Kilkivan Great Horse Ride
The fourth (and major) day of the expanded, five day 2018 Kilkivan Great Horse Ride will kick off at 7:00am this morning when participants line up at the Kilkivan Showgrounds for the 31km Kurandah Trail ride, the second of the Festival's four rides. This will be followed at 9:00am by horses pulling carriages when participants assemble at Weier Oval for the Oakview Carriage Trail. For non-riders, though, the day will really get underway at 9:30am there'll be a black powder shooting demonstration at the Kilkivan Range, and back in Bligh Street at the Kilkivan Public Hall, a $10 per head Line Dancing Social will run from 10:00am to 3:30pm along with a program of free street entertainment in Bligh Street from 11:00am to 4:00pm. At noon, one final batch of riders will assemble at the Showgrounds for the 15km Landcare Olympic Park Trail (the Festival's fourth and final ride) before riders from all the day's three trails meet up at the end of Bligh Street for the Grand Parade at 4:00pm. The day will be capped off with a free Tom Grady Campfire Concert at the Showgrounds featuring the Whisky Mountain Boys, a mechanical bull, jumping castle, auction and talent quest final that will run from 6:00pm until midnight. Kingaroy Cricket Club 30th Birthday
The Kingaroy Cricket and Sports Club in Youngman Street, Kingaroy will be celebrating the 30th birthday of the clubhouse's construction today with a T20 cricket match between the Kingaroy Cricket & Sports Club 11 and Gympie (which starts at 11:30pm); an AFL pre-season trial match between the South Burnett Saints and Chinchilla Suns men's teams (which starts at 3:00pm); and a dinner in the evening with Carl Rackemann as a special guest. Doors will open at 9:00am today and the cricket and AFL are free. But if you want to go to the dinner, tickets are $25 for adults or $15 per head for children 12 and under. Everyone is welcome!
Dance - Inverlaw Hall
A dance will be held at Inverlaw Hall on the Burrandowan Road (roughly 20km from Kingaroy) from 8:00pm until late this evening. Music will be supplied by Mark's Music and there'll be the usual great supper and novelties, along with a Lucky Door draw. Saturday Rugby League - Cherbourg
The first round of the South Burnett's 2018 rugby league competition will get underway at Jack O'Chin Oval in Cherbourg today, starting with an U18s match at 2:00pm between the South Burnett Eagles and Valleys. This will be followed by the first A-grade match of the day at 3:30pm when Kingaroy's Red Ants play the Wondai Wolves; and then at 5:00pm, Cherbourg's Hornets will play the Murgon Mustangs. There's no junior footy this week because of school holidays.
Kennel Jam Session - Hivesville
The monthly Kennel Jam Session will be held at the Hivesville Hotel in Main Street, Hivesville from 5:00pm until late tonight. All musicians young and old are welcomed at these sessions, and so are all music genres. All the necessary backline gear is provided, too - just bring along your guitar, your voice and your friends and enjoy a great night of music. Accommodation is available at special rates for music lovers on the night, there's free camping nearby, and dinner will be served from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
Cooranga North Campdraft
Cooranga North - a small village located on the Kingaroy-Jandowae Road south of Kumbia (turn off from the Bunya Highway) - will be holding its annual Campdraft from early this morning until late this afternoon at Cooranga North's campdrafting grounds. This isn't a large campdraft - it will feature a Novice Draft during the day for $1500-plus in total prizes from 1st to 8th, followed by a Cut Out under lights in the evening - but it always draws a good crowd and has a fun atmosphere. Arthur Nettelfield - Kingaroy
Popular country rock entertainer Arthur Nettelfield will be performing at the Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street, Kingaroy from 7:00pm until late tonight. Admission is free. More details from the RSL on (07) 4162-1755
Two Bob Short - Kingaroy
Popular South Burnett rockers Two Bob Short will be performing at the Commercial Hotel at the corner of Glendon and Haly Streets in Kingaroy 8:30pm until around 12:30pm tonight. More details? Phone the hotel on (07) 4162-1380.
Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and attract up to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Deal'n - Wondai
The Wondai Hotel in Haly Street, Wondai will be hosting popular local group Deal'n from 4:00pm until late tonight. The hotel will also be serving up pork, lamb, beef or chicken spit roast dinners from 6:00pm to 8:00pm if you get hungry, along with roast rolls and children's meals. Everyone is welcome! Saturday Soccer - Kingaroy
POSTPONED: With the local competition taking a 4-week break until April 21, all eyes will be on Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street in Kingaroy at 5:00pm today when South Burnett United play Chinchilla in the 5th round of the Darling Downs football competition. So far this season, United have won three games and drawn one, which puts them narrowly on top of the table, while Chinchilla occupy 5th spot. The last time United played a home game the crowds were huge and if you enjoy top-level football, they'll probably be huge for this match too. A bar and canteen will be operating on site, there's no entrance fee and everyone is welcome! Note: This match has been postponed to April 14.
Garage Sale - Kingaroy
A garage sale will be held at 33 Bridgeman Parade, Kingaroy from 7:30am to noon this morning. Items up for grabs include power tools, kitchen appliances, crockery, linen, small furniture, a portable massage table, a dining suite, DVDs and CDs, bric-a-brac and odds and ends of all sorts. Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. Swing Jazz Night - Nanango
SOLD OUT! The Palace Hotel in Drayton Street, Nanango will be holding a Swing Jazz Night featuring swing jazz favourites from the 1920s through to the 1940s from 6:00pm to 10:00pm this evening. Guests are encouraged to dress in 1930s formal wear and entry may be refused to those who don't. There are strictly limited tables available and tickets are just $20 per head.
