Ringsfield Film Society Movie Afternoon - Nanango
The Ringsfield Film Society will be screening a Sunday afternoon movie at their cinema - the old chapel in the grounds of Ringsfield House at 41-45 Alfred Street, Nanango - at 2:30pm today. This month's film is "Chariots Of Fire", a drama based on the true story of athletes Eric Liddle and Harold Abrahams who ran for British and Scottish gold respectively in the 1924 Paris Olympics despite great personal obstacles. The film parallels the preparations and struggles of the two men, the first a devout missionary who runs because he believes it glorifies God, the second a Jewish student at Cambridge determined to achieve fame and escape religious prejudice. Admission to the screening is free, and a pre-movie lunch will be available at the Ringsfield House Cafe (bookings are advisable). There'll also be an $8 Devonshire tea available at interval, too. More details? Phone Ringsfield House on (07) 4163-3345 or send them an email. You can also find out more about the Film Society on their Facebook page. Note: This movie afternoon was originally planned for July 24, but has been rescheduled.

There are no Tree Day activities planned in the South Burnett, but Toowoomba Regional Council and the Oakey Urban Landcare group will be holding a working bee at the eastern end of Arthur Shooter Park in Stanley Street, Oakey today. The aim of the working bee is to regenerate a section of creek bank and parkland to increase habitat for local native species and prevent erosion, and any South Burnett residents who'd like to get involved are welcome.
