National Sorry Day
Today is National Sorry Day, an annual event that has been held in Australia on May 26 since 1998, to remember and commemorate the mistreatment of our country's Indigenous population. It commemorates the day the "Bringing Them Home" report was tabled in Parliament (on May 26, 1997). This date carries great significance for the Stolen Generations, as well as for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and its supporters among non-indigenous Australians. This year will also see the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Referendum, where 90.77% of Australian voters elected to give constitutional recognition to Indigenous Australians; and the 25th anniversary of the landmark Mabo High Court decision, which overturned the doctrine of "terra nullius" and recognised Indigenous land rights for the first time.

The Kingaroy QCWA will be holding an Information Morning Tea Day at their QCWA Rooms at 122 Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy from 9:00am to noon this morning (just next to Kingaroy RSL).
