brought to the South Burnett by the Go Getta Girls running club in 2012. This is a fun morning with either a 4k walk/run or a 8k run on offer. Participants will follow a course from Memorial Park along Haly Street and West Streets with temporary road closures, supervised by SES and police - a completely safe event. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). 81st Annual Blackbutt Show
The 81st annual Blackbutt Show will be held at the Blackbutt Showgrounds in Hart Street, Blackbutt from 8:00am this morning until late tonight. This year's Show will feature a full range of horse events (anything from led breed and ridden breed through to hacks and rider classes). There'll also be a big roll-up of stud cattle and poultry; the popular woodchop and chainsawing competitions; lots of ring events; a Dog Show; a miniature goat section; a Ute Muster; and plenty of fun for children including face painting, circus games and piglet racing. As usual the Show will also feature a great spread of pavilion exhibits; sideshow alley; showbags; and trade displays. 2nd Annual Reconciliation Fun Run


The 2nd annual Reconciliation Fun Run will be run between Murgon and Cherbourg this morning, kicking off at 8:00am at the Murgon Showgrounds and proceeding along the highway and Cherbourg Road (which will be closed to traffic for the event) to the Ration Shed Museum at Barambah Avenue in Cherbourg, where it will be followed by a day of games, foods, dance, music, stalls, workshops and displays. The Reconciliation Fun Run is open to everyone, from school children to adults, older people, families, people with disabilities, sporting clubs or corporate/workplace teams. The 7 km course can be run, walked or travelled in a pram or wheelchair. The aim of the day is for participants and spectators to have fun and last year's inaugural event drew raves from everyone who attended. Million Paws Walk - Kingaroy
The South Burnett's RSPCA Million Paws Walk - one of the major annual fundraisers for the Kingaroy RSPCA - will be held at Memorial Park in Haly Street, Kingaroy from 8:00am this morning (when Walk registrations will commence - the walk gets underway at 9:00am) until around 1:00pm this afternoon. Owners can bring their well-behaved dogs along for a 4km circuit walk - which takes about an hour or so - and then follow things up with the family by enjoying a community sausage sizzle, an egg-and-spoon race, costume awards, or taking part in the many other things that will be on offer. These include a mobile hydrobath; micro-chipping; face-painting for children; market stalls; great coffee; a jumping castle; and much more. Entry to the walk costs $20 for adults, $12 for concessions (pensioners, students) or $50 for a family of four and all proceeds of this morning's efforts will go to the Kingaroy RSPCA to help them look after the South Burnett's unwanted and/or abused pets. The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). The South Burnett Evolution Solar Football League competition will be taking a one-week break this weekend so the annual President's Cup competition can be played between the teams currently leading the points table in the Football League's three divisions. Mayor's Gala Charity Ball - Kingaroy
The 2015 Mayor's Gala Charity Ball will be held at the Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy from 6:00pm until late tonight. The Ball is a major fundraiser for the Mayor's Community Benefit Fund, which distributes grants several times every year to South Burnett not-for-profit community groups who might not be able to obtain funding from other sources, and it's rapidly grown to be one of the social highlights of the region as well. The third round of the South Burnett Rugby League's 2015 senior competition will be played in Wondai and Murgon today. Fresh from their demolition of the luckless Lockyer Valley Demons last Sunday, which has put the South Burnett Saints at equal first place with Dalby on the top of the 2nd division competition ladder, Round 7 of the 2015 Darling Downs AFL competition will be played at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy today (not Sunday, as has been the case until now). Games will kick off at 11:30am when the U16s Saints play against Coolaroo. This wlll be followed by the men's match at 1:10pm, and then women's game at 3:00pm. Today's matches will be the Saints' second home game in seven days and all the teams will be keen to turn on a good performance for the home crowd, as well as maintain or improve their current leading position. Kingaroy Lions Trail Ride - Chahpingah
The first day of the weekend-long Kingaroy Lions Trail Ride will be held at 'Minmore' at Chahpingah, 36km west of Kingaroy, from 8:00am this morning through until late this afternoon (look for the signs off the Bunya Highway past the Kingaroy Golf Club). This annual 2-day event is a fundraiser for the Kingaroy Lions and Careflight and last year attracted more than 600 riders. It's a non-competitive trail ride open to all classes of dirt bikes (no quads) featuring a brand new 50Km fast open trail with a few challenges to keep it interesting on Saturday, and tomorrow the famous 55Km Sandy Creek loop. A novice and Pee Wee circuits will also be in operation. Free camping is available with hot showers and toilets, as well as on-site food catering from Saturday through to Sunday lunch. Nanango Race Club Autumn Meeting
The Nanango Race Club will be holding their popular annual Autumn Race Meeting at the Lee Park Raceway off the D'Aguilar Highway just south of Nanango from 12:30pm to around 4:30pm this afternoon. Today's meeting will have a "Vivid Velvet & Vintage" theme and everyone is encouraged to dress up in their best outfits to be in the running for some great Moffatdale Ridge Fashions Of The Field spot prizes. After a week's break for the annual President's Cup playoffs, the seventh round of the 2015 South Burnett Evolution Solar Football League competition will be played at Nanango and Kingaroy this afternoon. In Nanango, home team Panthers will play Barambah at the Nanango soccer fields in Burnett Street, with 2nd Division hitting the park at 12:30pm; Women's Division at 2:00pm and 1st Division at 3:15pm. The monthly Bunya Mountains Markets will also be running at Dandabah in the Bunya Mountains today. The markets feature up to 30 stands selling quality, locally-produced fresh produce, arts and crafts and they'll be operating from 9:00am to 2:00pm. Local cafes like Poppies On The Hill and The Bunya Mountains Cafe will be offering special Market Day menus and morning teas, lunches and afternoon teas (as well as Seafood Sunday at Lyrics licensed restaurant - see entry above), and walking trail maps will be available from both cafes, the Bunya Mountains General Store and market stalls if you'd like to take a walk through the adjoining National Park.

Goomeri Pumpkin Festival
The 19th Annual Goomeri Pumpkin Festival will be held in Goomeri from 6:00am this morning through until around 5:00pm this afternoon. As usual, the 2015 Pumpkin Festival will feature a wide range of market and novelty stalls; all-day live entertainment; Giant Pumpkin and Best Decorated Pumpkin competitions; and the Great Australian Pumpkin Roll down Policeman's Hill at around 2:00pm in the afternoon with a Lucky Spot prize of $1000 and lots of other cash prizes for section winners. Other things to look out for include cooking demonstrations; live entertainment; antique car and bike displays; billy tea, damper and stew in Dickinson Park (along with an all-day BBQ and lots and lots of food stalls); market stalls in the streets; roving entertainers; and more. Kingaroy Lions Trail Ride - Chahpingah
The second (and final) day of the weekend-long Kingaroy Lions Trail Ride will be held at at 'Minmore' at Chahpingah, 36km west of Kingaroy, from 8:00am this morning through until late this afternoon (look for the signs off the Bunya Highway past the Kingaroy Golf Club). This annual 2-day event is a fundraiser for the Kingaroy Lions and Careflight and last year attracted more than 600 riders. It's a non-competitive trail ride open to all classes of dirt bikes (no quads) and today it will feature the famous 55Km Sandy Creek loop. A novice and Pee Wee circuits will also be in operation.
