South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Dinner With The Captains - Kingaroy
The 2018 Dinner With The Captains - a major annual fundraiser for the South Burnett's Relay For Life effort - will be held at Kingaroy Town Hall from 5:30pm this evening (for a 6:00pm start). This year's semi-formal dress dinner has been sponsored by the Tarong Power Stations, Stanwell Corporation, Downer EDI, TAFE South West and the Telstra Store Kingaroy, and this year's special guests will be Australian sporting legends Greg Ritchie, Michael Hancock and Jessica Watson. There'll also be an auction of great sporting memorabilia during the evening, along with a big silent auction. Tickets for this licensed semi-formal event - which includes a gourmet three-course dinner - are $95 per head or $950 per table of 10. They can be booked by phoning 4169-0700. A free courtesy bus will also be running from Murgon.
Wondai Country Markets
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery's popular monthly Wondai Country Markets will be operating at Coronation Park in Wondai's CBD from 7:00am to 12:00 noon today. Today's markets will feature stallholders selling fresh fruit and vegetables, arts and crafts, useful knick-knacks and clothing. There'll also be live entertainment; lots and lots of other stalls selling great gifts and goodies; and special hand-made treasures from local artisans available from the Gallery's new "Studio" building just a short stroll across the park. The BBQs will also be firing up from 6:45am to dish out hearty breakfasts for early bargain hunters. The Sound Of Music - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Musical Comedy Society's production of the all-time classic "The Sound Of Music" will be having its second performance at the Kingaroy Performing Arts Centre at the end of Markwell Street, Kingaroy at 2:00pm this afternoon. The Sound Of Music began in 1959 as a stage musical composed by Rodgers and Hammerstein, and become internationally famous when it was converted into a movie in 1965 starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, winning five Academy Awards (including Best Picture and Best Director) and becoming the highest grossing film of all time for the next five years. Tickets to today's performance are $25 for adults, $20 for pensioners and students (under 4s are free) or $100 for a family of 2 adults and 3 children, and can be booked online. Two additional evening performances will be held next Friday and Saturday at 7:00pm, along with two more 2:00pm matinee performances tomorrow and next Sunday, August 4.
Nanango Mini Market
The Nanango Mini Market, which runs on the 4th Saturday of each month (except January) outside the Churchyard Opp Shop at the corner of Drayton and Burnett Streets in Nanango, will be running from 7:00am to around noon this morning. Apart from offering great bargains at great prices, the markets also have a $2 sausage sizzle, $1 soft drinks and gold coin donation tea and coffee if you get peckish. Kingaroy Bowls Club Bingo

Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at the old railway station building at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for its regular Saturday morning meeting today, kicking off with a cuppa at 9:00am. Christmas In July Dinner - Kumbia
The Kumbia Tennis Association will be holding a Christmas In July Dinner at Kumbia Hall in Bell Street, Kumbia from 6:30pm (for a 7:00pm start) as a fundraiser. For just $30 per head for adults and high school students and $15 per head for primary school students (under 5s are free), guests can enjoy a great Christmas dinner prepared by Judy and her team from JC Catering, along with a licensed bar and multi-draw raffles. The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Saturday Soccer - Wondai and Kingaroy
The 15th round of the South Burnett's local soccer competition will be played in Wondai and Kingaroy this afternoon. Today's matches are the last for the season before it moves into a month of finals in August, so competition will be fierce. In Wondai, home team Barambah will play Kingaroy's Wests at the Wondai Soccer Fierlds north of the Wondai Sportsgrounds, with the women's division kicking off at 1:40pm, followed by the men's division clash at 3:00pm. And in Kingaroy, home team Gunners and Nanangoi's Panthers will play one another at Tom Alford Oval in Oliver Bond Street, with the women's division coming on to the park at 3:15pm, followed by the men's division at 5:00pm. Canteens will be running at both venues and spectators are very welcome.
Saturday Rugby League - Murgon and Kingaroy
After the excitement of last weekend's Intrust Super Cup, league fans should head to Murgon or Kingaroy today. In Murgon, the Mustangs will play the Wondai Wolves in A-grade at the Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street at 1:00pm and this will be followed by three over-35s games between Kilkivan and Goomeri, Kilkivan and Murgon and Goomeri and Murgon at 2:35pm, 3:10pm and 3:45pm that promise to be a lot of fun. In Kingaroy, meanwhile, the Cherbourg Hornets will play Kingaroy's Red Ants at 3:30pm. Both A-grade games will be preceded by junior matches in the morning. In Murgon, they'll be between Kingaroy and Nanango juniors; and in Kingaroy, they'll be between Murgon and Wondai juniors. Canteens will be running at both venues and spectators are always welcome.
Queensland Winter Craft Festival - Kingaroy
The second (and final) month of the Queensland Winter Craft Festival will be running throughout July at the Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery in Haly Street, Kingaroy (opposite the peanut silos) from 9:00am to 1:00pm today. The Gallery is hosting exhibitions from the Tangled Threads Textile Art Group, the South Burnett Gem and Fossicking Club and silk artist Cecile Arndt this month, and it will also be running a number of art workshops covering everything from rug making and silk painting to pottery and creating bags from rags. Ride For Relay Multi-Draw Raffle - Kingaroy
The Ride For Relay team will be holding a giant multi-draw raffle as part of their 2019 fundraising tickets, and they'll bed selling tickets at Kingaroy Shoppingworld today (and also on Saturday, August 17, as well as during their 5-day ride in October). There are 19 great prizes on offer ranging from $50 to $300 in value - all donated by sponsors - and winners will be announced at this year's Relay.

There'll be live entertainment and lots of cold beer, along with more pork than you can poke a fork at, all served up with with roast potatoes, pumpkin, corn, peas, carrots, applesauce and gravy for $17 per plate!
