South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community


Country Circus Road Show

The Country Circus Road Show will be performing at Blackbutt Memorial Hall in Bowman Road, Blackbutt at 7:00pm tonight. This travelling show features hilarious comedy, breath-taking circus acrobatics and live music from some of Queensland's best young entertainers, and features performances usually reserved for the streets of Edinburgh and the big tops of Cirque-du-Soleil. The Road Show is hosted by Queensland's brightest emerging comedy talent Kylan Ambrum and includes performances by BOOFF, Melon the Human, Winter Cyan, Abby Kelso and Latonya Wigginton, all backed by a banging soundtrack that will make you long for a simpler time and a spectacular lighting design. It is being brought to the region by Arts Queensland, the Federal Government's RISE Fund and the South Burnett Regional Council. Tickets are just $22 per head for adults and $16 for concessions or children, and they can be booked online. Unless sold out, some tickets may also be available at the door tonight.
Cooyar Show & Campdraft - Cooyar
The main puiblic day of this year's rescheduled 72nd Cooyar Show will be held at the Cooyar Showgrounds in Rangemore Road from early this morning through until late tonight. At 8:00am, the Show will get underway with Stud Beef Cattle judging and Young Paraders, followed by a Led Steers and Heifers competition and the opening of the pavilions. At 11:00am, judging for the Ute Muster will take place, followed at noon with roving entertainment. At 1:00pm, the sideshows will open along with free face painting and show bags, and this will be followed by the Grand Parade at 2:30pm; the official opening at 2:45pm; and then post-ripping in the afternoon and a Young Farmers Challenge. Meanwhile, the second (and final) day of the Cooyar Campdraft will be running in the main arena, and after it concludes it will be followed by a pulse-pounding PBR Bull Ride, and then a Giant Fireworks Display at around 8:30pm. After this, Mick Lindsay & Band will perform until the early hours. Admission to this year's Show is $20 for adults, $5 for youngsters aged 12 to 15 and free for under-12s.
Wondai Country Markets & Hospital Auxiliary Fete
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery's popular monthly Wondai Country Markets will be operating at Coronation Park in Wondai's CBD from 7:00am to 12:00 noon today. Today's markets will feature stallholders selling fresh fruit and vegetables, arts and crafts, useful knick-knacks and clothing. There'll also be live entertainment; lots and lots of other stalls selling great gifts and goodies; and special hand-made treasures from local artisans available from the Gallery's "Studio" building just a short stroll across the park. The BBQs will also be firing up from 6:45am to dish out hearty breakfasts for early bargain hunters. Kingaroy Men's Shed Open Day
The Kingaroy Men’s Shed will be holding an Open Day at their sheds in Geoff Ralph Drive at Kingaroy Airport from 8:30am to noon this morning. The Men's Shed will be running tours of their premises and will have some useful and practical hand-crafted items available for purchase as well. Potential new members are very welcome to come along for a chat to discover what the Men's Shed is all about, and there'll also be a sausage sizzle running if you get hungry. Everyone is welcome!
Proston Men's Shed Sausage Sizzle
The Proston Men's Shed will be holding a Saturday morning Sausage Sizzle and a Garage Sale at their workshop buildings at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston today, kicking off with a cuppa at 8:00am and continuing on until noon. Everyone is welcome. More details? Phone Geoff on 0439-694-000.
Nanango Mini Market
The Nanango Mini Market, which runs on the 4th Saturday of each month (except January) outside the Churchyard Opp Shop at the corner of Drayton and Burnett Streets in Nanango, will be running from 7:00am to around noon this morning. Apart from offering great bargains at great prices - ranging from plants to craft work, DVDs, bric-a-brac, glassware, books, jewellery, photographic work and mosaic art - the markets also have a $2 sausage sizzle, $1.20 soft drinks ($2 for a coke) and gold coin donation tea and coffee if you get peckish. South Burnett Jazz Instrumental Workshop - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Community Orchestra is hosting a Jazz Instrumental Workshop at the Uniting Church Hall at the corner of Youngman and Alford Streets, Kingaroy from 9:00am to 3:00pm today. Musical Director Jo Kennedy will be joined by guest tutors and conductors Rohan Hardy and Jeff Jarrott to lead the workshop, and spectators are very welcome to come along and listen at no charge.
Railway Parkrun
The Proston parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the former railway line and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event.
Barambah Shed Men - Mondure
All men and young blokes have been invited to the 47th meeting of the Barambah Shed Men, which will be held this afternoon at John Allen's shed at 482 Flats Road in Mondure. Guest speakers are John - who was a farmer in the Glasshouse area before moving to Byee, then Mondure - and Les Penrose, a chaplain at the Proston, Nanango and Kilkivan schools. Everything will get under way at 4:30pm and the $15 cost includes a meal, dessert, soft drinks and tea/coffee (under 15s are free). Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.

The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed runs at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 8:00am until around 1:00pm today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held weekly. Pig On A Spit Night - Maidenwell
Historic Maidenwell Hotel will be holding its monthly Pig On A Spit afternoon and evening from 2:00pm until late tonight (live music starts at 2:00pm and dinner is served from 6:00pm to 8:00pm). Apart from live entertainment and lots of cold beer, there'll also be more pork than you can poke a fork at, all served up with with roast potatoes, pumpkin, corn, peas, carrots, applesauce and gravy! Saturday Rugby League - Nanango
The South Burnett's rugby league competition will return to schedule today, with all games played at Stags Oval on the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango's CBD. Junior games for U8s, U10s and U12s will be played from 8:00am until 3:00pm when there'll be an U14s match between Nanango and Murgon to kick the action up a notch. This will be followed, in turn, by the first of the day's A-Grade games between the Nanango Stags and Murgon Mustangs at 4:00pm, and then by a second A-grade clash between Kingaroy's Red Ants and the Wondai Wolves at 5:30pm. A canteen will be running all day and the bar will open when the A-grade games get underway. Everyone is welcome!
Saturday Rugby Union - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Thrashers rugby union team - who are so far undefeated in this year's Darling Downs Rugby Union competition - will be playing their first home game of the season at St Mary's Catholic College Oval next to Kingaroy Hospital at 12:15pm today (the oval's entrance is in Albert Street). The Thrashers will be taking on Dalby, and the game has been moved from T.J. O'Neill Oval (where it was originally scheduled) to St Mary's due to recent wet weather. Spectators are very welcome to come and cheer our local boys on to victory and there's no admission.
Biggest Morning Tea - Kingaroy
A Biggest Morning Tea will be held at the South Burnett Enterprise Centre at 6 Cornish Street, Kingaroy from 9:30am to around 11:30am this morning as a fundraiser for the Queensland Cancer Council. There'll be a Lucky Door, games, prizes and raffles and everyone is welcome!
Barambah Bush Big Day Out - Moffatdale
POSTPONED The Barambah Bush Caravan and Camping Park at 332 Borcherts Hill Road (off Barambah Road) at Moffatdale will be holding a Big Day Out from 11:00am to 6:00pm today. The event will feature local craft and market stalls, food vans, local winery tastings and sales from some of Moffatdale's leading wineries, Pat's Sip & Paint workshops, classic cars, live music and more. Admission is by gold coin donation - which will be given to the Graham House Community Centre in Murgon to help their community assistance programs - and campsites can be booked by phoning (07) 4168-1085 if you want to stay over.
