Cooyar Show Ball
The Cooyar Show Society's annual Cooyar Show Ball - the traditional curtain-raiser for the Cooyar Show being staged on February 19th this year - will be held at Cooyar Hall on the New England Highway at Cooyar from 8:00pm until around 1:00am tonight. A feature of this fully licensed event will be the judging of Miss Cooyar Showgirl 2011 (as well as awards for Matron of the Ball, Belle of the Ball, Miss Teen Showgirl and Junior Princess). The South Burnett Regional Council in conjunction with Creative Regions will be holding the first of a series of four public meetings at the Kingaroy Town Hall Reception Rooms in Glendon Street, Kingaroy at 5:30pm this evening. The purpose of the meetings is to gather public feedback on a proposed South Burnett Region Art, Culture and Heritage Policy which will guide the Council's efforts in these areas over the coming years, as well as test the waters for ideas about a public sculpture the SBRC hope to place in the renovated Kingaroy Town Hall forecourt. Proston Womens Pamper Day
Yes! It's back again for 2011! A special, completely free Pamper Day for rural women will be held at Proston Town Hall in Rodney Street, Proston from 9:00am to around 2:00pm today. The event has been jointly organised by Centacare South Burnett and BIEDO as a way to bring a little stress relief into lives that may have been given a bit of a crisping by the drought (or this year, a bit of a drenching by the floods). All ladies who attend will be given morning tea and lunch and massages, facials and footbaths. They'll also be able to listen to some great guest speakers and there'll be lots of free information available about how to keep well, stay active and combat depression, along with info about where to get flood assistance too. Over the last three years Pamper Days have proven to be an overwhelming success with more than 1600 women attending since 2007. All Proston and district women are most welcome to come along! Tansey Womens Pamper Day
Yes! It's back again for 2011! A special, completely free Pamper Day for rural women will be held at the Tansey Bowls Club off the Burnett Highway at Tansey from 9:00am to around 2:00pm today, followed by a Flood Recovery Information Session from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. The event has been jointly organised by Centacare South Burnett and BIEDO as a way to bring a little stress relief into lives that may have been given a bit of a crisping by the drought (or this year, a bit of a drenching by the floods). All ladies who attend will be given morning tea and lunch and massages, facials and footbaths. They'll also be able to listen to some great guest speakers and there'll be lots of free information available about how to keep well, stay active and combat depression, along with info about where to get flood assistance too. Over the last three years Pamper Days have proven to be an overwhelming success with more than 1600 women attending since 2007. All Tansey and district women are most welcome to come along! Flood Recovery Pincnic - Nanango
Here's something different! A free community Flood Recovery Picnic will be held at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street, Nanango from 1:30pm to 5:30pm this afternoon. The picnic has been organised by the South Burnett Regional Council in conjunction with Boots 'N' Bulldust and the Kingaroy Rotary Club and is being supported by local businesses, community groups and individuals with donations of time, goods and entertainment. Today's picniuc will have free drinks and ice-blocks for children; live entertainment from a variety of artists including Seascape, Amber Goldsmith, Sue Evans, Sing Australia, Too Ezy, Tori Summers, Leila May, James McSweeney and Bobby Ricks. There'll also be an art workshop for children, face painting, 10-pin bowling and other party games. And a special highlight of today's gathering will be the Wall Of Water where locals are invited to bring along their flood photos for display (these will later be used to help compile a pictorial history of the event). 62nd Annual Cooyar Show
The 62nd Annual Cooyar Show will be held at the Cooyar Showgrounds on Rangemore Road in Cooyar from 8:00am this morning through until very late tonight. The Cooyar Show marks the start of the South Burnett's show season and was roundly praised in 2010 for offering a really great family day out. Special attractions at this year's event include a demolition derby, a PBR Rodeo and freestyle motocross. There'll also be a full day of entertainment for the whole family including 5-for-$5 amusement rides, face painting for the kids, Cheerio the Clown, a big chainsaw competition, show bags and live music, as well as the usual hotly-contested horse, stud beef and pavilion programs. Meanwhile, a similar community Flood Recovery Picnic will be held at Errol Munt Park in Yarraman from 10:00am to 2:00pm today as well. This event has been organised by the Yarraman Community Council and admission to it will be by gold coin donation. If you attend you should bring along a picnic rug, lunch and drinks (alcohol is allowed) and a dessert to share. Attendees are also encouraged to bring along games and entertainment to share with others in the community (eg: frisbees, a cricket set etc). Yarraman was hit particularly hard by the floods so today will give everyone in the community a chance to reflect on the event and then allow them to focus on getting things back to normal. Public Meetings - Kilkivan and Goomeri
Gympie Regional Council will be holding two public meetings in Kilkivan and Goomeri today to gather public feedback on a GRC Councillor's proposal to swap from "all of Shire" elections to divisions at the next local government elections in August 2012. The proposal to make the change - if it were to be accepted - would mean that Gympie residents would have a Mayor and 8 councillors setting their rates and making other serious decisions on their behalf but would only be able to vote for just two of them (ie the Mayor and a local divisional councillor). Today's meetings will be held at the Goomeri Hall of Memory at 2:00pm and the Kilkivan Public Hall Supper Room at 4:00pm. Concerned residents who can't make the meetings can also obtain an information sheet and make their views known on Gympie Regional Council's website.

The 29th annual Air Solar South Burnett Soccer Sevens will be held at the Kingaroy Senior Soccer Grounds at the end of Oliver Bond Street in Kingaroy all this weekend. 53rd Annual Bell Show Show & Rodeo
The first day of the weekend-long 53rd Annual Bell Show and Rodeo will be held at Bell Showgrounds on the Bunya Highway between Kumbia and Dalby from 9:00am this morning when the first horse and ring events get underway right through until late tonight. Today's show will be running a full programme of agricultural show events and an all-day rodeo will be running tomorrow. Things to look out for this year include a a big spread of cattle and pavilion judging events; cattle dog trials; a great sideshow alley; the Queensland Tree Felling Titles where top axemen and women will battle it in a dozen different contests for $6,000 in prizes; a mighty Ute Show that offers some equally great prizes over a wide range of categories; a fashion parade; a karate display in the saddle enclosure at 4:30pm; the annual Bell Art Exhibition (mounted in the nearby Bell Memorial Hall); and toe-tapping live entertainment in the evening that will continue on until late tonight. South Burnett Speedway - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Speedway will be roaring into action at the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy this afternoon and evening with their first Speedway Spectacular for 2011. Tonight's meeting will feature contests between V8 Dirt Modifieds, V8 Late Models, Harm Testimonial Street Sedans, Dwarf Cars and ASCF Junior Sedans - all in the no-holds-barred, smash-'em-up style of hi-octane thrills and spills racing that makes the South Burnett's Speedway such a crowd-pleaser. Tonight's V8 Dirt Modified Series is the first time this type of event has ever been seen in the South Burnett, and there'll also be a Queensland Late Model Title with all cars imported from the USA. Gates will open at around 12:00 noon and the first racers will slam their pedals to the metal at 4:00pm. As usual, a full bar and canteen facilities will be operating throughout and admission is $25 for adults, $20 for pensioners, $15 for students or $60 for a family pass (2 adults and 2 students).
