South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Nanango Show
The main public day of the 108th Annual Nanango Show will get underway at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street, Nanango at 6:00am this morning when the gates open and stud cattle and horse judging begins. There'll be all the usual show fun including chainsawing (11:00am); the official opening (2:00pm); trotting (2:30pm); woodchopping (3:00pm); a rodeo (4:00pm to 6:00pm); wrestling (5:00pm, 7:00pm and 8:45pm); Glen Albrecht (6:00pm); an auction (7:30pm); the Ring Of Fire horse spectacular (8:00pm); fireworks (8:30pm); and a Dirt Bike Derby (9:00pm). Other features of this year's Show to look out for include a big Sideshow Alley, lots of great amusement rides, a Snake Show, pig racing, blacksmith farrier hot shoeing, a baby animal farm, ring events, harness racing, snaffle bit cutting, pavillion displays, and free face painting for children. Admission is $12 for adults and $6 for pension card holders and children over 14. Children under 14 accompanied by a paying adult are admitted free, otherwise they're $6 too. Autism In The Park - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Autism Support Group, which provides support for parents and carers of autistic children, will be holding Autism In The Park at Memorial Park in Haly Street, Kingaroy from 10:00am to 2:00pm today to raise awareness about autism. Guests at this family-oriented event can get to enjoy a free sausage sizzle, $1 drinks, a free jumping castle, free face painting, balloons, and free fun visual, audio and sensory activities. TC Golf And Bowls Day - Wondai
The Wondai Country Club on the Bunya Highway north of Wondai's CBD will be holding their final TC Golf And Bowls Day from 11:30am this morning. This annual event, which combines golf and bowls, has been running for several years but is being wound up in 2017. Golf will take the form of a four person ambrose, bowls teams will be picked on the day, and a BBQ lunch and dinner will be available for a small cost. Wooroolin Community Markets
The Wooroolin Community Markets will be held inside the Wooroolin QCWA Rooms on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin from 6:00am until around 12:00 noon this morning. The markets offer stalls, a sausage sizzle, fresh produce, plants and crafts and are run on the 2nd Saturday of every month except January. Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today (ie opposite Bendigo Bank). The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held on the second Saturday of every month. Cooranga North Campdraft
Cooranga North - a three building hamlet located on the Kingaroy-Jandowae Road south of Kumbia (turn off from the Bunya Highway) - will be holding its annual Campdraft from early this morning until late this afternoon. Dress For Your Shape - Kingaroy
The QRRRWN Barambah Branch and Missulli Boutique in Haly Street, Kingaroy will be holding a fun afternoon of fashion, food and wine from 2:00pm today. Guests at this $15 per head event will get a sneak peek at the boutique's new A/W17 selection, with staff on hand to advise how to dress to maximise your figure's best assets. Tickets are strictly limited, and can be obtained in-store.
Printmaking Demonstration - Kingaroy
South Burnett artists Fran van Vegchel and Carmel Nott will be giving a demonstration of printmaking at the Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery in Haly Street, Kingaroy (opposite the peanut silos) between 10:00am and 1:00pm this morning as part of the Gallery's April Jumping Ant Arts exhibition. Fran and Carmel are both accomplished printmakers, and they'll be happy to share tips and tricks and answer questions while they work. Admission is free and everyone is very welcome.
RSPCA $50 Pet Weekend
The South Burnett RSPCA in Warren Truss Drive at Kingaroy Airport will be holding a $50 pet weekend from 10:00am to 5:00pm today (and also tomorrow). RSPCA shelters around Queensland are currently running at capacity and they need to find new homes for adult cats and dogs currently in care. All RSPCA pets have been thoroughly health checked and temperament tested before being offered up for adoption. They are all desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, worm and flea treated and are looking for a second chance at a happy and healthy life - and you can see what animals are currently in the Kingaroy pound right now by clicking here. Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event. More details? Send an email.
B Grade Cricket Grand Final - Murgon
The grand final of this year's South Burnett B-grade cricket competition will be played at the Murgon Sportsgrounds in Macalister Street, Murgon from 12:30pm onwards this afternoon. Murgon will battle it out with Cherbourg for season honours in what's certain to be a very good match. A canteen will be running on site, and spectators are very welcome.
Two Person Team Golf Challenge - Kingaroy
The first day of the two-day Wooroolin Business Houses Two Person Team Golf Challenge will be played at the Kingaroy Golf Club on the Bunya Highway south-west of town from 8:00am this morning. Today's competition will be a 4BBB Stroke for golfers, while non golfers can play a two person ambrose. Nanango Stamp Club Meeting
The Nanango Stamp Club will be holding its second Saturday of the month meeting at Nanango RSL in Henry Street, Nanango from 10:00am onwards this morning, followed by lunch for those who'd like to stay on for a bite afterwards. The club is the South Burnett's sole affiliated member of the Queensland Philatelic Council and promotes the hobby of stamp collecting in our region. It meets on the second Saturday morning of each month, and anyone interested in stamp collecting is very welcome to come along for a fun morning out with fellow collectors. More details?
