Saint Mary's Catholic College Trivia Night - Kingaroy
St Mary's Catholic College will be holding a Mad Hatters Trivia Night at the Maryknoll Centre inside the college's grounds at 10 Kent Street, Kingaroy at 6:30pm this evening (play starts at 7:00pm sharp). Tickets are $80 per table (for teams of 8 players) and light snacks and beverages will be available for purchase. The event is a fundraiser for the Year 12 Valedictory Dinner and the minimum age for all contestants is 18. Naturally, all guests are encouraged to wear their maddest hats! Kingaroy QCWA Craft Day
The Kingaroy branch of the QCWA will be holding one of their regular Craft Days at the QCWA Rooms in Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy (just next to Kingaroy RSL) from 9:00am to around 12:00 noon this morning, and you're very welcome to bring along your own craft projects (and something to share for morning tea) for just $1. Branch craft days are always social mornings and guests are welcome come along, enjoy a great morning tea and share the fun of learning a craft together, or just enjoy a natter and friendship. Note Craft Days are usually held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month, but today's get-together was moved ahead to avoid a clash with this year's Anzac Day comemorations.
Wondai Country Markets
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery's popular monthly Wondai Country Markets will be operating at Coronation Park in Wondai's CBD from 7:00am to 12:00 noon today. Today's markets will feature stallholders selling fresh fruit and vegetables, arts and crafts, useful knick-knacks and clothing. There'll also be live entertainment; lots and lots of other stalls selling great gifts and goodies; and special hand-made treasures from local artisans available from the Gallery's new "Studio" building just a short stroll across the park. The Wondai Kindergarten's BBQs will also be firing up from 6:45am to dish out hearty breakfasts to early bargain hunters. Spirit Of The Bush Balladeers Muster - Boondooma
The fourth day of the week-long Spirit Of The Bush Balladeers & Heritage Muster will be held at Boondooma Homestead at 8262 Durong-Mundubbera Road, Boondooma today. This popular annual campout week features lots of Australia's top bush balladeers and poets (51 will be appearing at the Muster this year) along with walk-up artists. The Muster routinely attracts 700 to 800 caravanners plus day-trippers, and in addition to bucketloads of non-stop great music there'll also be great camp oven meals, a licensed bar, BBQ, stalls, displays of vintage cars and engines, photography and historical items. Tickets are $100 for the full seven days of the festival, or $25 if you just want a day pass for today only (children under 15 are free). Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event. More details? Send an email.
Yarraman Progress Association Bowls Afternoon
The Yarraman Progress Association in conjunction with the Yarraman Bowls Club will be holding a Fun Bowls Afternoon at the bowls club in Margaret Street from 12:30pm today (for a 1:00pm start). Bowlers and non-bowlers are both very welcome. More details? Phone Joe on 0459-638-282.
Saturday Soccer - Wondai and Kingaroy
After a two-week break for Easter, the South Burnett's 2017 soccer season will hold its third round in Wondai and Kingaroy today. In Wondai, Barambah will play Wests at the Wondai Soccer Fields just north of the Wondai Sportsgrounds on the Bunya Highway, with 2nd Division hitting the park at 12:30pm, Women's Division at 2:00pm and 1st Division at 3:15pm. In Kingaroy, Gunners will play Nanango's Panthers at Tom Alford Oval in Oliver Bond Street, with 2nd Division kicking off at 2:00pm, Women's Division at 3:30pm and 1st Division at 5:00pm. Admission to view the matches is free, and a canteen will be running at both venues. Spectators are very welcome. Meanwhile, the 2017 Junior Soccer competition will kick off today at the junior soccer fields in Oliver Bond Street, with the first matches getting underway at 8:30am in all classes from U6s to U10/11s. Cadets and U12/13s will hit the park slightly earlier at 8:00am.
Manumbar Campdraft
The second day of the three-day Manumbar Campdraft will be held at the Manumbar Campdrafting Grounds from 6:30am until dusk today. This year's draft will feature a Maiden Draft; a Junior Draft for riders aged 8 to 13 years; a Juvenile Draft; a Restricted Draft for horses which have won an Open or Novice Draft; and a Novice Draft. A licensed bar will be operating all day and evening and there'll be meals, hot showers and limited powered sites in the grounds. Admission to the draft is 100% free for spectators. More details? Rough As Guts - Nanango
Popular South Burnett band Rough As Guts will be performing at the Palace Hotel at 77 Drayton Street, Nanango from 7:30pm to 11:30pm this evening, supported by the winsome Rough As Guts Girls (their biggest fans). Pottery and Botanical Art Workshops - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery in Haly Street, Kingaroy (opposite the peanut silos) will be holding two art workshops today. In the main gallery, artist Diana Bolton will be running a Botanical Art workshop from 10:00am to noon; and in the 1913 Council Chambers behind the gallery, well-known Goomeri potter Fay Stumm will be holding an all-day pottery workshop from 9:00am to 4:00pm where students will learn how to make a small pottery figurine. Diana's workshop is free, but Fay's workshop is $50 to cover the cost of materials and kiln firing. Everyone is welcome!
Wondai ALP Branch Meeting
The Wondai ALP branch will be holding their monthly general meeting at the Cecil Hotel in Mackenzie Street, Wondai at 11:00am this morning. All people who'd like to join or have an interest in the party are very welcome to attend.
Saturday Rugby League - Wondai and Murgon
The South Burnett's 2017 rugby league season will get underway today, with A-grade clashes between the Wondai Wolves and Cherbourg's Hornets at the Wondai Sportsgrounds on the Bunya Highway, Wondai at 3:00pm; and the Murgon Mustangs and Kingaroy's Red Ants at the Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street, Murgon at 3:30pm. These A-grade matches will be preceded by junior rugby league matches at both grounds. In Wondai, U6s and U8s will play at 10:30am, U10s at 11:15am, and U12s 12:10pm, followed by U14s at 1:20pm. And in Murgon, U6s will play at 8:00am, U8s at 8:30am, U10s at 9:30am, U12s at 11:00am, U14s at 12:30pm, and a combined U16s Wondai-Murgon team against the Hornets at 2:00pm. Canteens will be running at both venues and spectators are very welcome.
