Maidenwell Running Festival
The third and final day of the 3rd annual Maidenwell Running Festival (formerly known as the Maidenwell Marathon) will be held at Maidenwell today. As the name suggests, the Marathon is for runners and walkers, and today will offer the biggest choice of events, ranging from a half or full marathon that starts at 6:00am; a 10km run that starts at 7:00am; a 5km run that starts at 8:15am; or a modest 2.2km run that starts at 9:15am. All runs will start and finish at the Maidenwell Sports Ground, and while they're happening there'll be an Easter Egg hunt and other fun activities for children. The nearby Maidenwell Rural Fire Brigade will also be holding an Open Day from 8:00am to 4:00pm where visitors can inspect their equipment and pick up handy literature. The Festival will conclude with the annual Maidenwell Bull Ride (see entry below). Free camping is also available at the Sports Grounds if you'd like to stay the full weekend. You can read more about the Maidenwell Running Festival on the Festival's website, or phone Bronwyn on 0439-842-412. You can also read more about what the 2015 Marathon was like on our website.
Maidenwell Bull Ride
The annual Maidenwell Bull Ride will be held behind the Maidenwell Hotel from 5:00pm until late tonight to wrap up the three-day Maidenwell Running Festival. There'll also be a barbecue dinner available at the hotel, and after the bull ride winds down there'll be live music performed by Boots’n'Bandits, a top flight band that recently performed in Tamworth, playing until late tonight. There's an admission fee to get in to see the Bull Ride, which runs in a restricted access area, but no admission fee if you just want to see the band. Free camping and hot showers are available in the hotel's grounds too. If you enjoy rodeo action, the Bull Ride is always a really great night out. More details? Phone the hotel on (07) 4164-6133.
Wondai Autumn Garden Expo
The second (and final) day of the weekend long Wondai Autumn Garden Expo will be held at the Wondai Sports Grounds off the Bunya Highway just north of Wondai's CBD from 8:00am this morning through until 1:00pm this afternoon. The Expo is one of the largest gardening shows of its type in south-east Queensland, and it always draws thousands of keen gardeners to Wondai every April. The Wondai Art Gallery are also running a special exhibition on a floral theme too - so make sure you check out both venues! As well as the usual huge range of plant and garden-related product displays, the Expo will also feature a number of interesting and well-informed guest speakers talking on a variety of gardening topics throughout the day. Guests can also get to enjoy a brilliant Flower Show and live musical entertainment. There'll also be plenty of food and drink outlets dotted around the grounds too. Admission is a slim $5 per day (young people under 15 can get in for free) and you can get more details and/or book a stand of your own on the Garden Expo's website or by phoning Helen on (07) 4168-9297.
