Kingaroy Show Cabaret Ball
You'd be an April Fool to miss this! The annual Kingaroy Show Cabaret Ball, the traditional curtain-raiser for the Kingaroy Show which will run on May 6-7, will be held at the Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy from 6:00pm until late tonight. This fully licensed affair offers live music (this year, with the incredible Memphis Moovers) and a great roast dinner, dessert and supper. Dinner will be served at 7:00pm and dancing will get underway at 8:00pm. The Ball will also see the judging and announcement of Kingaroy's Miss Showgirl and Rural Ambassador for 2017, along with Junior Showgirl and Junior Rural Ambassador (for young people 12-17), and Show Prince and Princess (for children under 12). Tickets to this year's Kingaroy Show Cabaret Ball are $30 per adult (or $55 with a meal); $15 for children aged 12-17 (or $40 with a meal); and children under 12 are admitted free, but can get a meal for $10. Tickets can be obtained in advance from Coppards Menswear in Kingaroy Street; Raine and Horne's offices in Haly Street; at the Kingaroy Show office at the Youngman Street showgrounds; or by contacting Ros Tigel on 0428-228-839. No meal tickets will be available at the door, and they need to be booked by March 27, but non-dinner tickets will be available at the door tonight.

Art Exhibition Opening - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery in Haly Street (opposite the peanut silos) will be opening their latest monthly exhibition at 10:00am this morning. This month's "Autumn Antics Art Exhibition" showcases the diverse work of the Jumping Ants Art Group, whose 14 members work in everything from painting, printing and textiles to ceramics, jewellery, clay sculpture and mixed media. There'll also be raffles this morning for art prizes, and refreshments will be served as well. A working studio will be running throughout April in conjunction with the exhibition, providing demonstrations and workshops (a full program is available on the Jumping Ants website. Everyone is welcome and admission is free.

Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and routinely attract 300 to 400 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Creative Art Workshop - Wondai
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery at 40 Haly Street in Wondai will be holding two Creative Art Workshops for school children this morning as a school holiday activity. The first workshop will be for children aged 6-11 and will begin at 9:00am; the second will be for young people aged 12-18 and will begin at 12:30pm. Children attending either workshop should bring along a $10 workshop fee and a pair of cheap white canvas tennis shoes that they can paint up and decorate. Dance - Inverlaw Hall
A dance will be held at Inverlaw Hall on the Burrandowan Road (roughly 20km from Kingaroy) from 8:00pm until late this evening. Music will be supplied by Chattanooga and there'll be the usual great supper and novelties, along with a Lucky Door draw. Super Saturday Soccer - Kingaroy
CANCELLED: The South Burnett's 2017 soccer season will hold its second round today, and all matches will be held at Tom Alford Oval in Oliver Bond Street, Kingaroy because today's get-together will be a Super Saturday where spectators can get to watch all this year's teams in action at the one venue, as well as enjoy a bumper day of soccer. The day will get underway at 11:00am when 2nd Division teams Wests and Panthers battle it out, followed at 12:30pm by a clash between the Barambah Bears and Gunners. After this, the Women's Division will take to the park at 2:00pm when Wests play Panthers, followed at 3:30pm when the Gunnettes take on the lady Bears. The really big action will follow at 5:00pm in 1st Division when Wests play Nanango, followed by Gunners and Barambah at 7:30pm. A canteen will be open on the grounds all day, admission is free and spectators are very welcome! Note: Due to heavy rain on Thursday saturating Tom Alford Oval, this event has been cancelled.

Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the group is free to join. Gympie/South Burnett Division Handcraft School - Murgon
The QCWA's annual two-day Gympie/South Burnett Division Handcraft School will be held at the Murgon QCWA rooms in McAlister Street, Murgon from 8:30am to 3:00pm today and tomorrow. Six different crafts will be taught - Candle wicking by Elaine Ballin; Australian Crosses by Judith Marek; American Smocking by Diedre Lee; Sashiko by Lois Thurecht; Pattern Darning by Lyn Eggleton; and Beading by Melissa Dunn. Participants don't have to be QCWA members to attend, and they can attend for one day only if they wish. However, spaces are limited so a booking is essential. SR Automotive Manumbar Rally - Nanango
The SR Automotive Manumbar Rally - the first round of the Queensland Rally Championship - will kick off from the Peanut Wagon at Tipperary Flat on the D'Aguilar Highway south of the CBD at 7:00am this morning. The rally will run through the Manumbar and Gallangowan foresty areas for most of the day. Various spectator points will be set up along the route, and spectators are also welcome to join in the post-race festivities in the evening after the race concludes. The rally's headquarters will be at the Manumbar Campdraft Association Grounds, and the Campdraft Association will be providing catering all weekend. Kumbia Museum
The Kumbia and District Historical Society's museum, located in the Federation Heritage Centre behind Kumbia Hall in Bell Street, will be open from 1:30pm to 3:30pm this afternoon. Seafood Sunday Buffet - Bunya Mountains
Lyrics Restaurant at Dandabah in the Bunya Mountains - just behind the Bunya Mountains General Store - will be holding their monthly "Seafood Sunday" from 11:00am onwards today (lunch will be served from around noon). The monthly Wondai Home Produce Share will be held outside Dimities Cottage at 49 Haly Street in Wondai's CBD from 9:00am to about 10:30am this morning. The share is for people who have excess home produce they would like to swap or gift to others (non-food items can also be swapped) and the event has been organised by the South Burnett Permaculture group. Maidenwell Markets
If you're heading up to the Bunya Mountains today, go via Maidenwell and you can browse the Maidenwell Markets at the Maidenwell Sportsgrounds (just next to the Rural Fire Brigade HQ in the heart of town) between 8:00am and 12:00 noon this morning. These markets offer a range of arts and crafts, local produce, plants, home baking, bric-a-brac, sauces, jams, chutneys, coffee, food and lots more (there's even a jumping castle for children). The aim of the meeting is to support a recent decision by the South Burnett Regional Council to declare the South Burnett a motorcycle friendly region, and carry that decision further. The main public day of the 108th Annual Nanango Show will get underway at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street, Nanango at 6:00am this morning when the gates open and stud cattle and horse judging begins. There'll be all the usual show fun including chainsawing (11:00am); the official opening (2:00pm); trotting (2:30pm); woodchopping (3:00pm); a rodeo (4:00pm to 6:00pm); wrestling (5:00pm, 7:00pm and 8:45pm); Glen Albrecht (6:00pm); an auction (7:30pm); the Ring Of Fire horse spectacular (8:00pm); fireworks (8:30pm); and a Dirt Bike Derby (9:00pm). Yarraman Walk Of Faith

