Alcoholics Anonymous - Kingaroy
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other to help solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership. A.A. isn't allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organisation or institution. The Kingaroy Concerned Citizens Group will be holding a public meeting at Wondai Town Hall in Mackenzie Street, Wondai at 7:00pm tonight to discuss a proposal by Moreton Resources to resume large sections of the South Burnett Rail Trail and build rail bypasses around several South Burnett towns so the company can get coal from its proposed mine near Kingaroy to a port. Art Exhibition Opening - Wondai
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery on the roundabout at Wondai will be opening their latest monthly exhibition with a wine and cheese tasting at 6:00pm tonight. This month the gallery will be hosting "Two Pastellists" by well-known South Burnett artists Karol Oakley and Joanne Tollefson in the main gallery, along with works by Lance Lamb (third gallery) and Lee Barker (front gallery), while children from St Joseph's Primary School will be exhibiting in Kidz Korner. South Burnett Pantry - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). The Wondai Hotel in Haly Street, Wondai will be holding its first Saturday of the month spitroast from 4:00pm until late today. Bushy's Farewell Charity Dinner - Kingaroy
Kingaroy police prosecutor Sergeant Wayne Bushell will be retiring soon, and to mark the occasion he'll be holding a farewell charity dinner at Kingaroy Town Hall from 6:00pm until midnight. This licensed event will include curry (a dish that Bushy is famous for), Barkers Creek pork loin with a balsamic glaze, pork ribs in a spicy plum sauce, rump roast, a chicken dish, plus lamb mince in puff pastry with tzatziki sauce. There’ll also be a simple entree and a choice of two desserts - all for just $30 per head. Local band Deal’n will be providing entertainment, and there'll be raffles as well. All profits from the event are being donated to Rotary Mental Health, and everyone is weelcome. Tickets can be obtained from the Kingaroy Police Station or at the door.

Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The monthly Kennel Jam Session will be held at the Hivesville Hotel in Main Street, Hivesville from 5:00pm until late tonight. After an absence of 15 years, the Murgon Show Society will be reintroducing a show ball tonight, but it will take the form of a Country Cabaret at St Joseph's Hall in Angel Avenue, Murgon. Ladies Afternoon Tea - Nanango
St John's Lutheran School P&F will be holding a special Ladies Afternoon Tea at Ringsfield House at 41-43 Alfred Street, Nanango from 2:00pm to 5:00pm this afternoon. The event will mark International Woman's Day and Queensland Women's Week and will be a celebration of fashion, friendship and food. Several local businesses will be showcasing their wares in a fashion show, and there will be a number of pop up shops showing beautiful items guests can purchase if they wish. There will also be raffle prizes to be won, and live entertainment by local star Amber Goldsmith. Tickets are $30 per person and include entrance, a delicious High Tea and five raffle tickets (more can be bought on the day). Yarraman Horse Ride
The Yarraman Agricultural Society will be holding the 22nd annual Yarraman Horse Ride today - a 26km trail ride around neighbouring properties. The ride will leave the Yarraman Showgrounds on the New England Highway west of town at 8:00am following a compulsory briefing at 7:30am. The cost of the ride is $20 for TRA members or $35 for non-members, which includes cold water throughout the day (lunch can be purchased in the morning before the ride). Free camping will be available at the Showgrounds on Friday and Saturday night, and meals will be available for purchase from Friday night through to Sunday morning. 60th Annual Proston Show
The 60th annual Proston Show will be held at Proston Showgrounds on the Proston-Boondooma Road just west of town from 6:00am this morning through until late tonight. The official opening at 2:00pm will be followed by the Grand Parade. The Proston Show is always a big event in the western South Burnett and today's activities will get underway with horse-riding events, stud cattle judging. The South Burnett's 2018 soccer competition will kick off in Wondai and Kingaroy today, and with only two divisions (men's and women's) in this year's competition because the South Burnett is fielding a team in the Darling Downs competition as well, it promises to be a very interesting one. Today in Wondai, Barambah will take on Nanango at the Wondai Soccer Fields at the northern end of the Wondai Sportsgrounds, with games starting at 2:00pm (women) and 3:30pm (men). And in Kingaroy, a local derby will be played between Wests and Gunners at Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street, with the women kicking off at 3:00pm and the men at 7:00pm. As well, a game from the Toowoomba Football League competition will kick off in Kingaroy at 5:00pm between South Burnett United and Dalby Tigers. Spectators are welcome at all games and a canteen will be running at both sites.

