Kingaroy BaconFest
The first full day of the inaugural Kingaroy BaconFest will be held in and around Kingaroy today, kicking off with a community fun run and cycle ride along the South Burnett Rail Trail to Crawford (for runners) and Memerambi (for cyclists) that will open for registrations at Memorial Park at 7:00am, along with a Little Piggies In The Park morning of free fun and games for children aged up to 12 that will continue in Memorial Park until noon. Meanwhile - in Glendon Street - the gold coin donation BaconFest markets will run from 10:00am to 8:00pm, with a Miss Baconfest fashion parade at 1:00pm; a round of the Sunpork Smoke-Off BBQ Competition at 5:00pm; a performance by Risa in the forecourt from 7:00pm to 8:00pm; and a ticketed concert by The Porkers at Kingaroy Town Hall that will run from 7:30pm to 11:00pm. BaconFest will conclude tomorrow with a ticketed Long Table Breakfast at 7:30am, and a second day of markets from 10:00am to 3:00pm. You can get the full program of events on BaconFest's website.
Wondai Country Markets
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery's popular monthly Wondai Country Markets will be operating at Coronation Park in Wondai's CBD from 7:00am to 12:00 noon today. Today's markets will feature stallholders selling fresh fruit and vegetables, arts and crafts, useful knick-knacks and clothing. There'll also be live entertainment; lots and lots of other stalls selling great gifts and goodies; and special hand-made treasures from local artisans available from the Gallery's new "Studio" building just a short stroll across the park. The BBQs will also be firing up from 6:45am to dish out hearty breakfasts for early bargain hunters. Hog Fest - Maidenwell
The Maidenwell Hotel will be holding its inaugural Hog Fest from 2:00pm to 10:00pm this afternoon and evening as a fundraiser for the Queensland Cancer Council. The get-together is hosted by the Road Tramps Motorcycle Club and will feature free camping, a pig on a spit dinner and live music from popular country rock entertainer Arthur Nettelfield. There'll also be a best tattoo competition, a helmet toss and other activities, and everyone is welcome. More details from the hotel on (07) 4164-6133.
Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event. More details? Send an email.
Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at the old railway station building at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for its regular Saturday get-together today, kicking off with a cuppa around 9:00am and running until noon. New members are always welcome. More details? Phone Geoff on 0439-694-000.
South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip
Noosaville's Outbike Australia will be running a South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip for cyclists today. The day trip will pick up participants at Noosa, Noosaville and Gympie and will offer three options: an easy ride from Kingaroy to Murgon (45km sealed); a hard ride from Murgon to Kilkivan (45km unsealed); and an extreme 90km ride from Kingaroy to Kilkivan. Bus fares are $120 return from Noosa, and bikes can be hired for $20 if you don't have your own. South Burnett locals are also welcome to take part, and there's $40 rider and bike transfers from Kilkivan to Kingaroy available if you need help getting back home. More details? Men's Saturday Bowls - Yarraman
The Yarraman Bowls Club in Margaret Street, Yarraman will be holding their weekly Men's Lawn Bowls games from 9:30am this morning. New players are always welcome. More details from the club: (07) 4163-8269.
Swing Magic At The Palace Ballroom - Nanango
The Palace Hotel in Drayton Street, Nanango will be holding an other of their popular swing jazz nights in the hotel's ballroom from 6:00pm to around 10:00pm this evening. Fortunato - Kingaroy
Popular entertainer Fortunato Isgro will be performing at the Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street, Kingaroy from 7:00pm until 11:00pm tonight. Admission is free. More details from the RSL on (07) 4162-1755.
Saturday Soccer - Nanango
South Burnett football will be holding their Senior Preliminary Final at the Nanango sports fields in Burnett Street today, with four teams battling it out to see which two will secure a berth in the Grand Finals next Saturday. In the Women's Division, Nanango's Panthers will play the Gunnettes at 1:00pm, and they'll be followed by the Men's Division clash between Barambah and Gunners at 3:00pm. A canteen will be operating in the grounds and spectators are very welcome.
Men's Breakfast And Working Bee
South Burnett Ministries will be holding a men's breakfast at 4 Ivins Street in Kingaroy at 7:00am this morning (BYO meat and $2 - cereal, bread, spreads, tea and coffee will be supplied), followed by a working bee to lay concrete. Everyone who'd like to help is welcome.
Rugby League Semi-Finals - Cherbourg
The Semi Finals of this year's South Burnett rugby league competition will be played at Jack O'Chin Oval in Cherbourg today. The action will kick off at 9:00am with Kingaroy v Nanango in U12s, followed at 10:00am with Murgon v Cherbourg in U12s. At 11:00am, Murgon will play Central Burnett in U14s, followed by Kingaroy v Chinchilla in U14s at 12:10pm. At 1:20pm, Murtgon v Kingaroy in U16s, followed at 2:35pm with U16s Nanango v Chinchilla. After this, at 4:00pm Cherbourg's Hornets will play Murgon's Mustangs in A grade for a Preliminary Finals berth; and at 5:30pm, Nanango's Stags will play Kingaroy's Red Ants in a second A-grade clash, with the winner going into the Grand Final and the loser into the Preliminary Final. A canteen will be running in grounds and spectators are very welcome.
Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
