110th Annual Kingaroy Show
The first day of the two-day 2017 Kingaroy Show will be held at Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street from 6:00am this morning when the luncheon hall opens for breakfasts. This year's Show will feature a Truck Show; a Ute Show; vintage tractor and chainsaw displays; free Wagon Rides; a big display of caged birds from the Burnett Birdkeeper's Association; displays of chainsaw ripping and peanut butter making; woodchops; miniature horses; chainsaw sculpting; Tractor Pulls; and a lot more besides. There'll also be a jaw-dropping Sideshow Alley that's always the biggest in the region, and a Kingaroy Speedway meeting in the evening (see entry elsewhere on this page). The Show's official opening will occur in the main ring at 1:30pm - Opposition leader Tim Nicholls will do the honours this year - and this will be followed by the Grand Parade. There'll also be a Giant Fireworks Show around 7:00pm that will light up the night sky. Single day tickets to today's Show are $15 for adults and $10 for children aged 12-17 (under-12s can get in for free). There's also free parking available in the grounds. More info? Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and routinely attract 300 to 400 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? 85th Annual Kingaroy Eisteddfod
The sixth day of the 85th annual Kingaroy Eisteddfod will be held at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy today. The Eisteddfod will be judging Solos/Duos/Trios dance entries, which will continue daily until next Friday, May 12th. Spectators are very welcome.
Golden Spurs Campdraft - Proston
The first day of the ACA affiliated 2017 Golden Spurs Campdraft will be held at the Proston Showgrounds west of town on the Proston-Boondooma Road from early this morning until late this afternoon. South Burnett Speedway - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Speedway Club will be holding the final meeting of their 2016-2017 racing season at their track inside the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy this afternoon and evening. The focus of today's meeting will be the grand final of the TWA Allstars Series for Junior Sedans, but there'll also be Modified Sedans, Production Sedans, Wingless Sprints, Street Stocks and National 4s burning up the track. If you go to today's Kingaroy Show (see entry further above) admission to the Speedway is free. Otherwise admission is $25 for adults and $15 for concessions and students. Under 12s can get in for free if accompanied by an adult, and a canteen will be operating on site, too, with the first pedals hitting the metal at around 5:00pm. Saturday Soccer - Nanango and Kingaroy
The South Burnett's 2017 soccer season will hold its fourth round in Nanango and Kingaroy today. In Nanango, home team Panthers will play Barambah at the Burnett Street Soccer Fields, with 2nd Division hitting the park at 12:30pm, Women's Division at 2:00pm and 1st Division at 3:15pm. And in Kingaroy, joint home teams Gunners and Wests will play one another at Tom Alford Oval in Oliver Bond Street, with 2nd Division kicking off at 2:00pm, Women's Division at 3:30pm and 1st Division at 5:00pm. Admission to view the matches is free, and a canteen will be running at both venues. Spectators are very welcome! Meanwhile, the 2017 Junior Soccer competition will continue today at the junior soccer fields in Oliver Bond Street, with the first matches getting underway at 8:30am in all classes from U6s to U10/11s. Cadets and U12/13s will hit the park slightly earlier at 8:00am.
Strewth - Kingaroy
Popular entertainers Strewth will be performing at the Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street, Kingaroy from 7:30pm to 11:30pm this evening. Admission is free. More details? Phone the RSL on (07) 4162-1755
Relay For Life Garage Sale - Tingoora
A Relay For Life Garage Sale will be held at the Tingoora State School Chapel at Tingoora State School from 7:00am to 11:30am this morning - just perfect if you're looking for a bargain and want to help a good cause at the same time. Items up for sale include furniture, pictures, books, DVDs, homewares and lots more. Freshly baked biscuits will also be on sale and there'll be a Mothers Day Raffle, too. Everyone is welcome! Auskart Racing - Nanango
South Burnett Kart Hire on the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango's CBD will be hosting the Auskart Racing go kart series today and tomorrow. Spectators are welcome to come along and watch the action from 9:30am, but no karts will be available for hire until the event concludes around noon on Sunday. Food and drinks will be available at the canteen and EFTPOS will be available.
Saturday Rugby League - Cherbourg, Wondai and Kingaroy
After a break for the 47th Battalion competition in Rockhampton, senior rugby league will resume this week with games in Cherbourg, Wondai and Kingaroy. In Cherbourg, the Hornets will play Nanango's Stags with U6s/U8s at 9:30am; U10s at 10:30am; U12s at 11:30am; U14s at 12:30pm; and U16s at 1:30pm. At 2:30pm in the U18s competition, South Burnett will play Pittsworth; and then in A Grade, the Hornets will play the Stags. In Wondai, the Wolves will play Murgon's Mustangs with U6s at 9:00am; U8s at 9:45am; U10s at 10:30am; U12s at 11:30am and U14s at 12:30pm. In the U16s at 1:45pm, a combined Wondai/Murgon team will play Chinchilla before an A Grade clash between the Wolves and Mustangs at 3:00pm. Finally, in Kingaroy, the Red Ants will play the Central Burnett Brumbies in the junior competition, with U6s at 10:00am; U8s at 10:45am; U10s at 11:45am; U12s at 1:00pm; and U16s at 2:15pm. Canteens will be running at all venues and spectators are very welcome.
