Wondai Sprints
The first day of the weekend-long, third annual Wondai Sprints sprint car races will be held at the Wondai Industrial Estate off the Bunya Highway just north of Wondai's CBD today. Race time trials will be held from 8:45am to around 4:30pm, and there'll be food and merchandise stands on site. Over 125 entrants have nominated for this year's Sprints in classes including historic, touring cars, sports sedans, racing cars and special interest. Dance - Booie Hall
A dance will be held at Booie Hall at 1867 Booie Road from 8:00pm until midnight tonight. Music will be supplied by Mark's Music and there'll be the usual great supper, novelties and lucky door prize. Graham House Fun Golf Day - Murgon
Graham House Community Centre will be holding a Fun Golf Day at the Murgon Golf Club on the Burnett Highway north of the CBD, with a shotgun start at 11:00am. The day will take the form of a 3 person ambrose over 18 holes, and non-golfers are very welcome. There'll be prizes, raffles, gourmet hot dogs, a drinks cart and an after party with music. Green fees are $20 and proceeds of the day will go towards Graham House's programs to assist families in need. Everyone is welcome! Mr Q - Kingaroy
Popular South Burnett band Mr Q will be performing at the Commercial Hotel at the corner of Glendon and Haly Streets in Kingaroy from 8:00pm until late tonight, jaming with The Bourbon Boys. Admission is free. More details from the hotel on (07) 4162-1380.
Golden Spurs Campdraft - Proston
The second day of the three-day Golden Spurs Campdraft will get underway at the Proston Showgrounds on the Proston-Boondooma Road at 6:30am this morning with the Tyndale Santa Gertrudis Novice Draft. This will be followed a Junior 8-U13 draft, and then the Greg Cruice Saddlery Juvenile 13 and under 17 years, before wrapping up with the Dunlop Santa’s Restricted Open, which is only open to horses that have won an Open, Novice, Maiden or Ladies draft. A bar, meals and entertainment will all be available onsite and admission is 100% free for spectators. Everyone is welcome!
Clearing Sale - Ellesmere
A Clearing Sale will be held at 26 Paul's Parade in Ellesmere at 9:30am this morning (look for the signs). The sale will offer household goods, garden items, vehicles, camper trailers, caravans, vintage goods and Australiana collectables, and there'll be catering onsite. Wooly Rally - Wooroolin
The second (and main) day of the three day Wooly Rally will kick off at 7:00am this morning with the monthly Wooroolin Markets and a sausage sizzle, which will run until around noon. They'll be followed by novelty events at 2:00pm, and then a parade for the "Best Blokes In Pink" at 3:00pm; "Best Welded Contraption" at 4:00pm; and "Best Pillion" at 5:00pm. There'll also be a Happy Vest Hour at the Grand between 4:00pm and 5:00pm for those who wear biker vests, and live music from 8:00pm until late this evening. The Dynamics - Kingaroy
Entertainers The Dynamics will be performing at the Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street, Kingaroy from 7:00pm until late tonight. Admission is free. More details from the RSL on (07) 4162-1755
Saturday Soccer - Kingaroy
With the local competition taking a 4-week break until April 21, all eyes will be on Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street in Kingaroy at 5:00pm today when South Burnett United play Chinchilla in the 5th round of the Darling Downs football competition. So far this season, United have won three games and drawn one, which puts them narrowly on top of the table, while Chinchilla occupy 5th spot. The last time United played a home game the crowds were huge and if you enjoy top-level football, they'll probably be huge for this match too. A bar and canteen will be operating on site, there's no entrance fee and everyone is welcome! Note: This match was originally scheduled to be held last Saturday, but was postponed at the last minute.
Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event. More details? Send an email.
South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip
Noosaville's Outbike Australia will be running a South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip for cyclists today. The day trip will pick up participants at Noosa, Noosaville and Gympie and will offer three options: an easy ride from Kingaroy to Murgon (45km sealed); a hard ride from Murgon to Kilkivan (45km unsealed); and an extreme 90km ride from Kingaroy to Kilkivan. Bus fares are $120 return from Noosa, and bikes can be hired for $20 if you don't have your own. South Burnett locals are also welcome to take part, and there's $40 rider and bike transfers from Kilkivan to Kingaroy available if you need help getting back home. More details? Saturday Rugby League - Murgon
The second round of the South Burnett's 2018 rugby league competition will get underway at the Murgon Showgrounds at 5:00pm tonight when the Murgon Mustangs play the Wondai Wolves in A-grade. This will be followed at 6:30pm with a second A-grade match, this time between the Nanango Stags ande Cherbourg Hornets. A canteen will be running in the grounds and spectators are very welcome. Note: There are no junior rugby league games until April 21, but junior players from Murgon, Wondai and Kingaroy will be heading to Burrum Heads to take part in the annual Jock Butterfield Memorial Carnival today. There will also be some U13s, U14s and U16s trial games between South Burnett and the Toowoomba Clydesdales in Nanango tomorrow (see entry that day for more details).
Barambah Shed Men - Murgon
The Barambah Shed Men will be holding their 39th meeting at the Murgon Men's Shed at 79 Macalister Street, Murgon (opposite Murgon Fruit Mart) from 4:00pm onwards this afternoon. Today's meeting will feature two lots of guest speakers - Keith Hatchett will be showing and talking about his restored Rugby Car; Spike Butler will talk about his Hot Rod; and Kev Fry will talk about his Sprint Car. They'll be followed by Cam Rub, a very accomplished radio announcer who's managed three radio stations and now has early Sunday morning session at Crow FM. Cam has been an International Missionary, is a school Chappy and is also a youth worker. The cost of the meeting is $10 (which includes a meal, dessert, soft drinks, and tea/coffee), but young blokes under 15 can attend for free. The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today (ie opposite Bendigo Bank). The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held on the second Saturday of every month. Health Seminar - Kilkivan
A "Spanner In The Works" health seminar for men and women will be held at the CWA Hall in Park Street, Kilkivan at 10:00am this morning. This free seminar is being delivered by A Step to Better Health, South Burnett Health Mission and Julie Downes and it will look at ways people can prevent or minimise health issues in themselves and their community. The seminar will be followed by light refreshments and the opportunity to seek advice. Everyone is welcome.
Pop-Up Motorcycle Ride - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Junior Motorcycle Club will be holding a pop up ride day this afternoon from 1:30pm on their track at Edenvale behind Kingaroy Airport (riding starts at 2:00pm). Fees will be discounted below normal because the track won't be prepared, but the club expects to get 4 long motos in for everyone to ride.
