The Yarraman Rising Stars Playgroup will be meeting at the Yarraman State School Meeting Room between 8:45am and 11:30am this morning. Advanced Sport Strapping Workshop - Cherbourg
A free workshop on Advanced Sport Strapping will be held at the Cherbourg Council Chambers in Barambah Avenue, Cherbourg from 6:00pm to 9:00pm this evening. Fran Hutton, from Sports Medicine Australia, will be providing hands-on experience of advanced strapping techniques, with a focus on injuries associated with the knee and shoulder joints. Advanced principles and application of strapping as a post-injury or preventative measure are also covered. This workshop builds on the beginner sports strapping workshop (which is a prerequisite for registration). The program is designed to address the issues that many have with ageing and it's not just for seniors! It provides light exercise to keep the heart and joints moving, improving coordination and mobility. It also provides a beginner platform to start any fitness activity on. Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experiences, strengths and hopes with each other to help solve their common problems and help others to recover from alcoholism. Tick Line Placement Meeting - Proston
AgForce will be hosting another meeting for cattle producers at the Proston Community Hall in Rodney Street, Proston at 6:00pm this evening. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the State Government's proposed changes to the Tick Line, which could have adverse consequences for many South Burnett cattle producers if they're implemented the wrong way. All producers are very welcome - especially those in the area between Mondure, Cushnie and Brigooda, including Proston and south to the Chinchilla Highway - but are asked to bring along a plate of food for a shared supper afterwards. Art Exhibition Opening - Wondai
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery on the roundabout at Wondai will be opening their first monthly exhibition for 2016 with a wine and cheese tasting at 6:00pm tonight. This month the gallery will be hosting “Here And There” by well-known Mundubbera watercolourist Sue Lederhose in the Main Gallery. Sue's works cover locations around South East Queensland, the Northern Territory, Western Australia, Thailand and New Zealand as well as some WW1 interpretative pieces. The Front Gallery, meanwhile, will host “From The Radium Diaries” - works created by Faye Cook and Jan Sody while they were both undergoing treatment for breast cancer - while the Rear Gallery will host “Love, Loss and Depression” featuring works developed during the drought by Allison Seiler. And Kidz Korner will showcase works executed by students from St Joseph’s Primary School. As usual, tonight's opening will also feature great hot and cold finger foods and punch, along with wine tastings from a local winery, live entertainment and lots of fun socialising. The South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon will be holding their latest "Friday Night Live" from 6:00pm to 9:00pm this evening. Friday Night Live is open to all primary school and high school students and the get-together features music and a range of fun activities that may include any or all of the following: a jumping castle, crazy hair, ten pin bowling, dodge ball, basketball, cricket, pool tables, Xbox games, karaoke, stadium games, face painting, noodle wars, art, sport and much more. Food and soft drinks are available from the PCYC canteen and free bus travel is available from Goomeri and Wondai, picking up at 5:30pm and dropping off at 9:15pm. The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). Nanango Tourism & Development Association Meeting
After a brief break for the festive season, the Nanango Tourism & Development Association will be holding its first monthly dinner meeting in the Long Hai Room at the Nanango RSL in Henry Street, Nanango at 5:00pm (meeting starts at 5:30pm). South Burnett Pantry - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). 2016 Boondooma Dam Yellowbelly Fishing Competition
The 26th annual Boondooma Dam Yellowbelly Fishing Competition will be held at Boondooma Dam this weekend, commencing at 5:00am this morning and concluding at around lunchtime tomorrow. The event - organised by the Boondooma Dam Fish Stocking Association in conjunction with a bevy of sponsors - will have adult and junior sections and numerous cash prizes for each weigh-in period. A licensed bar, BBQ and food and drink stalls will be operating for the duration and accommodation for competitors is available at the adjoining Lake Boondooma Tourist Park. Competition entry fees are $20 for adults and $5 for children and all competitors will need to have a Stocked Impoundment Permit to take part. Last year hundreds of keen anglers wet their lines for a share of the $4,500 prize-monies and large numbers of an campers packed the dam's camping grounds. Nanango Races Valentine's Day Meeting
