South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Wondai Winter Race Day
The South Burnett Race Club will be holding their annual Wondai Winter Race Day meeting at the Wondai race track in Cadell Street, Wondai from around 12:00 noon today (the first race leaves the barriers at 1:20pm). The theme of today's meeting is "Winter Wonderland" and guests are encouraged to dress to this theme to be in the running for great prizes in the hotly-contested Fashions Of The Field competition. As usual, the meeting will feature an on-course TAB; live telecasts of Brisbane and interstate races (along with interstate betting fluctuations); a vigorous undercover betting ring; a great BBQ and bar and a Punters Podium. The always popular Lady Luck Cocktail Bar will be in full swing too, along with the track's canteen, and admission to the meeting is just $10. Buses will be leaving the Fitzroy Hotel in Nanango at noon, the Commercial Hotel in Kingaroy at 12:30pm, Proston’s Golden Spurs Hotel at 11:30am, the Hivesville Hotel at 11:45am and the Murgon Newsagency at 12:30pm (phone 0402-715-242 to guarantee a seat). Wooroolin Community Markets
The Wooroolin Community Markets will be held inside the Wooroolin QCWA Rooms on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin from 6:00am until around 12:00 noon this morning. The markets offer stalls, a sausage sizzle, fresh produce, plants and crafts and are run on the 2nd Saturday of every month except January. Kingaroy Junior Motorcycle Club Race Day
The Kingaroy Junior Motorcycle Speedway Club will be holding their third Race Day for 2016 in the Kingaroy McDonalds Race Series today. Racing will be in Peewee, 125cc and 250cc classes at the club's track inside main ring at the Kingaroy Showgrounds (entry is via Avoca Street). Gates will open at 12:00 noon and racing will commence at 2:00pm. The club is for young riders aged 4 to 16 and spectators are very welcome. More details? Phone Simon on 0467-181-762. Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today (ie opposite Bendigo Bank). The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held on the second Saturday of every month. Saturday Soccer - Kingaroy and Murgon
After a week's break for the winter school vacation, Round 12 of the 2016 South Burnett Football League competition will be played at Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street in Kingaroy and at the Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street today. Today's matches - and the three weekly rounds that will follow them until the end of this month - are the last four games of the season before the Semi-Final, Preliminary Final and Grand Final. So the competition is expected to be especially fierce and the gameplay from all teams very tight. In Kingaroy, Gunners will play the Nanango Panthers with 2nd Division hitting the park at 2:00pm; Women's Division at 3:30pm; and 1st Division at 5:00pm. And in Murgon, Barambah will play Wests with 2nd Division kicking off at 2:00pm, Women's Division at 3:30pm and 1st Division at 5:00pm. Canteens will be running at both venues and spectators are very welcome. Meanwhile, Junior Soccer matches will be continuing to take a break until July 16.
Soup In The Park - Blackbutt
The Friends Of The Earth, Animals And Trees (FEAT) will be holding a free "Soup In The Park" get-together at Les Muller Park in Hart Street, Blackbutt at 11:00am this morning. They'll be offering free home-made soup, bread, teas and coffee - all you need to bring along is a chair and a mug. Saturday Rugby League - Kingaroy
Rugby league fans are in for a bit of a treat this weekend. The Kingaroy Red Ants will be hosting three matches today at their home grounds at T.J. O'Neill Oval in Youngman Street, and they promise to have something for everyone. At 1:30pm, they'll be hosting a Masters match between the Red Ants and Gayndah, which will see older players from both sides take to the field to see who's still the best of the rest. This will be followed at 2:40pm with an U18s clash between Whites and Blues. And then at 4:00pm, there'll be an A-Grade Round 10 match between the Red Ants and Gayndah. A bar and canteen will be operating at the grounds and - as always - spectators and supporters are very welcome.
South Burnett Woodcrafters - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Woodcrafters will be holding their regular Saturday morning meeting at their clubhouse, which is located behind the Kingaroy Visitor Information Centre in Haly Street from 8:00am to around mid-day today. Nanango Stamp Club Meeting
The Nanango Stamp Club will be holding its second Saturday monthly meeting at Nanango RSL in Henry Street, Nanango from 10:00am onwards this morning, followed by lunch for those who'd like to stay on for a bite afterwards. The club is the South Burnett's sole affiliated member of the Queensland Philatelic Council and promotes the hobby of stamp collecting in our region. It meets on the second Saturday morning of each month, and anyone interested in stamp collecting is very welcome to come along for a fun morning out with fellow collectors. More details? Nanango Dexter Show And Sale
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their fifth annual Nanango Dexter Show at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 7:00am to 5:00pm today and tomorrow. The event will include - amongst other things - the Dexter Cattle Show and sale. The cattle show is free to the public, and the Show Society's canteen will be operating too. Everyone is welcome! Saturday Lawn Bowls - Kingaroy and Yarraman
The Kingaroy Bowls Club in Youngman Street will be holding the first day of their weekend-long Men’s Open Age Fours Carnival today. This event offers teams a total of $5500 in prize monies and some of the district's best lawn bowlers will be competing for a chance at winning a slice of it. Spectators are very welcome! Meanwhile, the Yarraman Bowls Club will be holding a Mixed Gender Social Bowls afternoon today which will kick off at noon. A light lunch will be provided and the $8 green fees will help pay for the fruit and meat tray trophies on offer. Everyone is welcome!
Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
