Taabinga Rotary Bookarama - Kingaroy
Fancy a ripper read? The Taabinga Rotary Club will be holding their 7th annual Bookarama at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy from 9:00am this morning through until around 4:00pm this afternoon (and also tomorrow from 9:00am until 12:00 noon). There'll be thousands of great books on sale at bargain prices across all categories, along with a great Lucky Door prize, a raffle and a sausage sizzle if you get peckish while you browse the aisles. All Bookarama proceeds will go to aid Rotary's outstanding community work - both here in the South Burnett and internationally - and if you love books, this is something you really shouldn't miss. Wondai Woodworkers Association AGM
The Wondai Woodworkers Association will be holding their Annual General Meeting at their workshop next to the Wondai Visitor Information Centre on the Bunya Highway at Wondai at 9:00am this morning. All interested people are welcome to attend.
Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and routinely attract 320 to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
Bush Dance - Blackbutt
A Bush Dance featuring Bushland Boogie will be held at the Blackbutt Memorial Hall in Coulson Street, Blackbutt from 6:30pm until late this evening. Admission is $15 for adults or $5 for under-18s and everyone is welcome.
QCWA Car Boot Sale - Proston
The Proston QCWA will be holding a Car Boot Sale in the grounds of the QCWA Rooms in Rodney Street, Proston from 8:00am to around 12:00 noon this morning. Today's Boot Sale is a great way to dispose of odds and ends surplus to your requirements (or to find a bargain if you're a buyer) and stall fees are just $5. The QCWA ladies will also be serving up Devonshire Teas all morning, and Fathers Day raffle tickets will be on sale for $1 too (the raffle will be drawn later today). Everyone is welcome! Barambah Shed Men Meeting - Goomeri
The Barambah Shed Men will be holding their 29th meeting at Harvy Dascombe’s farm at 6571 Burnett Highway, via Goomeri from 4:30pm to around 8:00pm this evening. At today's meeting, Harvy will tell you a bit about his life, how he started collecting old cars (he has several beauties from the 1920s), then got into farming and later wound up owning a bus company. Then he'll be followed by second guest speaker Simon Rattray. Simon was born to Aussie parents amongst head hunters in Indonesia, has spent many years in various countries, is a trained psychiatric nurse but now works with an organisation called Open Doors - a fascinating story! The $15 admission fee includes a meal, dessert, soft drinks and tea/coffee (young blokes under 15 can come along for free) but an RSVP by Monday August 31 would be appreciated for catering purposes. St Joseph's School Fete - Murgon
St Joseph's School in Angel Avenue, Murgon will be holding their annual School Fete from 3:00pm to around 9:00pm today as a fundraiser for the school and parish. In addition to plenty of food and market stalls, there'll be performances by students from all grades from Prep through to Year 7, as well as fun entertainment for the whole family including amusement rides; celebrity dunking of teachers and police; a giant double-lane Big Drop slide and lots more, plus live entertainment. Last year around 350 people attended the Fete and this year organisers are hoping for even more. Everyone is welcome and it's always a great family fun night out! South Burnett Spring Hack Show - Nanango
The South Burnett Equestrian Group will be holding their Spring Hack Show at the South Burnett Western Performance Grounds in Racecourse Road, Nanango (just next to the Nanango Race Club) from 9:00am onwards today. In addition to many different classes for all levels, there'll also be garlands, trophies and bags of feed on offer, plus an on-site canteen. Any age rider can ride any height horse in today's Hack Show, and stallions are welcome in every class too. Participation is $2 a class plus $10 for day membership (to cover insurance), but spectators can get in for free. Everyone is welcome!
CPR Course - Kingaroy
RHealth will be holding a CPR course for community members at Kingaroy RSL's Anzac Room in Markwell Street, Kingaroy from 12:45pm until around 3:00pm this afternoon. The course will provide participants with the skills and knowledge they need to perform CPR on adults, children and infants, and training is being provided by Pulse Start Training Solutions (RTO 31869). The course cost is $100 per person and you can obtain more details and/or register by phoning Philippa at RHealth on 4638 1377 or by emailing her.
