112th Annual Kingaroy Show

The first day of the two-day 2019 Kingaroy Show will be held at Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street from 8:00am until late tonight. In addition to the usual big range of horse, cattle and equestrian events, this year's Show will also feature V8 Modified Tractor Sled Pulls; Mini Trotters; a Ute Show; vintage tractor and chainsaw displays; a big display of caged birds from the Burnett Birdkeeper's Association; specialty food vans; and a lot more besides. There'll also be a jaw-dropping Sideshow Alley that's always the biggest in the region. The Show's official opening will occur in the main ring at 1:30pm and this will be followed by the Grand Parade at 1:45pm. There'll also be a Giant Fireworks Show around 7:00pm that will light up the night sky. Single day tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children aged 12-17 (under-12s can get in for free). Dance - Inverlaw Hall
A dance will be held at Inverlaw Hall on the Burrandowan Road (roughly 20km from Kingaroy) from 8:00pm until late this evening. Music will be supplied by Heart Beat and there'll be the usual great supper and novelties, along with a Lucky Door draw. Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and attract up to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at the old railway station building at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for its regular Saturday morning meeting today, kicking off with a cuppa at 9:00am. Natalie Fenton At The Palace - Nanango
Popular South Burnett entertainer Natalie Fenton will be performing at the Palace Hotel in Drayton Street, Nanango from 7:30pm until late tonight. 11th Annual Firies Charity Golf Day - Wondai
The Wondai Country Club off the Bunya Highway north of Wondai's CBD will be hosting their 11th annual Firies Charity Golf Day from 8:00am this morning (when the BBQ fires up - names in by 8:30am). This year's event will take the form of an 18-hole, two person ambrose and there'll be a shotgun start at 9:30am with trophies galore to be won, as well as raffles throughout the day offering great prizes. Wondai Parkrun
May the fourth be with you! The Wondai parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning but this week's event has a special theme ... Star Wars! Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join (especially Wookies, Jedi Knights and Storm Troopers!). Saturday Soccer - Wondai and Kingaroy
The fifth round of this season's soccer competition will be played in Kingaroy and Wondai today. In Wondai, the Barambah Bears will play Kingaroy's Gunners at the Wondai Soccer Grounds off the Bunya Highway just north of the Wondai Sportsgrounds, with the women's division kicking off at 1:30pm (the Men's Division match originally scheduled for 3:00pm today was played in Kingaroy last night). And in Kingaroy, home team Wests will play Nanango's formidable Panthers on the sacred ground of Tom Alford Oval in Oliver Bond Street, with the women's division playing at 3:30pm, followed by the men's division at 5:00pm (though this latter match may be delayed slightly). Canteens will be running at both venues and spectators are very welcome. Meanwhile, this year's junior soccer season will play its second round today, with all matches being played at the Wondai soccer fields from 8:00am to around 11:00am.
Saturday AFL - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Saints will be playing their first home game of the season today. The Saints will be taking on the Chinchilla Suns at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy at 2:30pm this afternoon in the fourth round of the Darling Downs Allied Pickfords Cup. The Saints have yet to score a win so will be understandably keen to turn their fortunes around in front of a home crowd, so it promises to be a good game. The women's team, meanwhile, will be playing the first round of their competition today, taking on the South Toowoomba Bombers at Toowoomba's Heritage Oval at 12:30pm. Canteens will be running at both venues and spectators are very welcome.
Kingaroy Bowls Club Bingo
The Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
Saturday Rugby League - Kingaroy and Cherbourg
There are no A Grade rugby league games scheduled for this weekend because of the senior 47th Battalion carnival being played on the Sunshine Coast. Locally, junior games will be played in Kingaroy and Cherbourg. The Kingaroy Red Ants will be playing at home at T.J. O'Neill Oval against Wondai: 8:30am Under 6s & Under 8s, 9:15am Under 7s & Under 9s (inc. Murgon), 10:45am Under 10s, 11:30am Under 12s, 12:30pm Under 11s and 1:30pm Under 14s. Murgon will play Cherbourg Jack O'Chin Oval in Cherbourg: 9:00am Under 6s & Under 8s, 10:00am Under 10s and 11:00am Under 12s. A TJRL Under 16s game between Murgon and Gatton will be played at noon. NB. Nanango juniors will be in action against Central Burnett in Gayndah on Sunday.
Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
