 Saturday, 07 March 2020 
Proston Show
The main day of the 62nd annual Proston Show will be held at Proston Showgrounds on the Proston-Boondooma Road just west of town today, with horse events at 8:00am; stud cattle judging and a Championship Dog Show at 8:30am; prime cattle, poultry and ute show judging at 9:00am; and then woodchops, chainsaw racing and post-ripping at 9:30am. At 1:00pm, competitors will line up for the Proston Stockman’s Classic, before the official opening at 2:00pm and the Grand Parade at 2:30pm. In the afternoon, there'll be a whip-cracking competition at 3:30pm, followed by live music from 5:00pm and a giant fireworks display at 7:00pm. Other attractions to look out for are Viv’s Farm Animals and Mandy’s face painting, along with dodgem cars and other amusement rides. The pavilion displays, Show canteen and bar will be running all day, too. Show admission prices remain at $10 for adults, $5 for high school students and $3 for primary school students (under fives are free), and a family pass for two adults and two or more children is also available for $25.
Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and attract up to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Frank Fisher Rugby League Cup - Cherbourg
The first day of the weekend-long Frank Fisher Cup rugby league carnival will be held at Jack O'Chin Oval in Broadway Street, Cherbourg today. The Queensland Rugby League has joined with the South Burnett Rugby League to host this inaugural QRL Central Region event in honour of one of the South Burnett's greatest players, and Indigenous teams from across the Central region will be taking part. Today's action will get underway at 1:30pm when an U16s Murgon-Cherbourg side play Kingaroy. This will be followed by the official opening at 2:45pm, and then a match between South West Emus and Sunshine Coast Bunyas at 3:30pm, followed by Wide Bay Stingrays playing against CQ Barramundis at 5:00pm. After this, the day will be rounded off at 7:00pm with a BBQ dinner and live music from Muddy Flats playing late into the night. Everyone is welcome and a canteen will be running on site. Cooyar Spit Roast
The Cooyar Hotel on the New England Highway at Cooyar will be holding its first Spit Roast Night for 2020 in their Outback Bar behind the pub from 6:30pm (when serving starts) until late tonight. The cost is $25 per head for a great two-course buffet spit roast feed and live music until late, but seating is limited so a booking is a must: (07) 4692-6185. There's also free camping nearby if you'd like to stay over.
Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
Saturday Cricket
UPDATED: The South Burnett's B-grade cricket competition has come to the pointy end of the season and today players will be battling it out for the Cup (top four teams) and the Plate (bottom four teams) trophies. In the Cup competition, the Kumbia Rattlers will play Kallindale Warriors at the Kumbia Sports Grounds in Gordon Street, Kumbia; and the Southern District Devils will play Nanango's Scorpions at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy. Meanwhile, in the Plate competition, Blackbutt's Timbertowners will play Wondai at the Wondai Sportsgrounds; and Cherbourg will play Kingaroy Services at Murgon State High School. Canteens will be operating at some venues, all games will start at 12:30pm and spectators are very welcome.
Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event. More details? Send an email.
Nanango Parkrun
The Nanango parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run along the Ros Gregor Trail at Tipperary Flat next to the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event.
Dance - Inverlaw Hall
A dance will be held at Inverlaw Hall on the Burrandowan Road (roughly 20km from Kingaroy) from 8:00pm until late this evening. Music will be supplied by Diamonds and there'll be the usual great supper and novelties, along with a Lucky Door draw. Merlin - Wondai
Merlin - the ultimate one man band - will be performing from 7:30pm to 10:30pm tonight at the Cecil Hotel in Mackenzie Street, Wondai. Admission is free. More details from the hotel on (07) 4168-5460.
Beef & Burger Night - Kingaroy
Huskys Burgers outside SupaIGA in Avoca Street, Kingaroy will be holding a Beer and Burger Night until 8:30pm this evening. Guests planning a night on the town can buy their beer at takeaway prices from the bottle shop located diagonally opposite, then bring them over to Husky's for a sit-down burger dinner. Ryza - Kingaroy
Popular South Burnett party band Ryza will be performing at the Commercial Hotel at the corner of Glendon and Haly Streets in Kingaroy from 8:30pm until 12:30pm tonight. Admission is free. More details from the hotel on (07) 4162-1380.
Horse Show - Nanango
The South Burnett Western Performance Club will be holding their annual Show at their grounds in Racecourse Road, Nanango today. This event will start at 8:00am and it's a Beginner/Improver/Open Show for all halter, led and ridden classes including walk trot/jog. All riders and horse breeds are welcome.
Karaoke - Tingoora

Full Sircle - Kingaroy

The South Burnett branch of Narcotics Anonymous will be holding its weekly meeting at Wondai from 6:00pm to around 7:00pm this evening.
