Kilkivan Community Christmas Carnival
Kilkivan will be holding a Community Christmas Carnival at the Kilkivan Showgrounds at 88 Mudlo Road west of town from 6:00pm until late tonight. The carnival will feature a licensed bar, a BBQ, live entertainment from Linc Phelps and will also include a visit from Santa Claus, who'll be dropping into town to surprise and delight young children. There's no admission fee and everyone is welcome!
Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held weekly. Everyone is welcome and if you'd like to book a stall yourself - it's only $5! - call Joe on (0459) 638-282. Note: All patrons and stallholders are asked to observe proper social distancing to stay safe.
4th Annual Bikes & Beers Ride - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Mountain Bike Club will be holding their 4th annual Bikes & Beers Ride in Kingaroy this afternoon. Participants will have a choice of two circuits - 10k to 15km along the South Burnett Rail Trail or single trails around Mt Wooroolin - and the event will finish with refreshments at the Commercial Hotel. The event is open to all mountain bike riders and it's free. To take part, just meet up at PSM Probike in Haly Street, Kingaroy at 3:30pm for a 3:45pm roll-ff. More details? Goomeri Beef Summer Show
The Goomeri Show Society will be hosting the Goomeri Beef Summer Show at the Showgrounds in Laird Street, Goomeri from 9:00am this morning. This is an all breeds cattle show for Bulls, Females and Led Steers across 17 classes and a great chance for intending 2021 agricultural show nominees to get in a bit of practice beforehand. The event is also COVID Safe and tick free, and spectators are very welcome to come along too. More details are available online or you can phone David on 0427-169-043 or Ellen on 0428-684-122.
Fish Fingerlings Release - BP Dam
The Bjelke-Petersen Dam Fish Stocking Association will be releasing Yellowbelly and Golden Perch fish fingerlings at the main boat ramp near the dam wall at 10.00am this morning, and families who'd like to help out with this semi-regular vent are very welcome to come along and join in. The Association will also have brag mats available for $25 and stickers ($3 each or two for $5), with all proceeds going back into future fish stocking efforts. Everyone is welcome!
Saturday Afternoon Social Bowls - Proston
The Proston Bowls Club in Murphy Way, Proston (just behind Proston Rural) will be holding a social bowls afternoon from 1:00pm today, and non-bowlers and new bowlers are particularly welcome - just wear soft-soled shoes or come barefoot (bowls will be available at the club). Kingaroy Speedway Christmas Cup Meeting
The South Burnett Speedway will roar into life at the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy tonight with its Christmas Cup meeting - the last for 2020. Tonight's get-together will feature the Uniform Zone Queensland Street Stock Titles, the Super Sedan Queensland Series, and Round 3 of the Junior Sedan All Star Series. Gates will open at 2:00pm, racing will start at 4:00pm and the excitement will continue until around 10:30pm tonight. Admission is $25 for adults, $15 for students (with ID) and aged or disability pensioners or $65 for a family of two adults and up to three students (children 12 and under are free). Everyone is welcome! Note: This event is being run under COVID Safe conditions, so some restrictions will apply.
Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed runs at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event. More details? Send an email.
Nanango Parkrun
The Nanango parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run along the Ros Gregor Trail at Tipperary Flat next to the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event.
Saturday Cricket
The South Burnett's cricketers will be playing in Gympie, Kingaroy and Nanango today. In A Grade, Wooroolin Warriors will take on Gympie Valleys in an away game at Gympie to battle it out for a spot in next Saturday's A-Grade Grand Final. In B Grade, the last round of the current series of T20 games will be played. At 11:30am, Cherbourg will play Murgon's Diggers at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy; Kumbia Rattlers will play Nanango Scorpions at Kingaroy State School in Alford Street; and Wondai Wolves will play Kingaroy Services at the Burnett Street sports fields in Nanango. After this - at 3:00pm - Murgon Diggers will play whoever wins this morning's clash between Nanango and Kumbia in the T20 Series Final at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy (which should be a great way to get ready for a brief Festive Season break). Meanwhile, there won't be any Junior games this weekend because it's now school holidays. But they will resume towards the end of January next year when school returns.
