South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Burrumbuttock Golf & Bowls Day - Murgon
A Burrumbuttock Golf & Bowls Day will be held at the Murgon Golf Club on the Bunya Highway south of town (if you're a golfer) and the Murgon Bowls Club in Macalister Street (if you're a bowler) all day today to help raise funds for another Burrumbuttock Hay Run to take hay to drought-stricken farmers in western Queensland next month. Both events will be offering lunches at noon, raffles and an auction in the afternoon, then dinner at 6:00pm followed by live entertainment at the golf club. Green fees for either golf or bowls are $15, which includes a game of golf or bowls plus a burger, but to plan the catering names need to be in by Wednesday, February 24 (phone Paul on 0419-720-310 to book your place). In late afternoon, popular local performers Amber Goldsmith and Amanda Faulkkner will be taking to the stage at the Murgon Golf Club from 4:30pm to 6:30pm; and the Golf Club will be firing up the BBQ and offering $5 burgers for dinner from 6:00pm. After this, local band Deal'n will be providing more great entertainment from 7:30pm until late. Burrumbuttock Hay Runner Brendan 'Bumpa' Farrell will also be putting in an appearance at today's event, and a free bus will be leaving the Golden Spurs Hotel in Blake Street, Proston at 11:00am. Queen Of Hearts Morning Tea - Proston
The Proston Show Society will be hosting a "Queen Of Hearts Morning Tea" at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston this morning as a curtain-raiser for the up-coming Proston Show on March 4-5. Today's gold coin donation morning tea will kick off at 9:00am, and all guests are encouraged to create and wear a Queen Of Hearts-themed mask or headwear. There'll be two prizes for the best masks (one for children under 14, another for anyone over 14) and a third prize for the best headwear. Everyone is welcome!
Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
Bush Poet's Dinner - Kumbia
Here's something different! If you're a fan of bush poetry, then get along to the Kumbia Progress Association's biannual Bush Poetry Dinner, which will be held at the Kumbia Sportsground Lunch Room from 6:00pm to around 9:00pm tonight (entry to the Showgrounds can be made via the Kumbia-Brooklands Road or from Bell Street). Invited, renowned bush poets will keep you in stitches and there will be a delicious two course dinner lovingly prepared by the KPA's cooks (BYO beer or wine). It's A Bit Of This and A Bit Of That - Wondai
Here's something different! The Hivesville QCWA will be presenting "It's a Bit of This and a Bit of That" at the Wondai Digger's Club in Mackenzie Street, Wondai from 12:30pm today (the event itself gets underway at 1:00pm). Award winning country music singer Robert Early will compere the event and entertain throughout the afternoon. Special guest speaker Glen White from Chinchilli Pty. Ltd. who grows, processes and markets chilli sauces, jams and salt will give an informed talk about the trials and tribulations of starting such a venture. There will also be a silent auction (so bring your money to bid) and a fashion parade with clothes from Target Murgon. And if that wasn't enough, there'll also be a raffle; a sales table of pre-loved items; and a great afternoon tea to boot. Admission is just $5 and everyone is welcome. More details? Great Summer Art Sale Auction - Kingaroy
Looking for some great art at a bargain price? The Kingaroy Art Gallery in Haly Street, Kingaroy (just opposite the peanut silos) will be auctioning off any unsold works from their Great Summer Art Sale at 1:00pm today. The Summer Sale opened with 140 works from 36 well-known South Burnett artists, and has been running at the Gallery all February. Any works that remain unsold will be going under the hammer today (though bidders should note that some items will have reserves).
Signal Flares BBQ For The Homeless - Cherbourg
A Signal Flares BBQ For The Homeless and People In Need will be held at Hegarty Park in Cherbourg from 10:00am1:00pm today. There'll be free food, clothes, toiletries and more for the homeless or those doing it tough.
CROW-FM Open Day - Wondai
Have you ever wondered how a radio station works? Ever wondered what a radio control panel looks like? Then wonder no more! Community radio station CROW-FM 90.7 will be holding an Open Day at their studio on the roundabout at Wondai from 7:00am to 10:00am this morning, and everyone is welcome to come along, inspect the building and facilities, meet CROW-FM's staff and then chow down on a breakfast sausage sizzle cooked by well-known breakfast announcer Chris "Corky" Corcoran, ably assisted by afternoon presenter Shaz Birkett. NRL Education Weekend
An NRL Education Weekend for the region's coaches, referees, first aid officers (level 1) and club committee members that they need to complete to get fully accredited will be held in the South Burnett today. This will be the only education weekend held in the region this year, and to get involved you need to register online.
Neighbours Garage Sale - Wondai
Love garage sales? A Neighbours Garage Sale will be held at 52 Kent Street in Wondai from 7:00am to around 2:00pm today (just head towards the Wondai race course and turn right - there's plenty of parking). There'll be many items up for grabs at bargain prices in this combined sale including clothes, kitchen equipment, electronics, baby gear, tools, toys, plants and more - but the best items will probably go early, so best not sleep in! Wondai Country Markets
Gosh! It's just all go in Wondai today! The Wondai Regional Art Gallery's popular monthly Wondai Country Markets will be operating at Coronation Park in Wondai's CBD from 7:00am to 12:00 noon today. Today's markets will feature stallholders selling fresh fruit and vegetables, arts and crafts, useful knick-knacks and clothing. There'll also be live entertainment; lots and lots of other stalls selling great gifts and goodies; and special hand-made treasures from local artisans available from the Gallery's "Studio" building just a short stroll across the park. The Wondai Kindergarten's BBQs will also be firing up from 6:45am to dish out hearty breakfasts to early bargain hunters. New stallholders are always very welcome (stall fees range from $10 with power and water available, if needed) and you can obtain more details by phoning the Gallery on (07) 4168-5926 or by emailing them.
South Burnett Soccer Sevens - Kingaroy
The 34th annual Evolution Solar South Burnett Soccer Sevens will be held at the Kingaroy Soccer Grounds in Oliver Bond Street, Kingaroy all this weekend. This giant pre-season carnival - run by the South Burnett Senior Soccer Association - attracts teams from all over south-east Queensland and is one of the region's major annual sporting events. This year organisers expect there'll be upwards of 44 mens and womens teams competing for more than $2,000 in prize monies and locals are also very welcome to form a team and join in! Today's games will get underway at around 10:00am and will run to about 5:00pm. Admission to the Soccer Sevens is 100% free for spectators and there'll be a licensed bar, BBQ, coffee van and canteen operating at the grounds too. Cooyar Campdraft
A one-day campdraft will be held at the Cooyar Showgrounds just west of Cooyar from early this morning until late this afternoon. About 300 riders have registered for this year's event and you can expect to see a lot of great campdrafting action. Admission is 100% free for spectators.
