Sample The South Burnett and Cherbourg Launch Dinner
South Burnett And Cherbourg On ShowThe Wondai Hotel and Cellar, Yurri Muntha Cafe, Clovely Estate, Barambah Wines and Moffatdale Ridge will be jointly hosting a "Sample The South Burnett & Cherbourg Dinner" at the Wondai Hotel from 7:30pm until late tonight to officially launch the 2014 South Burnett & Cherbourg On Show Long Weekend. The dinner will feature three courses prepared from fresh South Burnett foods, each expertly matched to a local wine, plus live entertainment. Tickets to the dinner are $88 per head (including wines) or $66 without wines, and can be obtained from the Wondai Regional Art Gallery or by phoning them on (07) 4168-5926. Art Exhibition Opening - Wondai
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery on the roundabout at Wondai will be opening their ninth monthly exhibition for 2014 with a wine and cheese tasting at 6:00pm tonight. This month the gallery will be hosting the annual South Burnett Regional Art Competition, which will award $4,800 in prizes to the region's best artists in the competition's Art, Photography, Sculpture and Ceramics sections. The exhibition is part of the South Burnett & Cherbourg On Show Long Weekend and will be opened by South Burnett Mayor Wayne Kratzmann. You can read more about the competition on our website. As usual, tonight's opening will also feature great hot and cold finger foods and punch, along with wine tastings from a South Burnett winery, live entertainment and lots of fun socialising. BP Dam Austackle Inland Family Fishing Classic
The Austackle Inland Family Fishing Classic will start taking registrations at Bjelke-Petersen Dam from 5:30pm onwards this evening for the annual, weekend-long fishing competition which will be held at the Dam from 6:00am tomorrow morning through until final weigh-ins around 1:00pm on Sunday afternoon. Disability Art Show Exhibition Opening - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Art Gallery in Haly Street, Kingaroy will be opening its annual Disability Art Show at 6:00pm this evening. The exhibition showcases work by people who currently struggle with - over have overcome - a disability of any sort, and the opening night will be accompanied by finger foods, wine, tea and coffee. This weekend the Gallery will also be showcsing the final days iof Jumping Ant Arts' "Life Matters" exhibition, which showcases works in a wide varierty of media by a dozen of the region's most talented artists - and you can read more about this on our website.
Maidenwell Folk Festival Jam Night
The second day of the Maidenwell Folk Festival will be held in and around the historic Maidenwell Hotel all day today, and late into the night. The festival is devoted to acoustic folk music - and while the main day of this five-day event will occur tomorrow, tonight usually packs out the pub with relaxed jam sessions and lots of good-spirited camraderie from the hundreds of campers and festival-goers who descend on Maidenwell every time the event is held. Manar Park King Of The Park Challenge - Boondooma
Manar Park will be running their third annual "King Of The Park Challenge" at their property in Boondooma today. This year there'll be two separate classes of racing happening simultaneously - one class for Winch & Tuff Trucks, and another for Aust 4 and Rock Crawlers - and tonight will be a meet and greet for contestants and visitors (the main racing days will occur tomorrow and Sunday). Jackpot Karaoke - Wondai
A Jackpot Karaoke Night with Love2Sing will be held at the Warana Hotel at 42 Mackenzie Street in Wondai from 7:30pm until late this evening. Nanango Readers & Writers Group Meeting
The Nanango Readers & Writers Group will be holding a meeting at the Country Focus building at 41 Drayton Street, Nanango (opposite Nanango Library) at 9:30am this morning. The NRWG is an informal discussion group for anyone interested in reading and/or writing any form of literature or drama, and it meets on the first and third Fridays of each month. South Burnett Pantry - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 11:00am to 1:00pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $35 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items).
