Unveiling Of Charlotte The Emu Memorial Statue - Wondai
The Charlotte The Emu Memorial Committee will be officially unveiling sculptor Dan Davie's (pictured) solid steel tribute to Wondai's much-loved former town emu Charlotte at the Wondai Markets at 9:30am this morning. The unveiling will be held in Coronation Park across the road from Wondai's IGA Supermarket and will open with a performance of "Old Man Emu" by Wondai State School students. This will be followed by a short address by Mayor Waynme Kratzmann, and then Winston Burrows from the Wondai Town Band will tell how he rescued Charlotte's body after she was run down by a motorist and buried her near the Wondai Tennis Courts (a favourite haunt). After this, the statue will be unveiled while the Wondai CWA Choir sing their own upbeat version of "Old Man Emu". Everyone is welcome!
