BP Dam Inland Fishing Classic - Yallakool
The first day of the weekend-long Bjelke-Petersen Dam Inland Classic fishing competition will be held at the Yallakool Tourist Park on the dam's foreshores today. This popular annual fishing competition is run by the Dam's fish stocking association and always offers a great weekend of family fun with loads of giveaways including rods, reels, tackle, iceboxes, vouchers, camping gear and more (in excess of $28,000 worth or prizes will be given away this year). In addition, one lucky person will also win a brand new boat, motor and trailer in the major prize lucky draw. Registrations to take part in the competition are just $20 for adults or $5 for juniors and there'll be several weigh-ins today, with final weigh-ins and prize-giving tomorrow morning. Spectators are very welcome!
Maidenwell Post Rip Challenge
The first day of the two-day Maidenwell Post Rip Challenge will be held at the Maidenwell Sportsgrounds next to the Maidenwell Hotel from 9:00am until around 3:30pm this afternoon. The event is a fundraiser for both the Maidenwell Community Group and RACQ LifeFlight and today's action will feature the 090 Australian Title heats, an Open Rip Final, 090 Speed Races (both heats and finals); and Disc Stacking. There'll also be demonstrations of whip cracking, BBQ smoking and chainsaw sculpting, and food and a coffee van will be available in the grounds. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the action and admission for spectators is free. Today's activities will be followed by a LifeFlight Fundraising Dinner in Maidenwell Hall, but bookings are necessary to attend this. More details? Phone Ros on 0427-648-093.
Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and attract up to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Kingaroy Bowls Club Bingo
The Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
Cherbourg Fight Night
The Cherbourg Boxing Group will be holding a Fight Night at the Cherbourg Sports Club at 6 Collins Road, Cherbourg from 2:00pm to 10:00pm this afternoon and evening (weigh-ins take place between 10:00am and 11:00am). Entry is by gold coin donation and food and drinks will be available onsite, along with raffles. Everyone is welcome! Note: This event was rescheduled from its original date of September 7 to avoid conflicting with the South Burnett rugby league Grand Finals.
Natalie Fenton - Blackbutt
Popular South Burnett entertainer Natalie Fenton will be performing at the Bunya Nute Cafe in Coulson Street, Blackbutt from 6:00pm to around 10:00pm tonight. Admission is free. More details from the Cafe on (07) 4163-0375.
Pool Party - Kingaroy
Kingaroy's Swimming Pool in Alford Street will be officially kicking off its 2019-2020 season today with an all-day Pool Party running from 9:00am until late. There'll be free entry all day, an inflatable obstacle course, games and a free movie night in the evening. Food and drinks will be available for purchase and parents are invited to bring along their children, sunscreen, swimmers and towels for fun family day out that won't break the bank.
Dance - Inverlaw Hall
A dance will be held at Inverlaw Hall on the Burrandowan Road (roughly 20km from Kingaroy) from 8:00pm until late this evening. Music will be supplied by Diamonds and there'll be the usual great supper and novelties, along with a Lucky Door draw. Cooyar Campdraft
The first day of the two-day Cooyar Campdraft will be held at Cooyar's Showgrounds in Rangemore Road from early this morning through until around sundown. Today's events will feature two rounds of an Open Draft (the finals of this are held tomorrow), a Maiden Draft, a Junior Draft, a Juvenile Draft and a Futurity Draft, and they'll be followed tonight by live entertainment. Food and drinks will be available from the Showgrounds' canteen all day and tonight, and overnight camping is available in the grounds as well. Admission to the draft is 100% free for spectators. Everyone is welcome!
Sound Minds - Proston
Musician Brendon Walmsley will be performing a free community concert at Proston Town Hall in Rodney Street, Proston from 6:00pm until late tonight. A licensed bar will also be operating and everyone is welcome. PS: A twso-course dinner will also be available at 5:45pm ($15 for adults, $6 for children) but to plan the catering, bookings are essential: 0412-763-736 or (07) 4168-9593.
