Farmers Big Day Out - Wondai
The South Burnett Regional Council, in conjunction with AgForce, BIEDO and RHealth, will be hosting a free Big Day Out for the local farming community at Wondai Showgrounds in Baynes Street, Wondai from noon to 7:00pm today. There'll be a free lunch for farmers plus a concert by Brendon Walmsley and heaps of attractions including trade displays, chainsaw ripping and sculpting, whip cracking and a mechanical bull. There'll also be children's activities to keep youngsters amused. Volunteers from Rural Aid who've been helping out farmers in the Wondai area over the past week and giving the town an economic boost will also be taking part, and everyone is welcome. More details? 26th Annual Kumbia Brain Drain
The 26th Annual Kumbia Brain Drain will be held at Kumbia Hall on the Bunya Highway in Kumbia from 6:00pm until late this evening. The event - the major annual fundraiser for Kumbia State School P&C - is a trivia-style tournament where teams of 6 compete for great cash prizes. Guests at this year's Brain Drain are encouraged to dress to the theme "Game Of Crowns" to be in the running for great prizes. There'll also be cash prizes for round winners and overall winners, along with the usual fun-filled audience participation games and raffles. Snacks, tea and coffee will be provided, and a cash bar will be operating (so no BYO). Admission is $120 per table of six, players must be aged 15 years and over, and a maximum of 35 teams can take part. There'll also be a bus running from Kingaroy to Kumbia, but you'll need to book to reserve a place. More details? Phone James on 0409-598-179. Grape Escape - Moffatdale and Kingaroy
The first day of the inaugural Grape Escape Weekend will be held from 10:00am to 4:00pm today, with a free shuttle bus travelling between five Moffatdale wineries to ferry guests between the different venues. Each of the five wineries will be offering free entertainment, free wine tastings, and $10 tasting plates featuring different local cuisines (there'll also be non-alcoholic drinks available at most venues). Guests can simply drive to any one of the participating wineries, then jump on the all-day shuttle bus and choose which wineries they'd like to visit as it moves from one venue to the next. In Kingaroy, Kingsley Grove Estate will also be taking part but because of its distance from Moffatdale, the shuttle bus will not be running to it. Wondai Country Markets
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery's popular monthly Wondai Country Markets will be operating at Coronation Park in Wondai's CBD from 7:00am to 12:00 noon today. Today's markets will feature stallholders selling fresh fruit and vegetables, arts and crafts, useful knick-knacks and clothing. There'll also be live entertainment; lots and lots of other stalls selling great gifts and goodies; and special hand-made treasures from local artisans available from the Gallery's new "Studio" building just a short stroll across the park. The BBQs will also be firing up from 6:45am to dish out hearty breakfasts for early bargain hunters. New stallholders are always very welcome (stall fees range from $10 with power and water available, if needed) and you can obtain more details by phoning Joan Spicer on 0456-999-928.
Nanango Mini Market
The Nanango Mini Market, which runs on the 4th Saturday of each month (except January) outside the Churchyard Opp Shop at the corner of Drayton and Burnett Streets in Nanango, will be running from 7:00am to around noon this morning. Apart from offering great bargains at great prices, the markets also have a $2 sausage sizzle, $1 soft drinks and gold coin donation tea and coffee if you get peckish. Kingaroy Bowls Club Bingo
The Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event. More details? Send an email.
Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Seafood & Sax - Murgon
The Australian Hotel in Lamb Street, Murgon will be holding a Seafood & Sax Night with the South Burnett's very own Sultan of Sax Tom McKenzie from 5:30pm until late tonight. Ken Baines Disco - Kingaroy
A Ken Baines Disco with a Halloween theme will be held at Saint Mary's Parish Hall in Albert Street, Kingaroy, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm this evening. About 30 young people with disabilities usually attend, along with their carers. Everyone is welcome!
Nanango Parkrun
The newly-formed Nanango parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run along the Ros Gregor Trail at Tipperary Flat next to the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event (search for "Ros Gregor Trail" to find the group - but if you can't find it, just register and bring along the barcode).
Graham House 30th Birthday Party
Graham House at 21 Taylor Street East in Murgon will be celebrating its 30th birthday and the official opening of its new premises with a 30th Birthday Party from 9:00am to 11:00am this morning. The party will feature a free jumping castle for children along with live entertainment, an outside broadcast from CROW-FM 90.7, and guided tours through the new centre. Community Concert - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Community Youth Orchestra will be performing a free community concert at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy from 2:30pm (for a 3:00pm start) to around 5:00pm this afternoon. The concert will be followed by a Lions BBQ offering $3 sausage sizzles and $2 soft drinks or water. Everyone is welcome!
Aspies Skate Morning - Nanango
The South Burnett Autrism Support Group will be holding a free skating morning at the Nanango Blue Light shed at the corner of Elk and George Streets, Nanango from 9:30am to 12:30pm this morning. Children with autism and their parents or carers are invited along for a free, fun morning out where the venue, skates and sound system are all supplied, whether they're SBASG members or not. Saturday Cricket
Round 3 of the South Burnett's 2019-20 cricket competition will get under way at four venues across the region at 12:30pm today. In Blackbutt, Blackbutt will play Murgon Diggers at the Blackbutt cricket fields; in Kingaroy, Kingaroy Services will play Cherbourg at Taabinga State School in Kingaroy Street; and Kallindale Warriors will play Nanango at Lyle Vidler Oval; and in Wondai, Wondai will play Kumbia at the Wondai Sports Ground on the Bunya Highway. Meanwhile, in the Gympie competition, Murgon Crusaders will play the Harlequins at Murgon Sports Grounds. Canteens will be operating at some venues and spectators are very welcome.
Seafood Smorgasbord - Wooroolin
The Grand Hotel on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin will be holding a Seafood Smorgasbord from 5:30pm tonight. Tickets are $55 for adults, $45 for pensioners or $25 for children under 14. There'll also be a non-seafood option available at $20 for adults or $15 for U14s. However, bookings for either the seafood or non-seafood options are essential: (07) 4164-2261.
Smithfield Feedlot Golf Day - Proston
The Proston Golf Club on the Proston-Boondooma Road west of town will be holding its annual Smithfield Feedlot golf competition today (which is being renamed this year to the Rob Thompson Memorial Golf Day). There'll be two options for play - a 9 Hole Individual Stroke for men or women that will kick off at 8:45am and be followed by a BBQ lunch; and a 9 hole 3 Person Ambrose kicking off at 12:45pm that will be followed by a BBQ dinner. Green fees are $20 for one competition and one meal, or $25 to play both and chow down on both meals. However, RSVPs are necessary to help plan the catering. Alice Benfer & John Abbott & Co - Nanango

Heavensent Halloween Party - Kingaroy
The Commercial Hotel at the corner of Glendon and Haly Streets, Kingaroy along with DJ Heavensent and DJdirex will be hosting a Halloween Party at the pub from 9:00pm until 1:00am tonight. Guests are encouraged to dress up in their best Halloween gear, with a VIP bar open from 9:00pm and wristbands handed out from 10:00pm. Everyone is welcome. St Patricks Rockabilly Quiz Night - Nanango
St Patricks School in Nanango will be holding a Rockabilly Quiz Night at the school's hall at 16 Alfred Street, Nanango from 5:00pm tonight (when the doors open - games start at 6:00pm and trivia at 7:00pm). Play will take place in teams of 6 or 8 and guests are encouraged to dress up in their best rockabilly gear to win cash prizes.