Cadet Unit Garage Sale - Nanango
A Giant Garage Sale will be held at 10 O'Callaghan Street in Nanango from 7:00am to around 12:00 noon today as a fundraiser for Nanango's 177 Australian Army Cadet Unit - those wonderful young people who turn out to support all our important military commemorations such as Anzac Day and Vietnam Veterans Day. In addition to lots of bargains in clothes, tools and bric-a-brac there'll also be a $2 sausage sizzle and $2 cold drinks available if you get hungry or thirsty while you're browsing. Spring In O'Neill Square - Kingaroy
A Spring In O'Neill Square morning will be held at Kingaroy's O'Neill Square at the corner of Haly and King Streets this morning. The event is a fundraiser for school chaplaincy programs and there'll be competitions running for decorated bikes, Lego constructions and decorated plates in Toddler (up to 5 years), Intermediate (5-9 years) and Senior (over 9 years) categories, with prizes for each category winner. Judging will occur at 11:30am.
Kingaroy Junior Motorcycle Speedway Club Race Day
The Kingaroy Junior Motorcycle Speedway Club will be holding their last Race Day for 2015 in the McDonalds Kingaroy Race Series today. Racing will be in Peewee, 125cc and 250cc classes at the club's track inside main ring at the Kingaroy Showgrounds (entry is via Avoca Street). Registrations and scrutineering will take place from 9:00am; a rider safety briefing and track inspection will be held at 10:30am; and racing will commence at 11:00am. The club is for young riders aged 4 to 16 and spectators are very welcome. You can read more about the club on our website.
Saturday Afternoon Judo - Murgon
The Murgon Judo Club will be holding its regular Saturday afternoon training session at the Salvation Army Hall in Macalister Street, Murgon today. 2015 Rugby League Grand Finals - Murgon
If you're a rugby league fan, the place to go today is the Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street, which will be the host venue for the South Burnett's 2015 Rugby League Grand Finals. Matches will get underway at 10:00am with the U12s Grand Final between Wondai and Cherbourg. This will be followed by the U14s clash between Kingaroy and Cherbourg at 11:15am, then the Girls 14s/16s matches at 12:45pm. At 1:45pm, the U16s Grand Final between Kingaroy and Cherbourg will be played out on the field, followed at 3:15pm with the U18s game between Nanango and Murgon. After this, the biggest match of all - between the Wondai Wolves and Kingaroy Red Ants - will kick off at 5:00pm to decide this year's A-Grade Grand Final winner. A canteen (and in the evening, a bar) will be operating at the grounds, and spectators and supporters are most welcome!
2015 South Burnett Soccer Grand Finals
The Grand Finals of the 2015 South Burnett Evolution Solar Football League competition will be played at Tom Alford Oval in Oliver Bond Street, Kingaroy today. At 2:00pm in 2nd Division, Wests will play Gunners to decide who has bragging rights on the ground that is the home of both teams; at 4:00pm in Women's Division, Nanango's Panthers will play Wests for premiership glory in 2015; and at 6:00pm in First Division, the Panthers will take on Gunners in the season's peak contest. A bar and canteen will be operating on the grounds, the games are certain to be the best soccer you'll see all season and spectators are very welcome. Meanwhile, Junior Soccer games will be played at the Kingaroy Soccer Fields in Oliver Bond Street, Kingaroy this morning.
Kilkivan Swimming Pool Re-Opens
The Kilkivan public swimming pool will re-open for the 2015-2016 swimming season today. Pools in Blackbutt, Yarraman and Wondai will open on September 19; Goomeri shortly afterwards; Murgon and Proston on October 12; and Kingaroy - which has been undergoing repairs - on October 24.
Down With Drought Dinner And Dance - Kumbia
BOOKED OUT: The Down With Drought Dinner and Dance will be held at the Kumbia Hall in Kumbia from 5:00pm until late tonight (dinner will be served at 6:00pm). This event - for Kumbia and district residents only - will feature a 2 course meal, live music by Brisbane's Rantan Bush Band, a licensed bar and lucky door prizes to the value of $1000. Note: This event was fully booked out on August 29.
