South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Queensland Winter Craft Festival Opening - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery in Haly Street, Kingaroy (opposite the peanut silos) will be officially opening the Queensland Winter Craft Festival with a wine and cheese tasting between 6:00pm and 8:00pm tonight. For the next two months the Gallery will be showcasing a wide variety of locally produced crafts, and tonight guests will be able to view tapestry artwork created by the Tangled Threads Group; wonderful Alpaca wool creations and garments created by Kristen and Julia Jeffery and Myrie Cobby; and lapidary, gemstones, photographs and woodwork created by members of the South Burnett Gem and Fossicking Club. The official opening will be conducted by new KAT president Jenny Gemmell at 6:30pm. After tonight's opening, the exhibitions will remain on display from 10:00am to 4:00pm weekdays, and 10:00am to 2:00pm on weekends, through until July 2, when they'll be replaced by exhibitions of wearable art, paper toile and pottery from the ReFire Project. Kingaroy RSL Bingo
Bingo games will be running at Kingaroy RSL from 10:00am this morning (eyes down at 10:30am). There'll be four jackpots on offer, along with book games and raffles, and proceeds will go to help local good causes. Everyone is welcome. More details? Phone the RSL on (07) 4162-1755.
Kingaroy QCWA Meeting
The Kingaroy branch of the QCWA will be holding their regular second Friday of the month meeting at the QCWA Rooms in Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy (just next to Kingaroy RSL) from 9:30am to around 11:30am this morning. The day will kick off with coffee and chats - the meeting itself starts at 10:00am - and visitors and potential new members are always very welcome. More details? Cuppa And Chat Group - Kingaroy
The Cuppa and Chat Group will be holding its weekly meeting at The Biscuit Tin behind St Mary's Church at 15 Albert Street, Kingaroy from 10:00am to around 11:00am this afternoon. As the name suggests, members enjoy a cuppa and biscuits baked in the community kitchen, and simply chat about whatever interests them. More details? Friday at Five: Winter in the Grove - Kingaroy
South Burnett Women will be holding "Friday at Five - Winter in the Grove" at Kingsley Grove Estate's winery at 49 Stuart Valley Drive off the Bunya Highway south-west of Kingaroy from 5:00pm to 8:00pm this evening. For $22 a head, guests can enjoy wood-fired pizza, a wine ice cream dessert and a glass of wine, but a cash bar will be operating for further selections from the cellar door (at $4 per glass, or by the bottle). There'll also be a few surprises as well. To help plan the catering, though, tickets need to be pre-booked on Eventbrite by June 2, unless earlier sold out.
Art With Lyn - Nanango
Creative Connections at 8 George Street in Nanango will be hosting art classes with artist Lyn Felsman from 10:00am to 1:00pm today. Tuition fees are $15 per person - which includes morning tea - and participants should BYO art supplies and project. To book, phone Lyn on 0421-679-258.
Friday Night At The Shed - Nanango
The Shed in Little Drayton Street, Nanango (just next to the Scott Car Park) will be open from 7:30pm until late tonight for local musicians and anyone else who enjoys music to come along, bring their instruments and jam in a relaxed and informal setting (or just sit on the Shed's lounges, listen in and enjoy the wide variety of talent on offer). Blue Light Disco - Yarraman
A Blue Light Disco for under-18s will be held at the Yarraman Memorial Hall in Browne Street in Yarraman from 5:00pm to 9:00om tonight. Children under 5 need to be accompanied by an adult and there's a $5 entry fee. For Timbertowners, a bus will depart from Blackbutt's Les Muller Park at 4:45pm and return about 9:15pm, and all children need to be collected by an adult.
Friday Afternoon Scroungers - Nanango
The Nanango Bowls Club in Henry Street will be holding their regular Friday Afternoon Scroungers matches at 4:00pm today. A $5 match fee applies and new players are very welcome. More details from the club: (07) 4163-3363.
Whitsunday PCYC Fundraiser Day - Murgon
The Murgon branch of the Commonwealth Bank will be holding a fundraising day today to help the Whitsunday PCYC, which was devastated by Cyclone Debbie earlier this year.The PCYC Whitsunday suffered huge loss and are currently struggling to provide much needed services to their local Airlie Beach, Cannonvale and Proserpine communities. In a similar fashion to the South Burnett PCYC, the Whitsunday PCYC provided after school care for 70 children in the area and additional services including youth mentoring and leadership, youth gymnastics and sports and an over 55’s programme. All proceeds of today's activities will be donated to help them get back on their feet.
P&F Engagement Afternoon - Kingaroy
St Mary's Catholic College in Kent Street, Kingaroy will be holding a P&F Engagement Afternoon from 3:30pm until dusk today outside the school's music centre. The get-together will give parents and friends the chance to chat in a social environment. Just BYO nibbles, drinks, chairs or a picnic blanket - pizza will be provided for dinner.
Wesleyan Food Hampers - Nanango
Wesleyan Grace Community Food Hampers will be available at 36 Fitzroy Street, Nanango from 9:00am to 12:00 noon today. Food hampers will be available for $20.
South Burnett Pantry - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items).
