2017 Murgon Show
The gates will open at Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street, Murgon at 6:00am this morning for the second (and main) day of the 94th Annual Murgon Show. This year's Show will feature a very big range of cattle and horse events and things will move into full gear from 8:00am onwards with judging for stud beef cattle, followed by poultry judging. There'll also be horse events for hacks and show jumping in the main arena, along with an all breeds Dog Show; a bumper Sideshow Alley; pavilion and trade exhibits; and all the fun of a great Aussie fair. This year's Murgon Show will be officially opened at around 1:30pm in front of the grandstand, and there'll also be a spectacular fireworks display mid-way through the evening at around 7:00pm. Other things to look out for this year include a Ute Show; Miss Showgirl and Miss Junior Showgirl; a Wearable Art Parade; children's entertainers The Kangagang; live muysic; and a Rodeo in the evening. Admission to the Show is $10 for adults; $8 for concessions; $5 for high school students; or $20 for a family (2 adults plus 2 high school age children). Children 11 and below are admitted free. Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event. More details? Send an email.
Friendship Markets - Kingaroy
The third Saturday of the month Friendship Markets will be held at the Cheers Triangle end of the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 7:00am to around 12:00pm today. The markets are jointly run by the Kingaroy Rotary Club and Kingaroy Show Society and they feature a great array of arts, crafts, fruit and flower stalls. New stallholders are always very welcome! 70s Dance With Muddy Flats - Blackbutt
The Blackbutt Show Society will be holding a licensed 1970s Dance with music supplied by the South Burnett's favourite R&B band Muddy Flats at the Blackbutt Showgrounds in Bowman Road, Blackbutt from 6:30pm until late tonight. Guests are encouraged to dress up in 1970s gear and there'll be prizes for the best outfits. Food will also be available on site. Nanango Past Residents Reunion - Nanango
The Nanango & District Past and Present Residents group will be holding their annual reunion in the gardens of Ringsfield House at 45 Alfred Street, Nanango from 9:30am to around 2:00pm today. All current and former residents are invited along, but please BYO chair because seating is limited. A Devonshire morning tea and lunch will be available, but people who'd like to buy these should RSVP by March 4 to help plan the catering. Otherwise, BYO picnic basket. More details? RSVPs? Kingaroy QCWA Girls Craft Club
The Kingaroy QCWA Girls Craft Club will be holding its third Saturday of the month meeting at the Kingaroy QCWA Rooms at 122 Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy from 1:00pm to 4:00pm this afternoon. The club - which is for young girls aged 10 and above - teaches basic life skills like sewing, embroidery, healthy cooking and catering. South Burnett Speedway - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Speedway Club will be holding the latest meeting at their track inside the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy this afternoon and evening. The focus of today's meeting will be Super Sedans competing in Round 10 of the Think Money series, and Modified Sedans competing in the grand final of the IBRP Golden Helmet series, but there'll also be Junior Sedans and Production Sedans racing too. The main gate will open at 2:00pm and the first pedals will hit the metal at 5:00pm. Admission is $25 for adults and $15 for concessions and students. Under 12s can get in for free if accompanied by an adult, and a canteen will be operating on site, too. You can find out more on the Speedway's website.
Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding their Wednesday meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Saturday Cricket - Wondai and Kingaroy
The semi-finals of this year's South Burnett B-grade cricket competition will be played at two venues today. In Wondai, the Murgon Diggers will play off against Cherbourg at the Wondai Sportsgrounds off the Bunya Highway north of Wondai's CBD; and at Kingaroy State School, the Wooroolin Warriors B will play the Wondai Wolves to determine which of them will go on to the season's Grand Final. Meanwhile - in the A-grade competition - Wooroolin Warriors and Kumbia Rattlers will do battle at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy in Youngman Street, Kingaroy (just next to Beangrowers) to see who'll play against Crusaders in the A-grade Grand Final next week. Spectators are very welcome, and most games will start around lunch-time.
Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at the old railway station building at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for its regular Saturday morning meeting today, kicking off with a cuppa at 9:00am. Saturday Golf - Nanango
The Nanango Golf Club on the D'Aguilar Highway north of town will be holding its annual Bob Jane T-Mart 2 Person Ambrose today. Names need to be in by 10:00am for a 10:30am shotgun start, and members, visitors and social players are all welcome. The Dukes - Kingaroy

Seafood Smorgasbord - Wondai
Dimities Cottage at 49 Haly Street in Wondai will be holding another of their popular monthly all-you-can-eat Seafood Buffets from 6:30pm this evening (dinner starts at 7:00pm). The Buffet features all your favourite hot and cold seafoods fresh from the trawlers, as well as non-seafood dishes, desserts, tea and coffee. Left Bank Garage & Clearing Sale - Kilkivan
The Left Bank Cafe and B&B at 10 Bligh Street in Kilkivan will be holding a giant Garage & Clearing Sale from 8:00am this morning (and also tomorrow). Owners Bruce and Rae Hurley are retiring after operating the iconic venue the past 17 years, and there'll be lots of stock for sale along with memorabilia, collectables and 17 years of accumulated treasures. St Patricks Day After Party - Maidenwell
If you missed celebrating St Patricks Day yesterday, all is not lost! Get along to the Maidenwell Hotel from noon to 4:00pm this afternoon, where they'll be holding a St Patricks Day After Party. The Murrumba Pipes and Drums Band will be there, playing all sorts of Irish music in a Scottish sort of way. There'll also be lots of green stuff - wear some of your own! - and Irish banter, and it's sure to be a blast. If you've never heard them before, the Murrumba Pipes and Drums are a professional military and civilian band who have played at events up and down the east coast.