The first day of the 3rd annual Maidenwell Running Festival (formerly known as the Maidenwell Marathon) will be held at Maidenwell today. As the name suggests, the Marathon is for runners and walkers and there will be 9 events over three days, ranging from 2.2km to a 56km ultra-marathon. Whatever your fitness or competitive level - and no matter whether you're walking or running - the festival has a distance to suit everyone. Today the Festival will kick off at the Maidenwell Sports Grounds at 1:00pm, where runners will have the choice of a half or full marathon course. And tonight, volunteers will be preparing a fish and salad meal in the Maidenwell Hotel's dining room for participants and guests. The Kingaroy District Ministers Association will hold a free Good Friday Country Gospel concert at the Kingaroy Town Hall forecourt in Glendon Street at 6:00pm this evening. Wondai Autumn Garden Expo
The first day of the weekend long Wondai Autumn Garden Expo will be held at the Wondai Sports Grounds off the Bunya Highway just north of Wondai's CBD from 8:00am this morning through until 4:30pm this afternoon. The Expo is one of the largest gardening shows of its type in south-east Queensland, and it always draws thousands of keen gardeners to Wondai every April. This year (for the eighth year running) it's being held in conjunction with the South Burnett Orchid Society's Annual Show, which will be staged at the nearby Wondai Diggers Club in Mackenzie Street, Wondai from 9:30am to 3:00pm; and the Wondai Art Gallery are also running a special exhibition on a floral theme too - so make sure you check out all three venues! As well as the usual huge range of plant and garden-related product displays, the Expo will also feature a number of interesting and well-informed guest speakers talking on a variety of gardening topics throughout the day. The first day of the three-day Kumbia & District Charity Campdraft will be held at the Kumbia Sports Grounds off Bell Street in Kumbia from 6:00am this morning when the canteen opens and begins serving up Big Country Breakfasts through until late this afternoon. This year's Campdraft will have a bumper field of competitors and will be offering some really great Easter campdrafting action. Today's action will feature the first rounds of the Open, Restricted Open and Novice events, and tonight participants and spectators can enjoy a two course roast meal and dessert at the canteen, or a barbecue at the Old Bar, along with live entertainment, a multi-prize draw and a Restricted Open calcutta, a Painted Beast and novelty sporting events for children. The Nanango Race Club will be holding their Easter Race Meeting at the Lee Park Raceway off the D'Aguilar Highway just south of Nanango from 11:00am to around 5:00pm today. Today's races will have an "Easter Bonnets, Bowlers and Cottontails" theme and everyone is encouraged to dress up in their best Easter outfits and/or accessories to be in the running for some great Moffatdale Ridge Fashions Of The Field prizes. Maidenwell Bull Ride
The annual Maidenwell Bull Ride will be held behind the Maidenwell Hotel from 5:00pm until late tonight to wrap up the three-day Maidenwell Running Festival. There'll also be a barbecue dinner available at the hotel, and after the bull ride winds down there'll be live music performed by Boots’n'Bandits, a top flight band that recently performed in Tamworth, playing until late tonight. There's an admission fee to get in to see the Bull Ride, which runs in a restricted access area, but no admission fee if you just want to see the band. Maidenwell Running Festival
The third and final day of the 3rd annual Maidenwell Running Festival (formerly known as the Maidenwell Marathon) will be held at Maidenwell today. As the name suggests, the Marathon is for runners and walkers, and today will offer the biggest choice of events, ranging from a half or full marathon that starts at 6:00am; a 10km run that starts at 7:00am; a 5km run that starts at 8:15am; or a modest 2.2km run that starts at 9:15am. All runs will start and finish at the Maidenwell Sports Ground, and while they're happening there'll be an Easter Egg hunt and other fun activities for children. The nearby Maidenwell Rural Fire Brigade will also be holding an Open Day from 8:00am to 4:00pm where visitors can inspect their equipment and pick up handy literature. Wondai Autumn Garden Expo
The second (and final) day of the weekend long Wondai Autumn Garden Expo will be held at the Wondai Sports Grounds off the Bunya Highway just north of Wondai's CBD from 8:00am this morning through until 1:00pm this afternoon. The Expo is one of the largest gardening shows of its type in south-east Queensland, and it always draws thousands of keen gardeners to Wondai every April. The first day of the week-long Spirit Of The Bush Balladeers & Heritage Muster will be held at Boondooma Homestead at 8262 Durong-Mundubbera Road, Boondooma today. This popular annual campout week features lots of Australia's top bush balladeers and poets (51 will be appearing at the Muster this year) along with walk-up artists. BYO 20km Horse Ride - Benarkin
Horsetrax Oz will be holding a BYO 20km horse ride through the Benarkin Trail Reserve today for a maximum of four riders. The ride will depart opposite the historic Benarkin Store at 10:00am, and travel along Benarkin forestry tracks to the Bora Ring for a smoko at the Rail Trail. The cost of the ride is $15 (to cover insurance) and participants should bring along their own smoko, or cash for the Benarkin Store so they can buy some before the ride departs. The sixth day of the week-long Spirit Of The Bush Balladeers & Heritage Muster will be held at Boondooma Homestead at 8262 Durong-Mundubbera Road, Boondooma today. This popular annual campout week features lots of Australia's top bush balladeers and poets (51 will be appearing at the Muster this year) along with walk-up artists. The Muster routinely attracts 700 to 800 caravanners plus day-trippers, and in addition to bucketloads of non-stop great music there'll also be great camp oven meals, a licensed bar, BBQ, stalls, displays of vintage cars and engines, photography and historical items. Wondai Anzac Day Race Meeting
The South Burnett Race Club will be holding their 44th Anzac Day Race Meeting at the Wondai race track today in aid of Legacy. Today's meeting will feature an on-course TAB; live telecasts of interstate races and interstate betting fluctuations; a vigorous undercover betting ring; a great BBQ and bar; the Lady Luck Cocktail Bar; and a card of five races. Gates will open at 11:30am and the first race will leave the barriers at around 1:40pm. Everyone is welcome and admission is $10. Anzac Day
Today is Anzac Day, a national public holiday when the nation pauses to remember the sacrifices of tens of thousands of Australians who have fought for the democratic principles our country is committed to in conflicts all over the world. Most South Burnett businesses will either be closed completely today or operating on restricted hours (ie from noon onwards) as a mark of respect. Anzac Day commemorative services will be held throughout the region from 4:27am onwards: the same time the original ANZACs began their assault on the beaches of Gallipoli 102 years ago. Here's where they'll be held:

