Maidenwell Running Festival
The final day of the 5th annual Maidenwell Running Festival (formerly known as the Maidenwell Marathon) will be held at the Maidenwell Sportsgrounds today. As the name suggests, the Marathon is for runners and walkers covers 12 events over three days, ranging from 400m foot races to a 56km ultra-marathon. Whatever your fitness or competitive level - and no matter whether you're walking or running - the festival has a distance to suit everyone. Today the Festival will kick off at the Maidenwell Sports Grounds at 6:00am where runners will have the choice of a half marathon, a full marathon or one of a trio of relay races over 7km, 14km or 21km. These will be followed at 8:00am by the final of the 400m foot race, then at 9:00am with the final of the 120m Maidenwell Gift. Later tonight there'll be a BBQ meal available in a marked, unrestricted area next to the Maidenwll Hotel, which will be hosting the annual Maidenwell Bull Ride. Free camping is also available at the Sports Grounds on a first-come, first-served basis if you'd like to stay the full weekend. Maidenwell Bull Ride
The annual Maidenwell Bull Ride will be held behind the Maidenwell Hotel from 5:00pm until late tonight to wrap up the three-day Maidenwell Running Festival. There'll also be a barbecue dinner available nearby, and after the bull ride winds down there'll be live music playing until late tonight. There's an admission fee to get in to see the Bull Ride, which runs in a restricted access area ($15 for adults, $10 for high school students, or $40 for a family - primary school age and younger children are free) but there's no admission fee if you just want to see the band. Free camping and hot showers are available in the hotel's grounds too. If you enjoy rodeo action, the Bull Ride is always a really great night out - and it's also a major fundraiser for the Tanduringie State School P&C. More details? Phone the hotel on (07) 4164-6133.
Big Booie Easter BBQ
Cranes Winery on Haydens Road at Booie will be holding the second (and final) day of their annual Big Booie Easter BBQ from 10:00am to 4:00pm today. Winemaker Bernie Cooper will be donning his chef's apron to cook up sizzling BLT burgers, chicken burgers with chimichurri, snack cheese platters and jumbo cheese platters - and if you can manage to fit in dessert, there'll also be three flavours of home-made cheese cakes available (jaffa, peanut brittle or choc mint), all served with a shot of one of Cranes' fabulous Booie Range Liqueurs. Popular entertainer Guy Davis will also be providing hours of relaxed live music during lunch. In addition, Cranes' full range of award-winning wines will be available as well. Kumbia Charity Campdraft
The second (and final) day of the two-day Kumbia & District Charity Campdraft will be held at the Kumbia Sportsgrounds off Bell Street in Kumbia from early this morning when the canteen opens and begins serving up Big Country Breakfasts through until late this afternoon. This year's Campdraft will have a bumper field of competitors and will be offering some really great Easter campdrafting action, with today's competitions featuring a Junior draft and a Juvenile draft, along with the finals of the Maiden and Novice drafts begun yesterday. This evening after the campdraft concludes there'll be a great pig-on-a-spit roast dinner and dessert on offer, catered by the Kumbia Rattlers Cricket Club. Admission to the campdraft is 100% free for spectators. There's also free overnight camping in the Sportsgrounds all weekend if you want to stay over. Everyone is welcome! More details? Easter At Barambah Cellars
Barambah Cellars - the South Burnett's newest cellar door at 167 Tipperary Road at Moffatdale - will be open for wine tastings and gourmet platters from 10:30am to 4:30pm today and Monday. Barambah Cellars stock hard-to-get South Burnett wines from Nuova Scuola (ie "New School"), Lightning Tree Wines and Hillsdale Estate along with local gourmet produce, and are run by three of the region's top winemakers and viticulturalists. Timbertowns Woodworkers - Blackbutt
The Timbertowns Woodworkers group will be holding their regular Sunday morning meeting at the Blackbutt Showgrounds in Bowman Road, Blackbutt from 8:30am until around 12:00 noon today. Easter Sunday Fun Day - Kingaroy
Kingsley Grove Estate at 49 Stuart Valley Drive south-west of Kingaroy will be holding an Easter Sunday Fun Day from 10:30am this morning until late this afternoon. There will be an Easter Egg hunt in the vineyard (BYO baskets) and children can enjoy a jumping castle and face painting activities, while their parents sit back and enjoy a glass of their favourite Kingsley Grove wine. There'll also be a selection of wood-fired pizzas available for lunch between noon and 1pm, and wine ice-creams for dessert (plain for children). Tickets are $40 per head for adults and $15 per head for children aged 10-17 (under 10s are free), but bookings are essential to properly plan the catering: 0414-230-128.
