Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and attract up to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Dance - Inverlaw Hall
A dance will be held at Inverlaw Hall on the Burrandowan Road (roughly 20km from Kingaroy) from 8:00pm until late this evening. Music will be supplied by Diamonds and there'll be the usual great supper and novelties, along with a Lucky Door draw. BP Dam Inland Fishing Classic
The first day of the weekend-long Bjelke-Petersen Dam Inland Fishing Classic fishing competition will be held at Yallakool today. This popular annual fishing competition has been revived by the Dam's fish stocking association after an absence of several years, and seems certain to draw a large field of competitors vying for great prizes. Registrations for the competition took place on Friday ($20 for adults or $5 for juniors) and there'll be several weigh-ins today, with final weigh-ins and prize-giving tomorrow morning. Spectators are very welcome.
Trivia Night - Blackbutt
A Trivia Night will be held at the Blackbutt Memorial Hall in Bowman Road, Blackbutt from 5:30pm until late tonight (play starts at 6:00pm sharp) as a fundraiser for the Blackbutt Art Gallery. Play will take place in tables of 6 and there'll be food and drink available, along with raffles. Admission is just $10 per head, and you can book a table by phoning the gallery on (07) 4170-0221 or 0437-474-954.
Take It To The Track - Nanango
South Burnett Kart Hire, Nanango's Heritage Community Branch and Nanango Police will be jointly hosting the third annual Take It To The Track Day at the go-kart track on the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango's CBD from 9:00am to 3:00pm today. This popular event promotes road safety and provides a rare opportunity to race against local police ... legally! In addition to thrill-a-minute go-kart racing there'll also be a jumping castle, free donuts, a sausage sizzle, a traffic crash display, a distraction driver simulator, displays of the latest police vehicles and equipment, a stopping distance display and more! 2 Bob Short - Kingaroy
Popular local group 2 Bob Short (plus a few friends) will be performing at Kingaroy's Commercial Hotel at the corner of Glendon and Haly Streets from 8:30pm until late tonight. Admission is free. More details from the hotel on (07) 4162-1380.
South Burnett Cricket
The South Burnett cricket season gets underway today with eight local teams in action: Kallindale Warriors v Murgon District at Lyle Vidler Oval, Kingaroy; Kumbia Rattlers v Wondai at Kumbia; Nanango Scorpions v Cherbourg at Nanango; and Blackbutt Timbertowners v Kingaroy Services at Blackbutt All games will start at 12:30pm. The two South Burnett A Grade teams, Kingaroy and Murgon, will play their Round 1 games in the Gympie competition on October 20.
Maidenwell Folk Gathering
The main day of the twice-a-year Maidenwell Folk Gathering will be held in and around the historic Maidenwell Hotel in Maidenwell today, kicking off at around 9:30am and running late into the night. This is an all-acoustic event and during the day a variety of performers will be entertaining outdoors. In the evening, the action will move onto the hotel's wide verandahs and indoors. Admission to the Folk Gathering is completely free and musicians are welcome as well as people who just like to listen to music. There's also free overnight camping available in the hotel's grounds. Natalie Fenton - Kingaroy
Popular South Burnett entertainer Natalie Fenton will be performing at the Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street, Kingaroy from 7:30pm until this evening. More details from the RSL on (07) 4162-1755
Cooyar Campdraft
The first day of the two-day Cooyar Campdraft will be running at the Cooyar campdrafting grounds off the New England Highway just west of the town from 6:00am this morning through until late tonight. This twice-yearly campdraft always draws large numbers of competitors and this year it will be featuring a Maiden Draft, Junior Draft, Juvenile Draft, Futurity Draft, Open Draft and a Novice Draft along with a Local Committee Challenge Draft (finals of the Open and Novice Drafts will be determined tomorrow). Admission to the campdraft is 100% free for spectators, and tonight the campdraft will also be hosting a free concert (from 7:00pm onwards) with music provided by a local entertainer. Yarraman Show & Shine
The Yarraman Show & Shine will be held at the Recreation Grounds in Margaret Street, Yarraman from 8:30am this morning (gates open at 6:30am) until presentations at 1:00pm this afternoon as part of this year's Colours Of Yarraman festival. This year's Show & Shine will have separate categories for Holden, Ford, American, Japanese, British, Hotrod, Ute, Modified and Other cars; American, Japanese, British, Trike and Other motorcycles; along with a special category for a pimped push-bike and a People's Choice Award. There'll also be live music, food stands, drinks stands and market stalls in the grounds, along with a Jumping Castle to keep children amused. Jazz On The Platform - Yarraman
The Colours Of Yarraman Festival will be kicking on after the Yarraman Show & Shine (see entry above) with Jazz On The Platform at Station Park in Millar Street from 2:00pm to 5:30pm this afternoon. Guests at this gold coin donation event can get to enjoy swing jazz and popular favourites from the Greg Bird Jazz Band and bring along a plate of food to share at the long table being set up in the grounds. Guests should BYO chair or blanket, and a licensed cash bar will be operating too. There'll also be a fundraising raffle and prizes for the best-dressed male and female. Everyone is welcome!
Kennel Jam Session - Hivesville
The monthly Kennel Jam Session will be held at the Hivesville Hotel in Main Street, Hivesville from 5:00pm until late tonight. All musicians young and old are welcomed at these sessions, and so are all music genres. All the necessary backline gear is provided, too - just bring along your guitar, your voice and your friends and enjoy a great night of music. Accommodation is available at special rates for music lovers on the night, there's free camping nearby, and dinner will be served from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
Come & Try Bowls Afternoon - Proston
The Proston Bowls Club in Murphy Way will be holding a "Come & Try Bowls" afternoon from 2:00pm today. Everyone is welcome - whether you have bowls experience or not - and all you need to do is wear soft-soled shoes or go barefoot. Family Fair - Nanango
Nanango RSL will be holding a Family Fair in the RSL's rear car park from 10:00am to 12:00 noon this morning as a school holiday activity. For $5, children can enjoy jumping castles and a free morning tea, and other fun activities as well. Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. Men's Saturday Bowls - Yarraman

South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip
Noosaville's Outbike Australia will be running a South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip for cyclists today. The day trip will pick up participants at Noosa, Noosaville and Gympie and will offer three options: an easy ride from Kingaroy to Murgon (45km sealed); a hard ride from Murgon to Kilkivan (45km unsealed); and an extreme 90km ride from Kingaroy to Kilkivan. Bus fares are $120 return from Noosa, and bikes can be hired for $20 if you don't have your own. South Burnett locals are also welcome to take part, and there's $40 rider and bike transfers from Kilkivan to Kingaroy available if you need help getting back home. More details?
