Hivesville Country Markets

The Hivesville Country Markets will be held at the Hivesville Sports Grounds from 7:00am to around 1:00pm today. These family friendly monthly markets are held on the 4th Sunday of every month and feature a variety of stalls including fresh local farm produce, plants, crafts and lots of food. There'll also be mini auctions running throughout the morning and there's plenty of free parking in the grounds. The Sound Of Music - Kingaroy

The South Burnett Musical Comedy Society's production of the all-time classic "The Sound Of Music" will be having its third performance at the Kingaroy Performing Arts Centre at the end of Markwell Street, Kingaroy at 2:00pm this afternoon, and it will be a "singalong" one (think: karaoke). The Sound Of Music began in 1959 as a stage musical composed by Rodgers and Hammerstein, and become internationally famous when it was converted into a movie in 1965 starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, winning five Academy Awards (including Best Picture and Best Director) and becoming the highest grossing film of all time for the next five years. Tickets to this afternoon's performance are $25 for adults, $20 for pensioners and students (under 4s are free) or $100 for a family of 2 adults and 3 children, and can be booked online. Two additional evening performances will be held next Friday and Saturday at 7:00pm, along with one more 2:00pm matinee performance next Sunday, August 4.

Queensland Winter Craft Festival - Kingaroy

The second (and final) month of the Queensland Winter Craft Festival will be running throughout July at the Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery in Haly Street, Kingaroy (opposite the peanut silos) from 9:00am to 1:00pm today. The Gallery is hosting exhibitions from the Tangled Threads Textile Art Group, the South Burnett Gem and Fossicking Club and silk artist Cecile Arndt this month, and it will also be running a number of art workshops covering everything from rug making and silk painting to pottery and creating bags from rags.
