2015 Wondai Spring Garden Expo
The Wondai Garden Expo Committee will be holding the first day of their weekend-long 2015 Wondai Spring Garden Expo at the Wondai Sports Grounds off the Bunya Highway in Wondai from 8:00am to 4:30pm today (the Expo will also be running at the Sports Grounds from 8:00am to 1:00pm tomorrow). As is always the case with these very popular Garden Expos, keen gardeners will be able to enjoy a very wide display of plants, pots, fertilizers, outdoor products and much more from over 100 exhibitors in what's quite possibly the largest gardening display of its kind in south-east Queensland. There'll also be expert guest speakers; live entertainment in the grounds; a Horticultural Show and display; and lots of food and refreshment stands too. In addition, there'll be a Spring Garden Competition with lots of gardens free to visit; lucky spot prizes all weekend; and a major multi-draw raffle as well as the Official Opening at 11:00am by a special guest. Entry fees are just $5.00 per person and young people under 15 who are accompanied by an adult are free. There's also plenty of free parking nearby. More details? Phone Helen on (07) 4168-9297 or email her. You can also get additional information on Wondai Garden Expo's website.
Agatha Christie's Verdict (Final) - Nanango
The Nanango Theatre Company will be presenting the fourth (and final) perfomance of Agatha Christie's 1958 murder mystery "Verdict" at the Nanango Playhouse at the corner of Elk and George Streets in Nanango at 7:00pm tonight (play begins at 7:30pm). The NTC's latest production tells the story of Karl Hendryk, a brilliant professor who has fled persecution in his country with his wife and her cousin. He is safely ensconced in a British university where he is respected by students and faculty alike. But his wife Anya, an invalid suffering from a progressively debilitating disease, bitterly regrets having been forced to leave her home and her friends and is unhappy with all aspects of her life in England. Her cousin, Lisa Koletzky, has moved with them to care for Anya and to manage the professor's home. Karl and Lisa have suppressed feelings for each other, and the situation is further disturbed when a rich young student, Helen Rollander, begins taking private lessons with the professor. Tickets - which include supper at intermission - are $20 for adults and $15 for pensioners or students. They can be purchased in advance from the Nanango Visitor Information Centre in Henry Street, Nanango, or at the door before each performance, if not sold out.
RACQ Careflight Enduro Challenge - Manar Park
Manar Park at Boondooma will be holding its 2015 RACQ Careflight Enduro Challenge today (and also tomorrow morning) as a fundraiser for RACQ Careflight, who airlift injured patrons from the Park to hospitals all year round at a cost of between $10,000 and $12,000 per flight. Competitors in the Challenge will need to complete four different Enduro loops covering a distance of 135m which - this year - will be run in reverse order. Tonight there'll also be a gold coin donation big screen slide show of photos taken during the day along with a camp fire sausage sizzle (BYO drinks, chair or blanket and photos), with all proceeds donated to Careflight; and tomorrow morning there'll be a more relaxed Novice Loop Challenge for children, beginners and families. More details can be obtained on Manar Park's website.
Wondai Country Markets
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery's popular monthly Wondai Country Markets will be operating at Coronation Park in Wondai's CBD from 7:00am to 12:00 noon today. Today's markets will feature stallholders selling fresh fruit and vegetables, arts and crafts, useful knick-knacks and clothing. There'll also be live entertainment; lots and lots of other stalls selling great gifts and goodies; and special hand-made treasures from local artisans available from the Gallery's new "Studio" building just a short stroll across the park. The Wondai Kindergarten's BBQs will also be firing up from 6:45am to dish out hearty breakfasts to early bargain hunters. New stallholders are always very welcome (stall fees range from $10 with power and water available, if needed) and you can obtain more details by phoning the Gallery on (07) 4168-5926 or by emailing them