Fork, Field and Vine Long Table Dinner - Moffatdale
Clovely Estate Wines at Steinhardt's Road in Moffatdale will be holding a Fork, Field and Vine Long Table Dinner from 5:30pm to around 11:30pm tonight. On arrival, guests will be welcomed with a glass of Clovely Estate sparkling and a local grazing table before sitting down to a long table tasting plate dinner prepared by chef Roberta Schablon. Dinner dishes will be matched with Clovely Estate wines, and a bus will be available to transport guests to and from the event (phone (07) 4168-1533 to make a transport booking). Miniature Horse Association State Show - Kingaroy
The Miniature Horse Association will be holding their State Show at the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street today and tomorrow. Up to 100 miniature horses of all types will be competing for ribbons and there'll be jumping along with dressage and liberty work. Activities will get underway at 8:00am and food will be available in the grounds. Everyone is welcome and admission is free.
October Beer Fest - Wondai
The Wondai Hotel in Haly Street, Wondai will be holding an October Beer Fest from 6:30pm until late tonight featuring cold beer, live entertainment and a spit roast dinner. Everyone is welcome! More details from the hotel on (07) 4168-5274.
Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event. More details? Send an email.
Proston Pony Club Youth Camp
The Proston Pony Club will be holding a Youth Camp at the Proston Showgrounds on the Proston-Boondooma Road west of town today and tomorrow. The Youth Camp is limited to 50 riders aged 18 or younger. Fees - which include food, coaching, unofficial sports nomination, yarding and camping - are $90 per rider and meals are available to non-riders for $45. DJ iLLp Rhythm and Beats Party - Kingaroy
DJ iLLp and his guests will be spinning the platters at the Commercial Hotel at the corner of Glendon and Haly Streets, Kingaroy, from 9:00pm until around 1:00am tonight. Admission is free. More details from the hotel on (07) 4162-1380.
Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Seafood & Sax - Murgon
The Australian Hotel in Lamb Street, Murgon will be holding a Seafood & Sax Night with the South Burnett's very own Sultan of Sax Tom McKenzie from 5:30pm until late tonight. Smokin' Blues & Roots Festival - Kilkivan
The Kilkivan Bush Caravan Park at 577 Rossmore Road in Kilkivan will be holding the second day of its Smokin' Blues & Roots Festival today. Between October 4-6 the festival will feature Big Kitty, The Smokin' Crawdads, Fiddle Me Please, Tennessee Lights, Hillbilly Goats and The Hipsters, along with American Smoke & Grill catering and fantastic activities and workshops for all ages, plus market stalls and overnight camping facilities. Attendance numbers are strictly limited, though, and you can obtain details of packages and prices by email.
Open Mic & Alice Benfer At The Palace
The Palace Hotel in Drayton Street, Nanango will be holding an Open Mic Afternoon from 2:00pm to around 6:00pm today, courtesy of Seascape Studios who'll be providing the PA, frontline and drums (just BYO instruments). Everyone is welcome! Afterwards, popular South Burnett soloist Alice Benfer will be performing in the Palace's new restaurant from 5:30pm until late. More details? Yallakool Markets
The Yallkool Markets will be running at the Yallkool caravan park on Bjelke-Petersen Dam from 8:00am to 2:00pm today as an adjunct to the BP Dam Inland Fishing Classic (see entry elsewhere this page). The markets feature craft goods and artisan produce, and browsers are very welcome.
Widgee Markets
The monthly Widgee Markets will be held outside the Widgee Memorial Hall on the Gympie-Woolooga Road from 7:00am until noon this morning. The markets are held on the first Saturday of each month and new stallholders are always welcome (stall fees are just $5). Proceeds go to aid Widgee koala rescue. More details? Phone (07) 5484-0089.
DJ Melt - Kingaroy