Saturday Rugby League
There's very little local rugby league action this weekend, with many seniors (and some juniors) travelling to Mundubbera or Chinchilla for competitions. However, there are some junior footy games at Cherbourg, where the Cherbourg Hornets will play Kingaroy's Red Ants at Jack O'Chin Oval. 2018 Murgon Show
The gates will open at Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street, Murgon at 7:00am this morning for the second (and main) day of the 95th Annual Murgon Show. This year's Show will feature a very big range of cattle and horse events and things will move into full gear early on with judging for stud beef cattle, followed by poultry judging. There'll also be horse events for hacks and show jumping in the main arena, plus an all breeds Dog Show; a bumper Sideshow Alley; pavilion and trade exhibits; and all the fun of a great Aussie fair. 78th Annual Goomeri Show
The 78th annual Goomeri Show will be held at the Goomeri Showgrounds on the Burnett Highway at Goomeri from early this morning until late tonight. This year's Show will feature stud and prime beef cattle competitions in the main ring, along with lots of equestrian events; pavilion entries across lots of categories; a Championship Dog Show; a brand new hay stacking competition; a tug-o-war; free face painting for children; and a Giant Fireworks display at 8:00pm. There'll also be a big Sideshow Alley with laser skirmish, giant slides and a Haunted House, along with a free outdoor screening of Cars 3 from 6:00pm. The Show Society's bar will be operating all day and into the night and there'll be plenty of food stalls in the grounds, too. Yarraman Walk Of Faith
The annual inter-denominational "Yarraman Walk Of Faith" will be held in Yarraman today, commencing with a brief service at 10:00am at the Uniting Church in Douglas Street. After this, marchers will proceed to the rest of Yarraman's churches (ie Our Lady Of Dolours Catholic church, St Phillips' Anglican Church and the Lutheran Church) before concluding with tea, coffee and hot cross buns. This Good Friday walk - which has been running in Yarraman for decades - embraces all the town's churches, and everyone is welcome to attend this community celebration of Easter. An offering plate will be in place if you'd like to make a donation towards expenses, and transport will be available for those who are unable to undertake the walks between churches.

Good Friday Country Gospel Concert - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy District Ministers Association will be holding a free Good Friday Country Gospel Concert at the Kingaroy Town Hall forecourt in Glendon Street at 6:00pm this evening. The concert will feature the Walmsley Brothers, who were the stand-out main act at a similar concert last year, along with special guest The Ringer and local country music artists as well. There'll also be a Men's Shed barbecue running if you get peckish. You should BYO chairs or a blanket, but everyone is welcome and admission is free.

Good Friday Public Holiday
Today is Good Friday, a public holiday. Most South Burnett business will either be closed today or operating on restricted hours. Easter Saturday, Sunday and Monday are also public holidays. If you're planning to attend something today, it would be wise to phone beforehand to check they're not taking an Easter break. Today also marks the start of the Easter school vacation for all State schools. Speed limits around schools will rise by 10kph today and stay that way until classes return for Term 2 on Tuesday, April 17.

