South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Proston Christmas Carnival
The annual Proston Lions Christmas Carnival will be held in Blake Street, Proston from 5:00pm to 9:00pm this evening. Organisers say this year's Christmas Carnival will be bigger and better than ever with an array of amusement rides and food stalls, a ham wheel, raffles, and a variety of other Christmas goodies on offer. Children can get to enjoy a jumping castle, merry-go-round, train rides, clown entertainment, Viv's Animal Nursery and free gifts, courtesy of the Carnival's sponsors (the Proston Lions, Proston Men's Shed, Hivesvile Markets, Proston Retail Business Group, the South Burnett Regional Council and community members). There'll also be a whip-cracking display, a demonstration by the Proston Golden Spurs Line Dancers, live music and carol singing - and Santa will be putting in an appearance too. Several CBD stores will also be staying open tonight if you want to shop for Christmas gifts. Everyone is welcome!
Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and routinely attract 320 to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? PS: Because Christmas is only a few weeks away, Santa Claus will also be putting in an appearance at the markets today to determine who's been naughty and who's been nice.
Goomeri Christmas Carnival
The annual Goomeri Lions Club And Chamber of Commerce Christmas Carnival will be held in Dickinson Park in Goomeri from 5:00pm this afternoon until late tonight. As usual, this very popular family event will feature ham wheels, chocolate wheels, raffles and market stalls. There'll also be a BBQ, the famous Goomeri Lions Chip Van, live music and a licensed bar, along with a jumping castle and face painting to keep young children amused. Santa will also be putting in an appearance around 7:45pm to pose for photos with the little ones. Admission is 100% free.
Christmas Mural Unveiling - Blackbutt
Blackbutt will be unveiling its annual Christmas Mural - this year, executed by the students of Benarkin State School - at Les Muller Park in Hart Street, Blackbutt from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. This festive community get-together will feature live music, children's entertainment, a free sausage sizzle, and free poppers and ice cream for kids. Today's event is sponsored by the Blackbutt-Benarkin Lions Club and the South Burnett Regional Council, and everyone is welcome!
Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at the old railway station building at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for its regular Saturday morning meeting today, kicking off with a cuppa at 9:00am. Barambah Shed Men Meeting - Murgon
The Barambah Shed Men will be holding their 34th meeting at the Murgon Men's Shed (the former Murgon Railway Station) in Macalister Street, Murgon from 5:00pm to 8:00pm this evening. The meeting will get underway with a demonstration of old style blacksmithing using a forge by Robert Marshall, and he'll be followed by Bill Hogan, who'll talk about his 25 years in the insurance industry coping with floods, cyclones and other natural disasters. The cost of the meeting is $15 (which includes a meal, dessert, soft drinks, and tea/coffee), but young blokes under 15 can attend for free. To assist with planning the catering, though, an RSVP by Monday, November 28 would be greatly appreciated. Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
Maidenwell Christmas Tree
The Maidenwell QCWA will be kicking off Maidenwell's Yuletide celebrations today with the launch of the 51st annual Maidenwell Christmas Tree at Maidenwell Hall. Events will get underway with a BYO community BBQ at the Hall around 6:00pm with a great $2 sausage sizzle and a slim $5 entry fee. After this, children from Tanduringie State School will sing Christmas carols and dance for the crowd. This will be followed by a visit from Santa at around 7:30pm with presents for the children and their siblings, then community dancing and a shared supper until late (ladies, please bring a plate). Everyone is welcome! Note: This event is for Maidenwell and district residents only. It is not open to anyone outside the Maidenwell area. If you don't live in the immediate Maidenwell area you should attend your own town's Christmas carnival instead.
Cooyar Community Christmas Carnival
Cooyar's Community Christmas Carnival will be held in Memorial Park at Cooyar today.
Official Opening Of J.A. Gorton Oval - Maidenwell
The J. A. Gorton Memorial Oval - formerly the Maidenwell Sportsground - in the heart of Maidenwell will be officially opened at 3:00pm this afternoon. The oval has been extensively redeveloped over the last two years by members of the Maidenwell Community Group with assistance from Heritage Bank Nanango, Stanwell and the South Burnett Regional Council, and representatives from all four will be on hand along with members of the Gorton family, who donated the land for the oval. The opening will be preceded by an afternoon tea. Everyone is welcome!
Council Surplus Goods Auction - Nanango
The South Burnett Regional Council will be holding a Surplus Goods Auction at the Council Stores in Dalby Street, Nanango at 9:00am this morning (gates open at 7:30am). Items on offer include furniture, pavers, trailers, whipper snippers, mowers, chainsaws, cold room equipment, fencing materials, medical assistance items, office equipment, shelving, tools, pool equipment and lots more, and payment must be made by cash or cheque. South Burnett Peace Of Mind Disco - Kingaroy
South Burnett Peace Of Mind will be holding a disco for people suffering from a mental disorder at the Uniting Church Hall in Alford Street, Kingaroy (opposite Shoppingworld) from 6:30pm to around 10:00pm this evening. Admission - which includes supper - is $5 for adults, $7 for a family and children free, and soft drinks will be on sale too.
La Creme Dance Academy Concert - Nanango
SOLD OUT: The La Creme Dance Academy will be holding their annual end of year concert at the Nanango State High School hall at 54 Elk Street, Nanango from 6:30pm onwards this evening.