Sunday Bingo - Wondai
Bingo games will be held at the Wondai RSL in Mackenzie Street, Wondai this afternoon, with eyes down from 1:30pm. There will be 3 jackpots and 15 games on offer, and the kitchen will be open for light meals. Proceeds will go to help Wondai RSL veterans. More details? Phone (07) 4168-5297.
Easter Family Fun Morning - Nanango
Historic Ringsfield House at 41-45 Alfred Street, Nanango will be holding an Easter Family Fun Morning from 9:00am until around noon today. Activities for children include Easter basket making and an Easter Egg hunt ($10), a jumping castle ($4), face painting ($4 with funds donated to the All Inclusive Butter Factory Park project) and a sausage sizzle. Sunday Afternoon Poker
Sunday afternoon poker games will be played at Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street, Kingaroy today. Registrations start at 2:00pm and play begins at 2:30pm. All games are free to play and there are prizes for first, second and third. More details? Phone the RSL on (07) 4162-1755
Open Mic Afternoon At The Fitzroy
CANCELLED: The Fitzroy Hotel in Fitzroy Street, Nanango will be holding an Open Mic Jam Session from 2:00pm to around 6:00pm this afternoon, hosted by Mr Q. Anyone is welcome to put their name up on the blackboard and - when their turn comes - perform up to 20 minutes of originals or covers. All PAs, guitars and drums will be provided by Mr Q. There'll also be meals available from noon to 2:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm if you get hungry. Everyone is welcome along for a great afternoon of live music and family fun! More details? Moffatdale Boutique Markets
The quarterly Moffatdale Boutique Markets will be running at the Yallakool Tourist Park on Bjelke-Petersen Dam at Moffatdale from 10:00am to 3:00pm today. The markets will feature more than 45 artisan stall holders along with four food trucks, two coffee vans, a jumping castle and children's activities. There's no admission fee and everyone is welcome to come along and browse for Easter treasures.
Easter At The Moffatdale Wineries
If you'd like to take a break at a winery over Easter, Moffatdale Ridge on Barambah Road at Moffatdale and Clovely Estate on Steinhardt's Road will both be open today. Clovely's cellar door offers the widest range of award-winning wines in region, including wonderful Mediterranean varieties that are largely unknown to most Australians (eg: Barbera, Nebbiolo, Petit Verdot and Sangiovese) along with more traditional red and white varieties. Over Easter, Clovely's cellar door will be open from 10:00am to 4:00pm daily for wine and olive oil tastings. Moffatdale Ridge, meanwhile, will be open the same hours and in addition to wine tastings, their cafe can provide morning and afternoon teas and lunches as well. Bookings aren't necessary at either winery, but are always appreciated if you're bringing a big group.
Nanango Panthers Movie Night
The Nanango Panthers will be holding a free Outdoor Movie Night at the Burnett Street sports fields in Nanango from 5:00pm this evening (movie screening starts at 6:00pm). The night's feature movie is the recently-released animated classic How To Train Your Dragon III - The Hidden World (rated PG), the heart-warming tale of how Toothless the dragon finally met his mate and how he, his human partner Hiccup and Hiccup's feisty fiancee Astrid went on to liberate dragons everywhere. This beautiful film is the final in a trio of How To Train Your Dragon movies. It was only released in cinemas this January, and it scored a high 88 to 91 out of 100 rating from movie review site Rotten Tomatoes. The Panthers canteen will also be open and will be offering $7 meals, snacks and soft drinks. Everyone is welcome - just BYO blanket or chair. Note: This event was originally planned for Saturday, but has been postponed to this evening due to rain.
Kilkivan Railway Markets
The weekly Kilkivan Railway Markets will be held in Lester Millar Park in Kilkivan from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon this morning. Blackbutt Country Markets
The Blackbutt Lions Country Markets - run on the third Sunday of every month - will be held at Les Muller Park in Hart Street, Blackbutt from 7:00am until around mid-day today.