Maidenwell Running Festival
The first day of the 4th annual Maidenwell Running Festival (formerly known as the Maidenwell Marathon) will be held at Maidenwell today. As the name suggests, the Marathon is for runners and walkers and there will be 9 events over three days, ranging from 2.2km to a 56km ultra-marathon. Whatever your fitness or competitive level - and no matter whether you're walking or running - the festival has a distance to suit everyone. Today the Festival will kick off at the Maidenwell Sports Grounds at 1:00pm, where runners will have the choice of a 14km, 28km or 42km full marathon course. And tonight, volunteers will be preparing a Good Friday fish and salad meal in the Maidenwell Hotel's dining room for participants and guests ($15 per head). Free camping is available at the Sports Grounds if you'd like to stay the full weekend. Kumbia Country Markets
The first Kumbia Country Markets for 2018 (run by the Kumbia Hall Committee) will be held in Bell Street and the precincts of the Kumbia Hall from 7:00am to 12:00 noon today. The markets feature homemade gifts, fashions, fresh fruit and vegies, plants and crafts and a sausage sizzle will be operating too! AGL Kumbia & District Charity Campdraft
The first day of the three-day AGL Kumbia & District Charity Campdraft will be held at the Kumbia Sports Grounds off Bell Street in Kumbia from 6:00am this morning when the canteen opens and begins serving up Big Country Breakfasts through until late this afternoon. This year's Campdraft will have a bumper field of competitors and will be offering some really great Easter campdrafting action. Today will feature the first rounds of the Open, Restricted Open and Novice events, and tonight participants and spectators can enjoy a two course roast meal and dessert at the canteen, along with live entertainment, a multi-prize draw and a Restricted Open calcutta, a Painted Beast and novelty sporting events for children. Regatta In The Park - Proston
Here's something different! The Proston Round Table, the Coverty Creek Social Club, the Mondure District Rural Fire Brigade and the South Burnett Regional Council will be holding a Regatta In The Park at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston from 10:00am this morning following the Proston QCWA's Easter Parade and markets (see below). To be part of the Regatta, participants simply need to hire a pretend boat for $2.50 per race (children aged 4-7 can hire an inflatable for free) and take part in a range of fun, non-competitive, gender-neutral events in the park with the chance to win some great prizes. There'll also be prizes for the best nautical-themed costumes. Spectators can enjoy the entertainment, too - Proston is well-known for whacky, off-the-wall events that are great fun - and this family-friendly get-together will be alcohol free as well. Nanango Easter Saturday Race Meeting
The Nanango Race Club will be holding their Easter Saturday Race Meeting at the Lee Park Raceway in Racecourse Road just south of Nanango from 10:00am to around 5:00pm today. Today's races will have a "Vintage Pink Glamour And Bonnets" theme and everyone is encouraged to dress up in their best Easter outfits and/or accessories to be in the running for some great Moffatdale Ridge Fashions Of The Field spot prizes. The race club's popular Champagne@the Bit Bar will be serving up platters all day if you fancy a bite; a licensed bar and BBQ will be operating under the extended covered area; the race club canteen will be open for sit-down dining; and there'll be plenty of bookmakers and an on-course tote available in the betting ring to take your wagers. There's also plenty of undercover seating and lots of parking on course. The Easter meeting is always a biggie but this one might be extra big because it also marks the 50th Anniversary of the return of racing at Lee Park - so expect some extra surprises! As usual, patrons are welcome to picnic on the lawns and even bring their own marquee if they like. This will be a 6 race meeting and buses will be running to the races from Kingaroy's Glendon Street Bus Depot (12:00 noon) and the rear of Nanango's Fitzroy Hotel at 12:25pm. The first race will leave the barriers around 12:45pm, but gates will open earlier so go-getters can get a head start on that all-important socialising. Easter Parade - Proston
Here's something else that's really different! The Proston QCWA will be holding a Easter Parade from 9:30am to 11:30am in Proston this morning. The parade will start at the Baptist Church and travel along Blake Street to the QCWA Rooms in Railway Park. There'll be prizes for the best-decorated floats of any description (ie cars, trucks, tractors, horse and cart, scooters, walkers and bicycles) and also the best fancy dress costume. Parade fees are just $2 to take part, or 50c for a small float or bike. Afterwards there'll be fun games including thong-tossing, egg and spoon races, a scavenger hunt and the Proston Regatta (see above), wrapping up with an Easter hat competition at 11:00am. Stall holders are welcome to take part, too, and stall fees are just $5. Everyone is welcome!

Easter Egg Hunt And Family Fun Day - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Lions Club will be holding their 2nd annual Easter Egg Hunt and Family Fun Day at Memorial Park at the corner of Alford and Burnett Streets in Kingaroy from around 8:30am this morning. There'll be two Easter Egg hunts at 9:30am and 11:00am, along with fun $5 craft activities for children plus three-legged races, egg and spoon races, a sack race and egg tossing. A coffee van will be on site and the Lions will be running a sausage sizzle, with cold drinks available as well. There's no admission charge and everyone is welcome!
