Yarraman New Years Day Festival
Yarraman will be ringing in the New Year with a four-hour News Years Day Festival in the Errol Munt Recreation Grounds off the New England Highway just west of the CBD from 5:00pm until 9:00pm this afternoon and evening. The Festival will feature lots of great family fun including a special appearance by Blazer The Bear; live musical entertainment; market stalls; a licensed bar; food and beverages; and a range of free amusement rides for children including jumping castles; a slide; Zorb balls in a pond; and dodgem cars. There'll also be a big fireworks display after dark. The Festival is run by the Yarraman Progress Association and co-sponsored by Toowoomba Regional Council. Everyone is welcome and admission is free.

South Burnett Speedway - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Speedway Club will be holding the second day of their third meeting for the 2016-17 racing season at their track inside the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy this afternoon and evening. The focus of this two-day meeting will be the SRE SSA National Street Stock Title, and there'll be heats and finals for this today, as well as V8 Super Sedans competing in the Summer Slam Tour for a change of pace. The main gate will open at 3:00pm and the first pedals will hit the metal at 5:00pm. Admission is $25 for adults and $15 for concessions and students. Under 12s can get in for free if accompanied by an adult, and a canteen will be operating on site, too. You can find out more on the Speedway's website.

New Year's Day Public Holiday
Today is the New Year's Day public holiday, because New Year's Day fell on a Sunday this year. Most South Burnett businesses will either be closed or operating on restricted hours, but things will return to normal tomorrow.

Back To Work
The festive season will come to an end for many people today, with most retail businesses and government offices resuming normal services after the Christmas-New Year holidays. South Burnett Online will return to normal broadcasting on Monday, January 16.

Blackbutt Car Enthusiasts Club

The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). Dance - Inverlaw Hall
A dance will be held at Inverlaw Hall on the Burrandowan Road (roughly 20km from Kingaroy) from 8:00pm until late this evening. The Ringsfield Film Society will be screening a Sunday afternoon movie at their cinema - the old chapel in the grounds of Ringsfield House at 41-45 Alfred Street, Nanango - at 2:30pm today. This month's film is "Babe: Pig In The City", a heart-warming 1998 Australian-American comedy and the sequel to the 1995 film "Babe". The story focusses on the journey of Babe and the farmer's wife Esme to the fictional city of Metropolis to compete in a sheepdog herding contest, win first prize and save the farm from ruin, and all the hilarious misadventures they have on their trip. Australia Day
Today is Australia Day, a national public holiday. Australia Day marks the date in 1788 when Captain Arthur Philip raised the British flag at Port Jackson near the present-day site of Sydney and became Governor of the new British colony of New South Wales. Australia Day used to be called Foundation Day until the name was changed in 1946, but since then it's grown to become one of our key national celebrations. It's also traditionally the day when our nation hands out Australia Day Awards to outstanding citizens who've made significant contributions to the country and/or their communities. Barambah Shed Men Meeting - Mt McEuen
The Barambah Shed Men will be holding their 35th meeting at Stan Baker's property at 454 Fairdale Road, Mt McEuen from 4:30pm to around 8:00pm this afternoon and evening.