  • Blackbutt-Benarkin will be marking Anzac Day with a Dawn Service at the Memorial at the corner of Hart and Coulson Streets at 4:27am; and then a Commemoration service at the Coulson Street memorial at 11:00am.

  • Boondooma and Durong will hold a commemoration and wreath-laying service at 9:00am at Boondooma Homestead at 8262 Durong-Mundubbera Road.

  • Bunya Mountains will hold a wreath-laying service at the Lone Pine in the Dandabah camping area at 8:00am.

  • Cherbourg will hold a Commemoration Service at 8:00am, followed by a morning tea at the Ration Shed Museum.

  • Hivesville will hold at Dawn Service in Main Street at 5:30am, followed by a community breakfast in Anzac Park opposite the Hivesville Hotel

  • Kingaroy will hold a Dawn Service at the rotunda in Memorial Park at 4:27am, followed by a pilgrimage to the War Service Graves at Taabinga Cemetery at 8:00am. At 10:30am, marchers taking part in the annual march should assemble at Kingaroy RSL for an 11:00am march to Memorial Park, where there will be a citizen's observance at 11:10am.

  • Kumbia will mark Anzac Day with a march. Marchers should assemble at the flower garden at the northern end of Bell Street at 8:45am for a 9:00am step off, which will be followed by a Commemoration Service at 9:00am.

  • Maidenwell will mark Anzac Day with a QCWA morning tea at Maidenwell Hall at 9:30am, followed by a wreath laying at the Maidenwell War Memorial at 10:30am.

  • Murgon will hold a fellowship at the Murgon RSL Club at 4:45am, followed by a Dawn Service at the Murgon War Memorial at 5:30am. Marchers in the annual parade should assemble in the RSL's rear car park at 9:00am for a 9:45am step off, which will be followed by a Commemoration Service and wreath laying at the Memorial at 10:00am.

  • Nanango will hold a fellowship for RSL Sub-branch members and their families, visiting veterans and ex defence personnel at Taras Hall at 5:00am, then a march from the RSL to the Memorial at 5:20am, where a Dawn Service will be held at 5:30am. This will be followed by a pilgrimage to the Veterans Graves at Nanango Cemetery at 7:00am. Participants in the annual Anzac Day march should assemble in Howlett Lane at 8:15am for an 8:45am step off, followed by a Commemoration Service at the War Memorial at the corner of Drayton and Henry Streets at 9:00am.

  • Proston will hold a Dawn Service at the Proston RSL Rooms in Collingwood Street at 5:30am.

  • Wondai will hold a Dawn Service at 5:00am, which will be accompanied by a march from the Post Office along Mackenzie Street to the War Memorial. At 8:00am there will be a pilgrimage to the War Service Graves at the Wondai Cemetery, followed by a 10:00am Commemoration Service, wreath laying and procession at the War Memorial outside Wondai Town Hall.

  • Wooroolin will hold a parade at 11:00am, followed by a Commemoration Service at the Wooroolin Memorial Hall at 11:15am.

  • Yarraman will hold a Dawn Service at the Cenotaph in Memorial Park at 6:00am, followed by a pilgrimage to the War Service Graves at 7:30am. At 10:45am, marchers should assemble to attend the main service at the Cenotaph at 11:00am for a commemorative service, which will be followed by a community lunch at Yarraman's Memorial Hall in Browne Street.

