National Sorry Day
Today is National Sorry Day, an annual event that has been held in Australia on May 26 since 1998, to remember and commemorate the mistreatment of our country's Indigenous population. It commemorates the day the "Bringing Them Home" report was tabled in Parliament (on May 26, 1997). This date carries great significance for the Stolen Generations, as well as for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and its supporters among non-indigenous Australians. This year will also see the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Referendum, where 90.77% of Australian voters elected to give constitutional recognition to Indigenous Australians; and the 25th anniversary of the landmark Mabo High Court decision, which overturned the doctrine of "terra nullius" and recognised Indigenous land rights for the first time.

Bingo games will be running at Kingaroy RSL from 10:00am this morning (eyes down at 10:30am). There'll be four jackpots on offer, along with book games and raffles, and proceeds will go to help local good causes. Everyone is welcome. More details? Phone the RSL on (07) 4162-1755.

The Kingaroy QCWA will be holding an Information Morning Tea Day at their QCWA Rooms at 122 Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy from 9:00am to noon this morning (just next to Kingaroy RSL). Today's get-together is an opportunity for ladies to learn what the QCWA do in the local community, and to come along on a day that is not a monthly meeting to see if this is something they'd be interested in. As a bonus, there'll be a great free morning tea on offer too! (no-one does morning tea better than the QCWA). More details? Phone Lois on (07) 4162-3824