The Nanango Race Club will be holding their annual Valentine's Day Race Meeting at the Lee Park Raceway off the D'Aguilar Highway just south of Nanango from 10:00am to around 5:00pm today - one day ahead of Valentines Day because country racing always leads the way. Today's races will have a "Pandemonium Pink" theme and everyone is encouraged to dress up in their best pink outfits and/or accessories to be in the running for some great Moffatdale Ridge Fashions Of The Field prizes. The race club's popular Pink Champagne Bar will be serving up platters all day if you fancy a bite; a licensed bar and BBQ will be operating under the extended covered area; the race club canteen will be open for sit-down dining; children will be well catered for with face-painting and ice creams; and there'll be plenty of bookmakers and an on-course tote available in the betting ring to take your wagers. 8th Annual Reef & Beef Extravaganza - Ironpot
The 8th annual Reef & Beef Extravaganza will be held at Ironpot Hall in Ironpot from 5:30pm onwards this evening. This all-you-can-eat event will offer guests as many prawns, oysters, Moreton Bay bugs, scallops, whole cooked Red Emperor and pan-fried reef fish fillets, rib steaks and BBQ rib fillet steaks as they can pack in, along with salads, vegies and dessert. BVRT Sunset n' Moonlight Ride n' Dine - Esk
Here's something different! The Brisbane Valley Rail Trail group will be holding their second BVRT Sunset n' Moonlight Ride n' Dine cycling and dining experience this afternoon and evening between Esk and Toogoolawah, a round trip of 36km. Guests at this event should meet up at Pipeliner Park in Highland St, Esk at 4:00pm before they ride off into the sunset towards Toogoolawah along the Rail Trail. At Toogoolawah Railway Station they can enjoy champagne and canapes catered by Toogoolawah and District History Group ($10), along with a possible side visit to town's the new art gallery, subject to negotiation with Somerset Regional Council. After this, guests will cycle back to Esk in the moonlight, pausing at the Coal Creek shelter for a spot of star gazing, before arriving back in Esk around 8:00pm for a $35 dinner at the famous Nash Cafe, where non-cycling partners and friends are very welcome to join in. There is a $10 admin fee for the ride (which doesn't apply to non-cyclists) and a $35 fee for the dinner, and everyone who takes part in the ride does so at their own risk. 6th Annual Windera Music Muster
Windera State School P&C will be holding their sixth annual Windera Music Muster at the school's leafy grounds on the Murgon-Gayndah Road from 1:00pm until around 12:00 midnight tonight. The event will feature well-known country music artists Alice Benfer, Amber Goldsmith, Bob Hunt and Kerry Kennedy and Double Barrel amongst many others. Cooyar Show
After a surprise eleventh hour cancellation last year due to Cyclone Marcia, the 67th Annual Cooyar Show will be making a welcome return to the Cooyar Showgrounds at Rangemore Road in Cooyar from 8:00am this morning through until very late tonight. The Cooyar Show marks the start of the South Burnett's agricultural show season and it's always a really great family day out. This year's Grand Parade will run at 12:15pm and the Show will be officially opened at 12:30pm by Anne Woodrow from Bendigo Community Bank. As well as all the usual highlights including pavilion exhibits, stud beef cattle and Sideshow Alley, there’ll also be a Ute Muster, a fun Smash Up Derby, a Lumberjack Show, beef Young Judges & Paraders competitions, ring events and chainsawing. And in the evening there’ll be live music, a giant fireworks display and the ever-popular Cooyar Bull Ride. The first campdraft of the South Burnett's 2016 campdrafting season will conclude today with the final day of the three-day Burrandowan Campdraft, which will be held at the Burrandowan race track at Burra Burri Road in Burrandowan, about 75km west of Kingaroy. Today's action will get underway at 6:00am with competitors taking part in the first round of the Open. This will be followed by Junior and Juvenile events, before things wrap up in the early afternoon with the second round of the Open, and then the final. The Kingaroy Rugby League Football Club will be holding the second (and final) day of a special weekend for rugby league fans at their clubhouse at T.J. Some of the best junior rugby league footballers in Queensland will be on show to play pre-season trial games for the Cyril Connell and Mal Meninga competitions. A Burrumbuttock Golf & Bowls Day will be held at the Murgon Golf Club on the Bunya Highway south of town (if you're a golfer) and the Murgon Bowls Club in Macalister Street (if you're a bowler) all day today to help raise funds for another Burrumbuttock Hay Run to take hay to drought-stricken farmers in western Queensland next month. Both events will be offering lunches at noon, raffles and an auction in the afternoon, then dinner at 6:00pm followed by live entertainment at the golf club.