    Widgee will hold a Dawn Service at 6:00am at the Widgee Cenotaph, followed by a 7:00am breakfast at the Memorial Hall, and then an Anzac Day Parade leaving from principal's residence next to Widgee School at 8:30am. The main commemoration service will commence immediately after the parade ends

Wednesday Night Soccer - Kingaroy
Wests' women's side will play the lady Panthers at Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street in Kingaroy at 6:30pm tonight. The match is a catch-up game from April 1 (Round 2), which was cancelled because of ex-Cyclone Debbie. Spectators are very welcome.

Saturday Rugby League - Murgon, Kingaroy and Nanango
There won't be any senior rugby league games played in the South Burnett this weekend because of the 47th Battalion competition in Rockhampton, but league fans who enjoy junior games have plenty of options. In Murgon, in the U18s competition, the South Burnett Eagles will play Pittsworth at the Macalister Street Showgrounds at 11:30am. In Kingaroy, Kingaroy will play Wondai in the U6s at 9:00am; U8s at 9:45am; U10s at 10:45am; and U12s at noon. This will be followed by a clash between Kingaroy and Cherbourg's U14s at 1:00pm, and then Kingaroy vs the combined Wondai and Murgon U16s at 2:15pm. And in Nanango, U6s and U8s will play at 9:00am; U10s at 10:00am; and U12s at 11:00am. This will be followed with an U12s clash against Dalby at 1:00pm; Nanango vs Chinchilla U16s at 2:00pm; and then Nanango vs Chinchilla U14s at 3:00pm. Canteens will be running at all venues and spectators are very welcome.

Saturday Soccer - Kingaroy
Although there are no official South Burnett soccer matches scheduled for today, soccer fans can get to enjoy two clashes between Barambah and Gunners' men's teams at Tom Alford Oval in Oliver Bond Street, Kingaroy, with the 2nd Division teams hitting the park at 2:00pm and the 1st Division sides toeing the turf at 4:00pm. The matches are both "catch up" games for the Super Saturday set down for April 1, which had to be cancelled at the last minute thanks to ex-Cyclone Debbie. Nanango Kindergarten Golf Day
The Nanango Kindergarten will be holding a Golf Day at the Nanango Golf Club on the D'Aguilar Highway north of town today as a fundraiser. It will taker the form of a two-person ambrose, and nominations will close at 10:00am for a 10:30am shotgun start, followed by a mega raffle draw and auction. There'll be lots of great prizes on offer and all proceeds will go to aid the kindy. Everyone is welcome!

Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the group is free to join. Pig On A Spit Night - Maidenwell
Maidenwell's historic Maidenwell Hotel will be holding another of their popular monthly Pig On A Spit evenings from 6:00pm until late tonight (dinner is served from 6:00pm to 8:00pm). There'll be live entertainment from a local performer and lots of cold beer, along with more pork than you can poke a fork at, all served up with with roast potatoes, pumpkin, corn, peas, carrots, applesauce and gravy! Dichroic Glass Workshop - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery in Haly Street, Kingaroy (opposite the peanut silos) will be holding an all day Dichroic glass art workshops from 8:30am this morning. Kaimkillenbun Trail Ride
The Kaimkillenbun P&C will be holding their 19th annual Kaimkillenbun Trail Ride through farm paddocks and the foothills of the Bunya Mountains at Kaimkillenbun today and tomorrow as a fundraiser. The ride will offer an Open Track, and U16s Track, a Novice Track and a Pee Wee Track on Saturday, and the Open Track again on Sunday. Today there'll be a briefing at 9:45am before the track opens at 10:00am, and racing will continue until 2:00pm. On Sunday, the briefing will occur at 8:45am with racing from 9:00am to 2:00pm. Fees range from $10 for insured Pee Wees through to $75 for uninsured Open Track riders and this includes a free burger - but it's a strictly cash-only event. The monthly Bunya Mountains Markets will be running at Dandabah in the Bunya Mountains today. R&R Rail Trail Duathlon - Blackbutt
Blackbutt will be playing host to more than 150 extra visitors today. They'll be taking part in the 4th annual R&R Rail Trail Duathlon - a series of running and cycling athletic contests that will take place on the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail. Competitors in the duathlon come from all over south east Queensland to participate, and racing will get underway early this morning and conclude towards lunch time.
